The project had reached the later stages, and the press conference date had been tentatively set during the meeting.

As the project leader, I was asked to present the project at the press conference.

The day before the conference, Rolf handedthe data he had compiled, suggesting I review it in advance. Though I suspected something was off, I still accepted it. Sure enough, on the day of the press conference, the data on the flash drive suddenly disappeared.

Staring at the empty folder on the screen, I instantly understood what had happened. The press conference was about to begin, and reporters were waiting for me. If I didn't have the data, this event would turn into a massive embarrassment for the company.

I caught a glimpse of Jack, who quickly concealed his gloating expression and put on a concerned look. Instead of accusingdirectly, he turned to Rolf with a face full of anger. "What's wrong with you? How could you lose all the data? Why don't you just disappear instead?" I knew he was indirectly blaming me, but I didn't say anything. I just watched the two of them act.

Rolf looked panicked and waved his hands frantically. "No, it wasn't me! I gave the flash drive to Ms. Brown, and the data was there when I handed it over!" He added with a face full of grief and frustration, "I even told her how important the data was and reminded her to keep it safe!" Rolf pointed to the others around us, his voice frantic. "They can all vouch for me!" As soon as he finished speaking, Jack seemed to have found his target. He turned sharply to me. He snorted coldly. "I knew it. You're the one sabotaging things!" I shrugged, looking helpless. "I didn't do anything." Jack sneered, "You didn't do anything? How could the data just vanish if you didn't do something? There are so many reporters waiting outside. If you can't present anything, you'll ruin Brown Group's reputation!" A fleeting, almost imperceptible glint of satisfaction crossed his face. It seemed like he was already certain he could getout of Brown Group.

I glanced at him before turning to Rolf. "That data is very important, right?" Rolf looked confused but nodded instinctively. "Yes, the data is very important. If we lose that data, the project will have to be delayed." "Oh?" I sneered, moving closer to him. "If the data is so crucial, why isn't there a backup? If the data is so vital for the project's success, how could something like this happen?" Rolf was immediately speechless and stammered out a response, "T-The data might beccorrupted during the copying process, so..."

I couldn't help but smile. "I may not know much about IT, but do you m really think I'll believe that just copying the data can cause this issue? Do I look like someone who lacks common sense?"

Before Rolf could respond, Jack stepped forward with a stern expression. He said, "What's the point of discussing this now? Even if he doesn't have a Plan B, it just shows he isn't thorough enough. The company will take action accordingly. "But now, the data is gone, so what else is there to say? The data was lost under your watch!" I raised my head and looked at him quietly, then suddenly smiled. "So, what now?"

I took a step forward. Facing him, I smiled as I said, "Are you trying to I say that because i lost this crucial data, I don't deserve to stay in Brown Group?"
