Arthur seemed to be looking at the middle aged man, but in reality, he was gazing at the information window in front of him.

'He's actually from an uncommon class.' Arthur noted that the hall master was a guardian.

Guardian was an uncommon class that one could obtain from churches. It was a defense oriented class too and was meant to protect specific areas. Though it was mostly popular among NPCs of unique buildings.

Among the players, several took the class early on when it was discovered as there were no limitations to how many could actually take it. But once the players progressed they realized the limitation of the Guardian class.

It was a class that was suited to protecting buildings and settlements, but not as good for a party. They got passive boosts to stats when they were doing so, thus even the basic Shield bearers became a better option than them for the long run.

Plus the class upgrade for the Shield Bearer class was also rather good, thus players ended up preferring that in the end.

Still, it didn't mean the class was bad. The NPCs that had the guardian class were a pain to fight. Especially since several NPC bosses would have it too when they were defending an important location like a castle.

While Arthur was thinking all this, the middled aged man was also looking at him. His gaze lingered on Arthur for a few seconds before he spoke again.

"Are you here to buy skills then?" The man easily guessed.

"Yes… Hall master." Arthur replied.

"Oh? You can tell that too… Such a strong Appraisal skill." The man was impressed once more.

"Like you said, I had some luck," Arthur replied with a smile.

"Good. We always need strong adventurers." The hall master said before gesturing towards the very back. "Well, since you want skills, you can head to the skill section. The rest of the sections are for class change."

The class change hall was usually divided into 2 main sections. The first was the class change section which had multiple subsections depending on what classes were available.

And the second was the skill section where one could obtain skills from.

"Thank you for your guidance Hall master," Arthur responded to the man.

"You can just call me Rahel." The man said with a smile before leaving Arthur to himself.

'Not the strangest NPC I've met, but still strange.' Arthur said in his mind before walking to the skill section.

In there, he saw what was basically a wall of books. There were easily thousands of them and they were jam-packed tightly. Some were even lying around on the ground at the base of the shelf, as there was no space left.

These were none other than the skill books!

'There might be thousands, but most of them are just copies of the same few skills.' Arthur knew better than to get his hopes up.

Players would often get overwhelmed by the sheer number of books, and then find themselves getting disappointed by learning the reality. It was almost funny.

Veteran players would often bring newbies to get their skills for the first time, just to watch their reactions.

"Oh god… I just remembered the reaction trend from back then…" Arthur's face cringed for a moment before he shook out of it forcefully, trying to forget the thousands of videos that would flood various media sites.

"Hello!" And while Arthur was reliving some old trauma, a soft voice greeted him.

He turned around to see a short woman standing next to him. She was wearing a large pointy hat along with dark blue robes that reached the floor. Several books were held in her hands, while a wand hung from her waist.

She basically looked like a typical witch.

"Can I help you?" The woman asked in a soft airy voice. "I'm Emma, the one in charge here."

"Ah! I'm here to get some skill books." Arthur answered.

"Sure, what skills do you want?" she asked.

"Can I take a look first?" Arthur replied.

"Of course." Emma nodded her head. "But first, let me cast the permit magic." She added.

She drew her wand and waved it in the air, creating a few runes that then fell upon Arthur's head.

"There you go. Just tap the book and you'll know what skill is contained in it. You won't be able to take them out though, you can only do that once you have paid me." Emma instructed him first.

"I understand." Arthur nodded his head.

"Find me once you're done, then. I'll go place these." Emma said before taking her leave.

With her gone, Arthur was free to browse the skill books.

"Let's see… First, for some offensive skills." Arthur tapped on the books until he found the shelf that only seemed to contain offensive skills.

Skills in Morpheus Online were rather varied and had different restrictions.

Other than the skills that were class specific, most could be broadly used by similar classes as long as they used the same weapon types.

For example, a warrior and swordsman could both use skills that needed swords to activate while a warrior and shield bearer could use skills that needed spears.

The same applied to magic based classes.

A mage and priest could use both damage dealing spells as well as healing spells, though one would be more effective than the other.

This allowed the players to diversify their skill sets a lot. Even the players with the same class could be vastly different, depending on what skills they had specialized in.

Arthur already had a few skills in his mind, thus he quickly searched for them.

The first that he found was a simple spear skill.

——

<Rapid Thrust>

Info: The user thrusts his spear at the foe several times in rapid succession. The number of thrusts depends on the player's agility and dexterity.

Restriction: Spear users

Cooldown: 30 seconds

Cost: 5% Mana with every use.

——

It was one of the basic skills that every spear user had and was very useful.

If Skewer was a slow, high-damage skill, Rapid Thrust was a fast, low-damage skill. Both had their uses and it was up to the player to know when to activate them to their benefit.

The next skill that Arthur found was a wide area skill.

——

<Wide Sweep>

Info: The user swings his spear in an arc, damaging all foes that are in the spear's range. The skill's range increases with the user's proficiency.

Restriction: Spear users

It was another standard skill that one absolutely needed to have. The spear offered better range and this skill could further increase it. Of course, Arthur could do a similar action without using the skill, but it didn't use mana.

The use of mana in this case allowed the spear's power and range to be increased.

The third skill that Arthur got was a passive skill.

——

<Spear Arts>

Info: Improves the user's proficiency with spears.

Restriction: Spear users

Cooldown: None

Cost: none

——

The skill had very little information on its own, but it was absolutely necessary for any spear user.

It intrigued Arthur, as it was one of the many weapon skills of a similar type.

Just like Spear Arts, there were also Sword Arts, Axe Arts, Shield Arts, and more. Each of these skills was passive and improved the proficiency with the respective weapon type.

'The skill that allows one to adapt to a weapon…' Arthur remembered just how the effect of this passive was.

It was one of the most memorable experiences in the game.

Once one obtained this skill, they would feel as if they had been using spears for a long time. It could turn an absolute amateur into a veteran with a spear.

Passive skills of these types were crucial to the players, as most of them would obviously not know how to use weapons. This filled the gap that they had and made them comparable to experienced users.

Of course, it wouldn't turn one into a master right away. It would simply give them a natural familiarity with the weapon.

Even if Arthur had his past life experiences and memories, he still didn't have much idea about spears.

'I had started off as an Archer before I upgraded into a Ranger, thus I didn't really use spears much. Swords were still fine since I could use them as a spare from time to time.' Arthur remembered.

His instincts, which were honed in his past life would now be better applied through this passive skill.

With three skills picked out, Arthur now looked for other skills that might be uncommon or rare.

And while he was looking through them, he found something unexpected.

"Wait a second… There's actually a skill like this?" Arthur was truly surprised.
