Chapter 1298 Piling Up
"What did you tell her?" asked Raelle when Hyson came back to her side.
Hyson gave her a look, "I said her granddaughter is very annoying."
"Right. I agree. Wai is indeed annoying."
Hyson gaped at her in disbelief, "Ellie, I am talking about you. Don't pretend like you don't know."
Raelle shrugged.
After every one of them paid their respects, they were pulled back by Mu Chenyan. Because she knew it was time to leave Grandfather Xiang alone with his wife. He'd always liked to silently spend some time with his wife when they came here and she didn't want to disturb him at all.
She turned to others and said, "You all can leave the cemetery. Just look around."
Noticing her serious expression, no one said anything and turned to leave. Mu Chenyan looked for her brother and found that Xiang Hulin was paying respects to his grandparents right now. It had been so long since he was allowed inside this cemetery. Of course, he wanted to pay respect to each and every person lying here. After all, the cemetery was filled with Xiang's ancestors. "Aren't you leaving?" asked Mu Chenyan to Xia Zhao.
"Where am I going? I think I'm good here," he replied calmly. Even though she applied a cold towel to her eyes, she still found hide from his sharp eyes that she had cried earlier. He didn't tease her or even point it out. He just pretended like nothing happened. He knew it was wise to stay silent today. If it was any other time, he might be in the mood to tease her but not today. He'd never laugh at her for crying because she missed her godmother. That'd be very rude and hurtful too. And he always tried his best not to get her hurt. It was already a habit engraved in his bones.
Mu Chenyan just stood there looking at the lone figure of Grandfather Xiang sitting on his wheelchair in front of his wife's tombstone. She was all too familiar with this scene. She had been seeing it for years. And yet, she couldn't get over it. He still looked as lonely as he did the first year Grandmother Xiang died. She didn't see him as helpless the day he was told he might not be able to walk again as much as he did when his wife died. She remembered it all too well. There wasn't a single detail that she had forgotten over the years.

Xia Zhao looked at her and took some time before replying, "It feels like you've betrayed. Abandoned, perhaps. And of course, there is no doubt that the pain is immense and immeasurable."
"Then do you think it's worth it?" she asked. "To hold someone's hand when that person is eventually gonna leave you behind?"
"It's always worth it," replied Xia Zhao. "I have said it before, if love is worth it. Then the pain that comes along with it is always worth it too. Just because of fear, you can't deprive yourself of the happiness."
"I hate seeing him like this," told Mu Chenyan. "Whenever we come here, he becomes so vulnerable and weak that I am almost unable to recognize him."
"Love makes you vulnerable. Especially in front of the person you love. What's wrong with that?"
"Why do you talk like this?" asked Mu Chenyan.
"Like what?"
"Like you know everything," she replied.
"Maybe I do know everything."
"Oh, that's why it took you years to realize that you are in love with me?"
"At least, I figured it out before you. What about you? Until I didn't knock you off your feet, you didn't even have a clue about your feelings."
Mu Chenyan scratched the tip of her nose, "I don't know what you're talking about. Don't distract me."
"I'm distracting you? You brought it up," he reminded her.
"I don't care. It's still your fault."
Xia Zhao sighed to himself and nodded, "Yes, it's all my fault."
"It is, right?"
"Yes, it certainly is my fault for falling in love with an unreasonable woman."
"I am very reasonable!" she retorted as she glared at him.
"Oh? Why can't I see that?" he asked.
"You can ask anyone," she said.
"You are always unreasonable in front of me. Why should I believe what others say?"

Xia Zhao gave her a helpless look, "Again, it's all on me. Right?"
"Yes!" was her response in a very matter-of-factly manner.
Xia Zhao shook his head at her, "Okay, okay. I'll just take the blames. You keep piling them up on my head. It's not like it's anything new anyway."
"It certainly isn't anything new," said Mu Chenyan knowingly.
Seeing that Grandfather Xiang turned to leave, she walked to his side.
"I'll help you, Father!"
Gandfather Xiang paused and looked up at her, "How many times have I told you to not wait for me here? And you even pulled Zhao along with you this time?"
"I didn't ask him to wait with me," she replied. "He did it on his own."
Grandfather Xiang waved her off, "Okay, don't talk to me. Leave me alone. I know you want to talk to your Godmother. So, go away. Stop being an eye sore here." He turned his head to look at his son and beckoned him over, "You come here and help me out of here."
"Yes, Dad!" said Xiang Hulin and hurriedly came to help his father.
Mu Chenyan watched them leave and turned towards the tombstone saying, "Did you hear that? You husband just called me an eyesore? Can you believe that? Can you? Because I can't! Maybe it's because he has so many grandchildren around him now that he is bored of me. Look how pitiful I am without you here. How could you leave this pitiful me alone in this cruel world? You promised to protect me!"
