Arthur's goal for earning money in the short term was the use of the forums.
He knew there would be great greed among the people to reach higher levels in Morpheus Online. And that was exactly what he hoped to capitalize on. Level 5 was something that was something very few had reached so far.
As far as Arthur could remember, Level 3 was the average level as of day two of the game's launch. And even then Level 3 was barely enough for one to start going out to the deeper layers of the southern forests of the Newbie Village.
Even then, this was just the case in the Kestrel Village.
There were many other newbie villages all over the game's map. Kestrel was merely one of them and didn't even account for 1% of the players of the game. But the guide that Arthur had put up was something that everyone would be able to use regardless.
'The method is simple, almost an exploit but once the players get used to it, they'll suffer later on.' Arthur thought to himself.
The method that he had given the others, wasn't without con's either.
Sure it would get them stronger in the short term, but once they encountered stronger beasts, they would find themselves getting overwhelmed regardless. After all, in Morpheus Online, a player's stats weren't the only thing that mattered, their personal skills mattered too.
One needed to be able to read the opponent and their movement, in order to come out on top.
But Arthur was making them fall in this factor.
The method that Arthur had given them was to simply show them how the mob's worked and it was straightforward. With most of the starting mobs, they had a simple way of moving that was straight.
All the players needed to do was to work in pairs of two. When the mob charged towards one player, the second player would attack which would aggro the mob towards them. This would cause the mob to attack the second player.
This was when the first player would step in, pulling the aggro and repeating the cycle.
It was almost like playing ping-pong with the mob being the ball.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtWhile this method was simple and effective, it cause the side effect of making players used to it. If they didn't learn how to react and predict the mob attacks, they would have a hard time when they faced stronger mobs.
'Not learning is a great failure in Morpheus Online. The players wouldn't know until a few days later when they'll start getting overwhelmed.' Arthur almost chuckled thinking of it.
But that was not the end of it. If they players weren't able to overcome the stronger mobs with more complex attack patterns, they would end up dying. This would then cause them to lose experience.
If they lost enough experience, they could even fall in level.
This was an irresistible trap that Arthur had prepared.
It would allow him to gain some cash, while still making the players weaker later. This way, Arthur wouldn't lose the advantage he had with his higher levels either.
'The average levels of players will rise at the start, but once they start losing they'll fall again. It should avoid too many changes in the timeline hopefully.' Arthur knew that the AI of the game would change things according to the strength of the players.
There could be an N-number of changes that would happen without one knowing.
A single player could seldom affect this, but when a majority of players were getting stronger, it would certainly cause the AI to take notice and make appropriate changes. This would either be in the form of new areas that had stronger mobs, or quests that were difficult to complete.
"And once they start failing again, there will be another post waiting for them… this time a paid one." Glee could be seen on Arthur's face just by imagining the profits.
Done with the forum post, Arthur decided to pass the time by reading some more information. After all, even if he had researched a lot in his past life, there were bound to be things that he had missed out on.
Arthur read through the posts on the Forums, even if they seemed to be rather stupid and silly. To him, it wasn't just that content that mattered, it was also the poster.
'There should be some bigwigs or future bigwigs posting at this time maybe. If I can take note of them, I might be able to make some new contacts.' Arthur thought to himself.
Unfortunately for him, his search wasn't a great success.
He didn't know if it was due to the fact that it was the first day of launch and there was a great flurry of posts, or the fact that the true bigshots had simply refrained from posting anything, but he hadn't found anyone.
"Sigh~ Looks like I'll just have to look again later." Arthur closed the windows and logged out of the side.
The lid of the Dream Pod V3 opened up with a mechanical hum, allowing him to leave it.
"Haa~ This is so much better than my old pod." Arthur stretched his body, feeling rather comfortable.
He almost didn't want to leave the Dream Pod with how comfortable it felt. After all, he had been sleeping in a stiff bed with a shitty mattress. The Dream Pod V3 was leagues above it.
It was designed to be the optimal sleeping solution after all.
Plus it was even said that the longer one used it, the better it would get. The Operating System of the Dream Pod would actively scan and analyze the user's sleeping condition as well as their body vitals to provide the optimal environment for sleeping.
Even with how advanced the technology was, it still needed progressive analysis to reach the optimum level for every user. After all, the humans were simply too variable and needed unique condition for everyone.
Arthur looked out of the narrow window of his apartment and saw the streets getting a bit more lively.
'It's almost night time.' Arthur looked at the clock on his phone, seeing that it was about 7 PM.
"I should be able to log into Morpheus Online in 3 more hours." Arthur calculated.
Since he had an eight hour window for playing, the best time to do it was when he should be sleeping optimally. This was at 10 PM and he had a few hours to go till then.
'I'll have to suffer this routine, until they finally decide to extend the playtime later.' Arthur thought to himself.
He decided to take a walk around to refresh himself before returning in an hour.
~DING~
But when he did, he found the door of Boyd's Apartment opening.
"Huh?" Looking at the person coming out, Arthur recognized it to be the woman he had seen earlier.
"Ah, it's you." Cassandra spoke seeing Arthur standing there.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏm"And you're Cassandra, right?" Arthur remembered the name.
"Yes… you're right." The woman nodded her head.
Arthur felt a mix of curiosity and awkwardness at that moment. He debated on whether he should ask the question he had in his mind or not.
"Do you want to talk?" But much to his surprise, Cassandra was the one to speak.
"Umm… sure." Arthur still had some time to pass and decided to go ahead with it.
"Let's go sit at the benches outside." Cassandra suggested. "Boyd… Dad is rather pissed right now." She added.
"So he really is your father…" Arthur was still surprised by it.
The two went to a nearby public bench and sat down.
"I know you are a tenant of my father and that he's not a calm man. But I'll tell you that my father… isn't that bad." Cassandra spoke first.
"Huh?" Arthur felt confused by it.
As far as he could remember, Boyd had always been an ass. Though he didn't know why. He just reckoned that the man was one of those kinds of people.
"My Father was forced into his condition. What he is right now, is the doing of my grandpa." Cassandra revealed.
"What? Why?" Arthur felt confused for several reasons.
The first was Boyd, but the second was why the woman was telling him this out of all people.
"My father loved my mother… They were young and made some mistakes. Mom got pregnant and grandpa found out. He got Dad beaten up and threw him out. But he didn't do just that. He also took mom and moved away, while throwing some cash to Dad warning him to stay away." Cassandra revealed solving some of the doubts for Arthur.
"So that's how he got the money…" Arthur had been wondered just how did Boyd get enough to buy an apartment building like this.
Even if this was not the main area with the good living conditions, the cost for property was still quite high.
