Chapter 239
Clara was contemplating whether to text Elio when Emmett’s call came in first.
“What are you up to?”
“I’m in the office, nothing much.”
“Come down for a sec.”
Clara was puzzled, “Come down for what? You’re not back already, are you?” She rushed to the window and sure
enough, Emmett’s car was parked right there!
“How come you’re back so early? You should’ve given me a heads-up!”
“If I had, there wouldn’t be any surprise,” Emmett chuckled, “If you were seeing someone else, I’d have caught you

Clara replied helplessly, “Caught being unfaithful? You sure that’s a surprise and not a shock?”
“Shock it is then,” Emmett waved at her from downstairs, “Come on down, I’ll take you to Toy Town.”
“Alright,”
Clara quickly hung up, dashed downstairs, and hopped into his car.
Seeing her cautious demeanor, Emmett laughed, “What are you doing? Acting like you’re guilty of something!”
“I don’t want to be seen.”
“So, what if they see us? We’re getting married eventually, they’ll find out sooner or later.” Emmett didn’t get why
Clara was being so careful.
“When I’m worthy of standing next to you, it’ll be different. Most people will think I’m with you for your money when
we announce our marriage! The rest will think it’s a prank!”
“You shouldn’t be so hard on yourself! I love you, not because of who you are or what you have!”
“I’ve got my pride! I want people to admire us as a perfect couple when I stand next to you! To say that I can add
color to your life! I don’t want them to think in the end that you chose me because you made a mistake.”
Emmett was at a loss trying to understand her perspective. He took out a few cans of coffee beans from the trunk.
“Do you like coffee? This is a special product I brought back, very rare! They can only produce like ten cans a year.”
Clara took a look, “So this is pretty valuable, huh? It would be a waste to let me drink it! I only drink coffee for the
kick.”
Back in the day, she had to work several jobs at once just to make ends meet! Time was always scarce, she had to
cut back on sleep and rely on coffee for a boost.

enough as it is.”
Clara gave him a look and chuckled, “I’m not slow.”
“Just not smart enough, right?”
Clara knew she couldn’t argue with him.
In the hotel, Elio silently lay on the couch, not uttering a single word. His phone was tossed onto the carpet, and the
cigarette butts had burned a few holes in the carpet.
After sorting things out, Leah opened the door to this sight.
“Bro, you’re not planning to burn this place down, are you?”
Ello gave her a glance, said nothing, and continued smoking.
“Can you stop smoking already! The room is filled with smoke, how am I supposed to sleep?” Leah walked over,
snatched the cigarette from his hand, and put it out, “Is Clara really worth all this?”
