Chapter 602 I Was Blind Once
Jade took a while to recover her senses on Max's car, then started gnawing at her gums as to why she had hopped
on in the first place. "Uhm... thank you for earlier,” she said hesitantly. She didn't know what else to say,
embarrassed as she was. Very few people had seen her so unhinged before.
Max shrugged, oblivious to her embarrassment. "No need. I'm glad to have helped."
"What brings you to Bardoff City?'' Jade asked, switching the topics.
The car stopped outside a restaurant before Max answered, "Let's grab something to eat."
"No, thank you. I've eaten." She really just wanted to go home and rest.

Jade reluctantly agreed and followed him into the building. She couldn't be rude now, especially after he had just
helped her.
Max got them a table and ordered several dishes that Jade felt were the food she liked. When their meal was
served, Max asked, ’Was that man really your ex-husband?"
"Yes. I told you I'm a divorcee, but you-”
"You have horrible taste in men," Max grunted. He was a thousand times better than that donkey of a man, and still,
Jade didn't have eyes for him. What was that logic?
Jade was stunned by his response. She truly didn't know Hayden was such a character when she married him. If she
remembered correctly, she and Hayden had their good times. He was an entirely different man back then, too.
"Money really could corrupt a person," she thought.
Max gave her an unhappy look. Though uncertain, he still tried to ask," You're not still into him, are you?"
"No way in hell!" Jade clapped back. "I was blind once. I'm not about to blind myself this time!"
Max eased up upon hearing that. "Good. I'd really look down on you if you still did."
"You haven't answered me. What are you doing in Bardoff City?” Jade asked.
"What do you think?” Max asked back as he plated a rack of lamb on her plate.
Noticing how he was tending to her, Jade blushed. It was pretty clear just from this. "You're..."
"The Pearsons want to expand into Bardoff City, too," he said lightly, watching Jade fluster.
"Oh, so it wasn't because of me," Jade thought, instantly feeling disappointed. When she looked up again, she saw
Max still staring at her as if reading her thoughts. She cleared her throat, then took a sip from a nearby glass.

"Really? That's good. There are more opportunities in Bardoff. H
The moment she swallowed a mouthful of the beverage, she coughed." What is this?" she asked, staring at the
empty glass in her hand.
"White wine. That's my glass you're holding.” Max grinned. He hadn’t stopped Jade from drinking because part of
him was curious how she'd behave once drunk.
Jade sighed. "Why didn't you stop me?"
"It was too late."
Jade rolled her eyes. Liar liar, pants on fire.
