Her words struckharder than any physical blow ever could. My jaw tightened in anger as | tried to process
the pain she had just inflicted on me. How could she say that? If she had truly lovedonce, how could she
forget that love? How could her heart have changed so completely?
Her eyes burned with animosity, and it sent a pang through my chest-a feeling I couldn't explain, nor did | want
to admit. Why did it hurt so much to see her like this, to hear her speak tothis way?
"Take your sorry back and letlive my life," she said coldly, rubbing her forehead as if she were exhausted.
"I'm tired of you, Kane. How many times do | need to tell you that?"
I didn't respond. | let her vent, let her say whatever was on her mind.

"I'm trying to stay calm with you," she continued, her voice rising slightly. "Can't you see that? After everything-
after fighting with you in the war-you should know by now that I'm not the same. I'm controlling my anger
because | don't want to hurt you."
Her words cut deeper than | cared to admit. | kept my gaze locked on her face, studying her every expression.
She spoke of killingas if it were nothing. Her hatred fornow seemed so much
stronger than the love she claimed to have felt before. It was unbearable.
"Kane," she said suddenly, breaking the silence, "let's make a deal, okay?"
| frowned, "What deal?"
She hesitated for a moment, as if choosing her words carefully.
"I know | can't make you understand, but | want you to give my children the best life you can. If you're even a
little sorry for the way you treatedall these years, then give my children back to me."
| stared at her, disbelief washing over me. How could she even say that?
"After keeping them fromfor almost six years, you still have the audacity to ask for them?" | asked,
unable to hide the bitterness in my voice.
She looked startled by my question, as if she hadn't expectedto fight her on this. Did she think I would just
hand them over? Did she think | would hurt her?
| scoffed internally. Selene was the only woman in the world who wasn't afraid of me, and yet she still
underestimated me.
"How can you be so cruel, Kane?" she asked, her voice trembling slightly. "I'm their mother."
"And I'm their father," | replied, my tone firm.
She inhaled deeply, as if trying to steady herself. Then she nodded, her
expression shifting as though she'd made up her mind about something.
"Fine," she said. "Raise them like royals. They deserve everything you have to give. | won't interfere with their
lives. But..."

She paused, and | could see the hesitation in her eyes.

"But what?" | asked, my tone sharp.
"Don't force my children to call another woman their mother," she said, finally meeting my gaze.
| raised an eyebrow, my curiosity piqued. "How do you know about that?"
Her eyes widened slightly, and it was clear she hadn't thought before speaking. She quickly turned away from
me, avoiding my gaze.
"I don't need to hear it from anyone,” she said, her voice quieter now. "I know you too well, Kane."
It dawned onthen-she must have learned about Ruby looking after Luna and Leo. That was why she had
brought this up.
"I'll take care of them," | said firmly.
Before | could say anything else, my driver interrupted us. He had gotten out of the car and was hurrying toward
us, holding a bag in his hand.
"Alpha," he said, bowing slightly before turning to Selene. "Miss, your phone has been ringing for quite some
time,"
He handed the bag to Selene, and | realized it was her purse. She took it from him without a word, her
expression unreadable.
