| was stunned. My head turned slowly toward him, my eyes searching his face for any hint of sincerity.

Kane Thorne-the man who never apologized, not even to his own parents-had just said, "I'm sorry." It was

shocking, to say the least.

But | couldn't help wondering: 'What was he sorry for?"

"For what?" | asked, my voice guarded.

His expression remained calm, unreadable. It was as if he was trying to keep his emotions locked away, hidden

from view.

"For misunderstanding you," he replied simply.

| looked away, unable to meet his gaze. His words didn't touchthe way they might have years ago. Too much

had happened.

"Kane," | said quietly, "how many things can you even be sorry for? Can you giveback the eight years of my

life that you stole?"

He stayed silent.

| couldn't tell if he still sawas guilty-as the criminal who had somehow ruined his life by marrying

him.

With a heavy sigh, | turned back to him, meeting his gaze head-on. "Actually, I'm the one who should be sorry. |

should never have agreed to marry you in the first place. | was childish and..."

| stopped myself, realizing | was about to say too much.

"And what?" he pressed, his voice carrying a hint of desperation.

| shook my head and looked away. "Nothing. | was young, and | made mistakes. That's all."

But deep down, guilt twisted in my chest. | hadn't known about the other woman in his life. If | had, | never would

have entertained the idea of marrying him. | never would have ruined both our lives.

"You didn't tellyou were in love with someone else," | said, my voice quieter now. "If you had, | would never

have gotten in your way. | would never have ruined your life like that."

His expression hardened. A deep frown formed between his brows, and he stepped closer to me.

"But after a while in the marriage, you did find out," Kane said, his voice sharp. "And yet, you never said

anything about it back then."

| raised my eyebrows, confused by his words. "What's the point of bringing that up now?"

He didn't reply immediately. His face was tight, his mood clearly souring, but | couldn't bring myself to

care.

The truth was simple: | hated this man. | hated him from the very bottom of my heart. And no matter what

happened, that hatred wasn't going anywhere.

The pain he had causedover the years had seeped into my soul. It was permanent, etched intolike a

scar. Nothing could erase it-not in this lifetime.

"You used to say you loved me," he said suddenly, his voice low as his eyes bore into mine

My breath caught in my throat. His words struck a nerve | didn't want touched. | looked away harshly, trying to

compose myself.

| took a step back, intending to put sdistance between us, but Kane was faster. His hand wrapped around

my waist, pullingcloser to him.

| froze, stunned by his boldness.

Memories of the past crushing back in an instant-moments when he had tried to get close to me, moments

when | had pushed him away. Five years of tangled emotions flashed through my mind

'Why couldn't he just letlive in peace?’

"I know you loved me," he said, his voice steady and confident. "You still love me.

And you always will. You can't fake your feelings, Selene."

His words hitlike a thunderclap, shaking something deep inside me. Memories flickered the flashes of light-

moments | had buried long ago. For a second, it felt like the entire world had stopped

around us.

But then reality ccrashing back.

| snapped out of it just as Kane leaned closer, his face inches from mine. His proximity sent a surge of anger

through me, and | immediately shoved him away.

“You're right,” | said, my voice trembling with fury. “I loved you. | loved you so much that no other woman could

ever love you the way | did."

For a brief moment, something changed in his eyes-something | couldn't quite place.

But | wasn't finished.

"Don't fool yourself into thinking I still feel that way," | said harshly. "My heart has changed, Kane. And there's no

longer anyone named Kane Thorne in it."
