Chapter 240 Thoughtful

Joe, having just vented about the disappointing results from the Agricultural Institute, groaned, “I swear, | wish |

could be eating that spaghetti Charmaine made! Instead, they draggedinto shuge feast this morning,

and I'm still mad about it! Those wasteful kids are drivingcrazy!”

Basil, lounging comfortably in his rocking chair, couldn’t contain his smugness.

He was in a good mood, and naturally, he felt the need to show it off.

Freya stepped into the yard and froze in her tracks at the sight of two suitcases brimming with dirty laundry. She

was stunned. Didn't Master Field just got to Eragos yesterday? How could he possibly have accumulated so much

laundry so quickly?

She felt a surge of frustration, but after taking a deep breath, she reluctantly sat on a small bench and got to

work scrubbing the clothes.

She had never done housework before and certainly hadn't anticipated that washing clothes would take more

than three hours.

By the tshe reached the servant's quarters, Freya no longer cared if the bed was neat or not. She just lay

down, eyes shut, and quickly fell into an exhausted sleep.

When she finally awoke, it was already evening, and the woman who had left in the morning had returned.

She looked at Freya in surprise. “Why did you sleep here?”

Freya shot up in alarm. “Master Field!”

She scrambled to get up, but the woman stopped her. “Master Field's in a meeting with the city secretary right

now. You can’t go in.”

Frustrated, Freya snapped, “I need to talk to him! Why did | even chere today if | can’t see him?”

The woman hesitated, then suggested, “Miss, | was only temporarily assigned here, but | need to leave for a

family emergency. How about this: for the next few days, you could take my place and stay with him. After the

summit, when Master Field has more free time, you'll have a better chance to speak with him. It might even work

out better.”

Freya's eyes widened. “You hadact as his nanny for one day, and now you wantto do it for several

more?”

The woman quickly tried to explain, “I'll pay you for the extra days, of course. But if you only stay for one day, it

might seem like you're not fully committed. You're already doing so much, so why not stay a little longer? It

could improve your chances.”

“I don’t need your money!” Freya snapped.

She doubted that even a month’s pay as a nanny could buy her a decent pair of shoes.

Her frustration boiled over. After spending an entire day washing clothes, only to see it all for nothing, she was

even more reluctant to stay.

In the end, she threw her hands up in defeat. “Fine, I'll stay until the summit ends, but after that, I'm done!”

Field.”

For the next few days, Freya arrived early each morning, carrying tea, washing clothes, mopping floors, and

doing whatever tasks she could to prove her usefulness, all while subtly trying to catch Basil's attention.

However, she had to be careful not to push him too far, worried that she might upset him.

What frustrated her the most was how elusive he was. Despite being in the shouse, she hardly ever saw

him.

Finally, after Basil knocked over an inkstone in the study, Freya went up to clean it, only to find out he was taking

a walk downstairs. Before he left, he left a note instructing her to clean all the windows.

Freya's face twisted with anger as she stormed off.

Half an hour later, she returned with a large rag, scrubbing the windows with a vengeance, letting all her

frustration pour into the glass.

During this time, Charmaine received several voice messages from the Elders. The brief, 51-second messages all

carried the ssentiment: “Charmaine, we miss you and the meals you make!”

Charmaine couldn't help but laugh as she looked at her phone.

She had ordered more meat and vegetables for the villas kitchen, and after returning from school, she spent

hours cooking, not emerging until dinner was ready.

When it was tto eat, Emyr entered the dining room and paused, staring at the spread of dishes-sweet, sour,

and spicy, with various styles of food.

“Did we have guests today?” he asked, clearly surprised.

Charmaine smiled warmly, playing the role of a considerate host. “Mr. Emyr, | know you've been busy with the

summit. You should take this opportunity to rest and enjoy your meal.”

Emyr raised an eyebrow, his gaze meeting hers. She was smiling softly, her eyes shining like a clear moon. Her

smile was so gentle that a small dimple appeared on her cheek, making her all the more endearing.

Alfred, who was standing nearby, couldn't help but comment, “Mr. Emyr, Ms. Nelson knows that you can’t eat too

much, so she only served one portion of each dish for you. She’s really thoughtful.”

Charmaine gave a modest smile, playing it off.

Emyr felt genuinely cared for, and as a result, his appetite seemed to double.

That night, however, he tossed and turned in bed, his stomach too full to be comfortable, while Charmaine slept

soundly beside him.

Meanwhile, over at Basil's place, the smeal was delivered to the villa.
