Chapter Coa Chapter 0037 I stared at the young, panicked driver as I tried to make sense of his words.

Of course, we invited the Alpha King to the wedding-it would be an Insult not to-but he never attended events like this. There were too many weddings too frequently, and he didn't want to give the appearance of favoritism by only going to a few chosen events.

I knew what the driver was saying was unlikely, but he seemed so panicked that I knew he wasn't lying The entire kitchen had gone still as everyone stared at the boy, waiting for someone to react.

I turned my eyes to my mother. She was staring atwith the slook of surprise that I was sure was on my own face.

"Who told you this?" my mother finally asked.

"We got a message,” the boy replied, “a message from the king's driver, that they would be arriving shortly before the ceremony is to begin. They told us to be prepared for the king and his guest." "Are we prepared?" I asked, turning my uncertain eyes to my mother. "If the king is truly coming, then everything has to be perfect." "It will be," she said.

"We can't afford for any slight thing to go wrong or to be out of place. We can't risk upsetting or insulting the king, even accidentally." "I know," my mother said, grabbing both of my arms and makinglook into her face. "Take a deep breath and calm down, Ella. Everything is going to be perfect." The king had not cto my wedding in the original timeline, and I had no idea why he would have changed his mind now. Could it be because I had been attending Alpha Council meetings and made such a good impression that he was going out of his way for me? I had a hard tbelieving it, but I had no other explanation.

My mother released my arms and grabbed a pastry from the counter.

"Eat this and drink a cup of coffee," she instructed, "then go upstairs and get ready for your wedding." "But I need to make sure that the staff-" "I will take care of everything," she promised. "All you need to focus on is getting yourself ready." I reluctantly took the flaky pastry from her and nodded in agreement. I knew I could trust my mother to make sure everything was completely perfect, but I still felt anxious and wished there was more I could do.

My mother calmly led the driver out of the room to speak with him privately, and I leaned against the counter, eating the pastry as my mind raced with all of the possibilities.

The King's presence at the wedding could change everything. There was no way forto know if things would proceed the way they had in the original timeline. What if everything went wrong? What if my plan fell apart? I shook my head. No, it would do no good forto think that way. I had to move forward and trust that I would finally be able to expose the truth.

I quickly drank a cup of coffee and then started to head upstairs. I wasn't sure if I would be able to sit still to get my hair and makeup done. I was feeling anxious, and, if I was honest, a little frightened. I needed reassurance, I didn't know who to go to.

but 14 Chapter 0037 +25 BONUS Instead of turning left and going into the bridal suite, I ducked into a storage room across the hall and pulled my phone out of my pocket.

It was the first tI had ever called Alexander. Usually, I would text, and he would callif he was available to talk. But now I was shaky and frightened, and he was the only one I could think of who could makefeel better and restore a bit of my confidence.

Alexander picked up on the second ring. "What is it?" he asked in a curt tone.

"I've just been told that the Alpha King will be attending tonight," I said in a breathless rush. "I don't know what to do." "That's unusual," he said thoughtfully. "I would suggest that you proceed as usual. I don't think this warrants an adjustment in the plans." I frowned down at the phone. He was reacting strangely to this. Surely, he must understand how odd it was for the King to cto the wedding of an Alpha's daughter. Why did he seem so nonchalant about it? Then I heard a voice on the other end of the phone. Someone was speaking to Alexander. I couldn't be certain, but it sounded a little bit like his beta. That's when I understood why he was speaking strangely he wasn't alone. He was being guarded so that he wouldn't reveal who he was speaking to I immediately felt stupid for having called him. I should have been more careful and texted him to see if he was in a place where he could talk. After all, we were not supposed to have a relationship of any kind It would seem extremely strange if anyone knew I had called him. As far as anyone knew, we weren't even friends.

| I could have just ruined everything with my impulsiveness had to be more careful.

"Do you agree with my assessment?" Alexander asked.

"Yes," I replied quickly. "You're right, of course." It was too late to make any changes to the plan anyway. I would just have to hope that the king's presence wouldn't alter things in an unexpected way.

"I just wanted to give you a heads up," I said, trying to sound calm, "so that you could be fully prepared.

"Thank you for passing along the information," he replied. "We'll talk again soon." "Right," I answered before quickly hanging up.

I wanted to cry out in frustration, but I resisted the urge. Even hiding in a storage room, there was a possibility that someone would hear me. I didn't need to embarrass myself any further today.

My nerves were going to get the better ofif I wasn't more careful. I asn't more took a few deep breaths to calm myself, then made my way across the hallway to the bridal suite. Hair and makeup artists had been hired to getready for the day. All eyes would be on me, and I needed to make sure I looked my best.

I had met with the beauticians a few times already and done a few practice looks, so I had a pretty good idea of what I was going to look like.

It wasn't all that different from what I had chosen in the original timeline. It was a little bit more refined and mature, but that was the only slight difference. I walked into the room, expecting to find the staff eagerly awaiting me.

Instead, I saw that they were already hard at work. The makeup artist was thoughtfully examining her palette, el holding up to match the skin tone of the person sitting in the makeup chair, while the hairstylist was busy with 23 +25 BONUS Chapter 0037 a flat iron.

They turned to look atas I entered the room, as did the person sitting in the chair. A guilty look stole over her face when she saw me.

I stared back at her, anger building in my chest that I knew wouldn't be able to contain.
