Reese kept her expression stoic as she spoke to Luther, her voice calm and measured. "Luther, | have a feeling
that you don't fully understand my position with regard to you. You've been incredibly kind toin the past, and
I'll always be grateful for that. | don't want to be ungrateful, but could you... keep sdistance from me? You
have a fiancée, and now everyone seems to think that I'm the other woman. Do you really want to add fuel to
the rumors?"
Luther struggled for words, his voice dropping. "Reese, that wasn't my intention. I'm genuinely concerned for
your welfare."
Reese closed her eyes, a veil of sadness falling over her. "I know, and | appreciate your concern, but I'm really
fine, and my friend is going to helpresolve this situation. That's all. Thank you."
After she finished speaking, Reese hung up the phone.
As soon as she put the phone down, she saw Ava looking at her with a
complicated expression.

Reese pursed her lips, "Why are you looking atlike that?"
Ava was silent, "Is your relationship with Luther so strained now? Besides, isn't Lukas in Switzerland?"
There was a hint of sadness in Reese's eyes, and her tone of voice grew heavier. "It's not that our relationship is
strained. | just want him to let go of me, to stop worrying so much about me. Do | have to find out that his
kindness tois like the sharp edge of a knife? I've had a taste of it before, and | don't want to hurt myself
again, nor do | want him to suffer too much. With the way things are right now, it is ideal to keep a certain
distance. | mean, he is already engaged to Vivian. If | were to get any closer, it would only cause complications."
She continued, "Besides, | don't want history to repeat itself. In the past, | could claim ignorance of the
relationship between Luther and Vivian, but now... | can't. As for Lukas' whereabouts, that's not relevant. What is
important is that | want Luther to understand that | don't need him as a protective brother any longer. | have a
boyfriend and I can stand on my own."
Ava nodded, sighed softly, and said nothing more.
She thought about her past feelings for Cole Hopkins. Despite the lingering affection and pain in her heart, there
were sthings that could not be undone the moment she decided to let him go.
If you think about it carefully, they, her and Reese, are in the sboat.
It was after she was admitted to the hospital that she finally let go of her obsession with Cole Hopkins.
She also cto understand that there was only so far that her feelings for Cole Hopkins could go in the future.
Back then, when Reese brought Clark Joseph to Luther, he was afraid that he had cut off all possibilities with
Luther.
At the hospital.
Mariel saw that she had arrived at the hospital, but the taxi driver dropped her off at the back of the hospital.
The driver flattered by saying, "Miss, there's no room at the hospital entrance. | can see that you're in a hurry,
too. If you get out of the car from here and walk straight through this alley, you'll get to the hospital faster than |
can drive through all the chaos."
Mariel had driven to Rivers Health Medical Center before. She knew that at night, with many people leaving work
to visit hospitalized patients, the entrance to the hospital would be crowded.
Even though she was unhappy, she paid the fare and got out of the car.

Before Mariel got out of the car, he didn't notice that someone else had gotten out of the car not far behind her.
Several men were standing next to her. He stood behind the billboard and glared at Mariel, his eyes flashing with
malice.
Mariel took a look at the small alley in front of him. Maybe it was a bit narrow and there were hardly any people
in it.
She pursed her lips and entered quickly.
Mariel went inside and dialed Anthony's phone number.
Anthony had just left surgery when he got a call from Mariel.
Mariel was walking, a little out of breath, and his voice was a little hurried, "Dr. Rivers, have you seen the videos
and photos on the Internet? The person in the pictures is not Reese. | have a nagging feeling that | know him.
He's the man who visited the hospital before. We crossed paths looking for you, remember? We even shared an
elevator with a woman who looked like Reese. Do you remember her? Please check her records. She may have
helped Reese back then!"
Anthony's brow furrowed as Mariel rushed through her explanation. "What in the world are you talking about?"
Mariel was dumbfounded for a moment, "Don't you know what I'm talking about?"
