Sarah edged closer to Arthur slumped on the couch, his

breathing uneven and his eyes half-closed. Her gaze was full of longing and determination.
“Arthur,” Sarah whispered softly, “lettake care of you. Charlotte doesn’t love you. She's desperate for a
divorce-that’s why she senthere.”
The faint scent of her perfwafted toward Arthur, mingling with the drug-induced haze clouding his senses.
Arthur gritted his teeth and forced his eyes shut, trying to push through the fog in his head. “Get away.” With a
sudden burst of strength, he shoved Sarah aside, his voice sharp with disgust.
Her words lingered in his mind, echoing like a taunt. Arthur thought, “Charlotte sent her here. She knew I'd been
drugged, and this is her response? Throwing another woman at me? Is she so desperate to pushaway?”
A cold fury churned in his chest, sharp and unrelenting, spreading through every corner of his body. His face
hardened, his usual elegance replaced by a dark, dangerous edge.

“Arthur...” Sarah stumbled back but quickly regained her footing. She wasn’t about to let this chance slip away.
She thought, “This is it-my only shot. If | could sleep with him,

“Arthur, you're still thinking about Charlotte, aren't you?” she said, her voice trembling with both fear and
resolve. “Don’t you realize it? She’s the one who drugged you.”
“Shut up!” Arthur's voice lashed out, sharp and deadly. Her words grated on him, cach syllable stoking his rage.
He pushed himself upright, though his body swayed unsteadily. He had to find Charlotte. He needed to confront
her, to demand the truth.
But before he could take a step, Sarah clung to him again, her arms wrapping tightly around his waist. “Arthur,
lethelp you,” she whispered, her voice soft and coaxing. “I'll do whatever you want. Anything...”
As she spoke, she began to unbutton her dress, her intentions clear. Arthur's eyes darkened, and in a flash, his
hand shot out, gripping her throat. “You want to help?” he growled, his voice low and cold. “Then die for me.”
His grip tightened. Sarah’s eyes widened in horror. She clawed at his hands, gasping for air, but his strength was
unyielding. This wasn’t supposed to happen. The drug-she’d seen its effects. Just a small dose could strip
someone of reason, leaving them at the mercy of their desires.
Arthur should have lost control by now, reduced to nothing but an animalistic need. But instead, his mind was
sharp-too sharp. And he wanted Sarah dead.
The sudden sound of a door opening broke the tension. Barrett

burst into the room, rushing to Arthur's side and pulling him back. “Arthur!”

Arthur turned to him, his temples throbbing, his eyes bloodshot. “Where is she? Where's Charlotte?”
Barrett met his gaze, calm but firm. “Arthur, this isn’t the time. Let's get you out of here first. I'll find Charlotte
and bring her to you-I promise.”
Arthur hesitated, his chest heaving with anger, before finally allowing Barrett to guide him out of the room.
Sarah crumpled to the floor, gasping for breath, her hands clutching her neck. She had been seconds away from
death.

Terror filled her wide eyes, but before she could even process what had just happened, a figure loomed over her.
A hand gripped her chin, forcing her mouth open, and a cold liquid was poured down her throat. She gasped,
eyes darting up to see who it was, but before she could make out their face, darkness
swallowed her whole.

Charlotte glanced at her phone. The rideshare was just several hundred feet away. She turned to look back at
the club one last time. She thought, “By now, everyone inside must have seen Arthur with Sarah.”
Her lips curled into a faint, bitter smile before she turned back toward the street. But before she could take

shadows emerged from the darkness, closing in on her, and a black hood was shoved over her head. A pair of
strong arms lifted her off the ground with ease.
