Chapter 272 A Disaster Out of Kindness
Fernando’s expression remained unchanged.
“Ms. Rita, Ms. Maia, please have a seat. Mr. Hans is still resting. I’ll go and see if he’s awake,” Fernando politely said. After
uttering these words, he nodded to the two women and turned towards the antique staircase.
Once Fernando left, Rita looked at her freshly painted bright red nails, somewhat dissatisfied, and said, “Are you juts going to sit
there? Shouldn’t you be preparing tea for your mother?”
“Of course, I’m sorry for forgetting my manners,” Maia responded immediately, heading toward the nearby counter.
She looked at the tea that Fernando had started preparing, and her gaze subtly changed. The counter was quite a distance from
the living room. Maia had her back turned to Rita, so Rita could not see what she was doing.
Maia began preparing the tea. She made one cup of tea and half filled it with salt, the temperature of the tea perfectly dissolving
the fine salt particles.
Then, holding the tea cup, Maia walked back to the living room. At the same time, the elevator door nearby slowly opened, and
an elderly man with a cane walked out with Fernando’s support.
Maia’s grip on the teacup tightened involuntarily. She was worried that Rita would hurt Hans. After all, the current Hans was
naive and child–like, with memory lapses from time to time.
“Father, the rest must have done you good! I’m glad to see you looking so refreshed. I brought you some supplements I carefully
selected especially for you. Would you like to see them?” Rita said with a false smile.
However, Hans did not even glance at Rita and completely ignored her words. Seeing his reaction and demeanor, Maia was sure
of one thing: his memory was clear now. She felt somewhat relieved.
Maia humbly said, “Grandpa, I’m sorry. I must be such a disappointment. I’m not as filial as mother, who thinks about you in
Hans chuckled. “Learn from her? Can you learn to create flowers? Forget it. Come with me to the backyard of Beverley Manor.
It’s already late autumn and many of the flowers have withered. Ah, humans are just like flowers, they don’t last forever!”
After saying this, Hans walked directly towards the backyard. Fernando immediately instructed the servants to prepare some
snacks and take them to the gazebo. Then he supported Hans as he walked.

Outside, the green chrysanthemums were blooming beautifully, and the fragrance of osmanthus still filled the air.
After entering the gazebo, Maia placed the tea cup in front of Rita. While Rita sat down, Maia remained standing. Just like
before, she stood behind Rita like a servant. Seeing this, Hans immediately called out to Maia, saying, “Please sit down. Why are
you standing?”
Before Maia could comply, Rita’s immediately raised her voice and said, “Maia, please leave us. I have something private to
discuss with your grandfather.”
“As you wish.,” Maia replied. She walked out of the gazebo, but kept a close eye on Rita’s every
move.
Once Maia and Fernando had left, Rita looked at Hans and said, “I heard that your memory is occasionally lapses. How are you
feeling right now?”.
Hans waved his hand and laughed. “I can’t remember. I’ve forgotten so many things. I only remembered who you are because
both you and Fernando metioned it. I’ve become useless in my old age. For people who don’t matter much to me, I simply can’t
remember them.”
Upon hearing his words, Rita felt displeased, but her goal had not been achieved yet. She could not lose her temper.
“Father, since you admitted to losing your purpose, I feel it’s time to let go of everything you have.” Rita’s words were sharp, but
she said them with a smile.
day.
Rita knew that Hans was pretending to be confused, so she directly said, “I know that you’ve already handed over all your shares
to Cedric. Cedric is my son, and as his mother, I have no objections. Now, the entire Larkin family is controlled by Cedric alone. It
is because of him
that our centuries–old family, stands at the pinnacle of the business world.
“However, my husband, your son,/said something before he passed away. He mentioned that what holds the fate of the Larkin
family is in your hands. He hoped that you would entrust it to someone trustworthy and capable in the future.”
Rita’s words were clear enough, and because she spoke so bluntly, the expression on Hans’s face changed instantly. His face,
already marked by age, suddenly became ashen. His already furrowed brows deepened.
He slammed his hand down on the marble table and looked at Rita, shouting without hesitation, “What are you saying? Rita,
what are you talking about? I see now that this is no simple visit. You came to ask me to give something up! It was a grave
mistake letting a woman like you into the Larkin family. If I hadn’t been so kind to you back then, perhaps this disaster could’ve
been averted!”

Hans’s anger immediately drew the attention of Maia and Fernando. However, Rita showed no intention of backing down. On the
contrary, she intensified her approach.
“Father, I came today to visit you, there’s no doubt about that. I really did I personally select these supplements with heartfelt
intentions,” Rita explained.
Rita’s explanation, only made Hans more angry. “Who knows if the supplements you selected are genuinely for my well–being or
if they have a more sinister purpose!”
“Father, your assumptions hurt my feelings!” Rita’s words seemed sorrowful, but the sharpness in her tone only grew more
intense.
