Chapter 175 I Would Do Anything
He smiled sadly as he released her. “Then, let’s start over, as if that teacup didn’t exist.”
“That’s easier said than done, especially to the ones that were hurt in the process. Just as the saying goes, once bitten, twice
shy. I’m not sure what my future holds, but I would prefer it if you weren’t part of it.”
Maia smiled. Her broken heart had taken ages to mend itself. How could she possibly forget all the hurt he had caused her so
easily?
“Cedric, we’ve had a long day. Let’s all go to bed now.” Maia said as she turned and left the game room without waiting for his
response.
Cedric looked at her slender back with a pained expression. His eyes could not contain the loneliness he felt as his heart
quivered in pain. He tousled his hair in rage and punched the surface of the billiard table. He knew that he had brought this upon
himself.
After about 5 minutes, Cedric came out of the game room and entered the kitchen. When Baz saw him sitting at the kitchen
counter, he rushed forward and reported, “Mr. Cedric, I’ve sent men to watch Oswald. When the sun rises tomorrow, we’ll
immediately send him away.
Cedric nodded in acknowledgement as he proceeded to take out a bottle of whiskey from the wine cabinet and downed a glass
of it.
“Mr. Cedric, you shouldn’t drink on an empty stomach. This would only agitate your stomach. problems,” Baz said.
Cedric had been drowning himself in work. This led to a series of unhealthy lifestyle choices, messing up his circadian rhythm
and giving him severe stomach problems.
stomach ulcer, she would not bat an eyelash.
He continued to knock back glasses of whiskey to numb the pain. “When you’ve found a donor for Oswald’s grandson, make
sure that they leave the city.”
“Got it. I’ve sent enough men to get the job done shortly. However, I still don’t understand why we’re letting Oswald go. He tried
to kill Ms. Maia. Even though he had a reason, isn’t it a bit risky to let him go?” Baz asked in confusion.
“Oswald didn’t manage to do what he was told. Don’t you think the person behind him would try to get in touch again?“,
Baz’s face lit up as he finally realized what had transpired, “So, that’s why Ms. Maia chose to let him go. Wasn’t Ms. Rita the one
who prepared the food? Naturally, she would be the woman who had called Oswald, right?”

“She wouldn’t be so stupid as to poison her own food.” Cedric knew Rita well. If Rita was that foolish, she would not be able to
wield such power in the Larkin family.
“Right! If she did that, it would be like announcing publicly that she was the culprit. Even if she managed to push the blame on a
housekeeper, she would still be considered as the mastermind behind this.
“Does that mean that the one who poisoned our food and the woman who instructed Oswald to kill Ms. Maia was the same?”
“Most likely,” Cedric responded.
“Got it! I’ll it
it! I’ll instruct the men to place Oswald under 24–hour surveillance.”
“Make sure to get someone to bug Oswald’s cell phone as well.” Since Maia had given him an opportunity, he would finish the
work for her.
“On it,” Baz replied. Before he left the kitchen, he turned to look at his boss and whispered to himself. “He’s just drinking to drown
Baz shook his head helplessly. No matter what he said, he knew he would not be able to change Cedric’s mind.
Unfortunately, the only one who could had chosen not to be involved.
Cedric sat alone in the large, dimly lit kitchen as he kept drinking. Her words echoed in his head.
‘A teacup that was broken would never be the same even if it was pieced together by a skilled craftsman. The same goes for
trust. It’s difficult to rebuild after you’ve destroyed it.”
‘It’s easier said than done, especially to the ones that were hurt in the process. Just as the saying goes, once bitten, twice shy.
I’m not sure what my future holds, but I would prefer it if you weren’t part of it.”
He threw the glass at the wall angrily and it shattered into pieces.
“I will continue to be part of your life! No matter what it takes!” Cedric vowed. Even if it means he had to give up his own life!
The rain showed no signs of subsiding as it stormed outside. Maia could hear the pitter–patter of rain hitting the windows as she
tossed and turned in her bed.
She kept thinking about how Cedric had pulled her into his embrace and protected her when she was about to give up.

However, she could not forget how he had hurt her too. How her love and care had always been disregarded and ignored by
him.
Her heart would always flutter and hurt because of him. She closed her eyes, telling herself to stop thinking and go to bed.
After what seemed like an eternity, she finally fell asleep.
A few hours later, the bedroom door opened, and Cedric quietly walked toward the bed. He laid down and scooped her into his
arms. Maia snuggled comfortably in his embrace and drifted off to sleep.
The next morning, Maia was startled by a loud commotion. Her head still felt heavy as she tossed around and pulled the covers
over herself, trying to fall back to sleep.
Sadly, she was interrupted shortly after when a knock came through the door.
“Good morning, Maia. Are you awake yet?”
Before Maia could respond, the door opened, and Rita came strolling in.
