Chapter 161 You Played It Well
Baz swiftly pulled Tess out of the ward. However, Tess continued to protest loudly, hoping that Maia could regain her memory.
Soon, there was a loud “bang,” signaling the closure of the ward door. Once closed, the room. returned to its previous quiet
state. He was the first to break the silence.
played it well,” his confident words echoed in her ears. He still held her with one hand, showing no intention of letting go.
Maia’s body tensed slightly, but she raised her eyes to look at him, puzzled. “What are you talking about? I don’t understand...‘
He chuckled, lowered his head to kiss her forehead, and spoke with a fond tone, “It’s okay if you don’t understand. Just know
that no matter when you do, I’ll cooperate. That’s enough.”
Maia didn’t say anything, just blinked her clear eyes at him. She remained in his embrace without any other moves.
But what she never expected was that he seemed to see through her thoughts. She didn’t know which part went wrong. Did he
believe she was acting because her performance wasn’t convincing enough?
“I’m a bit tired,” she said softly, using an excuse to leave his embrace and lie on the hospital bed, turning her back to him.
He chuckled and asked, “Do you want me to stay with you?”
If it were the old her, she would have nodded warmly. Even if he saw through her, she had to carry on with this act.
“Yes!” she answered without hesitation.
Suddenly, she felt a warm breath in her right ear.
“Do you want me, hmm?”
Maia didn’t dare to open her eyes, but her cheeks blushed. He lowered his head, gave her cheek a gentle kiss, and then tucked
in the corners of her blanket.
Afterward, he settled into a nearby sofa, his gaze still fixed on her. Even though Maia had her back to him, she could still sense
the heat emanating from behind..
She tried to calm her emotions, recalling her aunt’s reaction. She wouldn’t forget that when she was pulled into the sea by Theo,
she almost saw the jade pendant around his neck.
She recognized the jade pendant because her mother had one as well. Her mother stated that it was custom–made by a
craftsman for both daughters as a token of love for their future loved
The two distinct emerald carvings, which appeared unrelated at first glance, concealed the engraved family name Read.
Although it was not obvious, Maia had deeply etched the patterns from her mother’s pendant in her mind.
Her mother’s pendant had shattered six years ago, but the one around Theo’s neck... belonged to her aunt. Why would her
aunt’s pendant be with Theo?
If Theo stole it, the jade’s value would be worth tens of thousands, and as a gambler, he could easily sell it. So, why wear it
around his neck?
Cloud Nine Residences had excellent security. So how did Theo enter the apartment, take the elevator to her entrance hall, and
carry her and her aunt away?
Maia recalled the previous incidents, Theo’s attack in the hospital parking lot, and how he learned about Nigel Clayton’s
impending lawsuit. Her aunt had stopped by her office that afternoon and overheard her conversation with Jordan Cantrell.
Thinking further, the silhouette of the suspicious woman in the surveillance footage resembled her aunt in some ways. The
person who targeted her mother had to be someone close to her, someone she would not suspect. In that case, her aunt was not
without suspicion.
Her aunt’s repeated concerns and admonitions in the past, urging her to keep her distance from Cedric, pushing her to marry
Nigel.
What was the reason behind it? Was it a fear of her rekindling old flames with Cedric, causing her to be hurt again?
At least, that’s what she used to think. But now... could she consider that her aunt didn’t want her to have any contact with
Cedric? Just now, when she pretended to lose her memory, her aunt’s intense words seemed like good proof.
When every seemingly unrelated incident from the past was carefully considered now, terrifying. If her aunt was truly responsible
for all of this–killing her mother first, then attempting to kill her–what was the point? Why would she do such a thing?
it was
Maia couldn’t come up with a reasonable explanation, but... she had to try to lure the snake out of its hole and deceive her!
“You’re suspecting Tess.”
Cedric knew she wasn’t asleep. As if by telepathy, he looked at her slim figure and spoke confidently.
Maia was startled. How did he know?
“Curious about how I know?”

Just as he reached the door of the ward, ready to open it, her voice immediately sounded,
Wait
She quickly got up and walked at the direction of the door, immediately stopping him from opening it.
“How did you know?”
Cedric looked at her with a serious expression, completely different from the soft and cute appearance when she called him
“honey” just now. They were like two different people.
His girl was truly adorable in every way.
He embraced her waist the next second, lifting her straight up and making her bare feet step on his shoes
“Cedric!”
“Call me honey.”
“You jerk!” Maia was fuming
He grinned. “Your acting needs to be convincing.”
Maia gritted her teeth. This guy was finding every opportunity to take advantage of her!
“Cedric!” Maia gritted her teeth and called his name again. “Does the word ‘shameless‘ mean anything to you?”
“I only know how to spell the word ‘honey‘ Want me to spell it for you?”
She should have understood how thick–skinned this man was! Now wasn’t the time to banter
with him. Her current confusion needed answers from him.
Just as Maia was about to inquire, suddenly, there was a knock on the ward door. Cedric lifted her with one hand and carried her
towards the sofa on the side, making her sit on his lap
Baz walked in holding two paper bags. He quickly lowered his head.
“Mr. Cedric, dinner is ready.”
“Okay”
Baz promptly placed the items from the paper bags on the coffee table, then tactfully lett
Cedric opened the food container, picked up a piece of shrimp, and held it to Mala’s mouth
