Chapter 157 I Have Underestimated You
Maia could feel a steady rocking motion as she slowly regained her consciousness. There was a faint scent of blood in the air.
Her head and limbs also felt heavy.
The room was dark as her eyes slowly adjusted to the faint light that was shining in through the wooden gaps.
She could finally make out where she was trapped. The rocking motion solidified her speculations. They were out at sea!
Maia recalled that she was hit on the head when she got home to see Tess lying unconscious on the floor.
She quickly tried to look around for Tess, but all she could see was just some storage junk. She was confined in this room alone.
Maia knew she needed to look for something sharp to cut the ropes that were bounding her hands and feet.
She searched desperately until she finally came across a sharp iron piece. She inched toward it with difficulty. Just as she
reached it, she heard sounds coming from outside the room.
Maia immediately closed her eyes and lay motionless on the floor. Seconds later, the door toward the room opened and two men
walked in.
One of them came over to check on Maia, and when he saw she was still unconscious, he warned the other man.
“Our employer told us that this woman is very sly. Pay close attention to her and her aunt in the next room! Don’t slack off to
spend time with your girlfriend!”
“Got it, boss. Why are we so worried about these women anyway? There’s no way they’d overpower someone as big as me. You
worry too much!”
The man that was addressed retorted, “This is Starlight Entertainment’s CEO! A woman!”
A very capable
with such a beautiful woman!”
“Now that you mention it. I wonder what it’s like to sleep with someone from the upper- class!”
Maia had to swallow the urge to throw up as she continued to listen to their disgusting. conversation. When the two left, Maia
was finally able to open her eyes and grabbed the sharp. iron piece to free herself.”
The rocking motion of the boat made sounds loud enough to cover any noise she made.

When her ropes finally came loose, she threw them aside and tip–toed toward the exit. She made sure that there were no
sounds coming from the other side of the door before gently opening it.
She quickly ran to the room next to hers when she had made sure the coast was clear. The moment she entered the room, she
shuffled toward Tess and shook her gently, “Aunt Tess, wake up!”
Tess struggled to open her eyes as she heard Maia’s voice.
“Aunt Tess, are you okay? Let me help you up.” Maia quickly untied her and tried to help her
stand.
Tess shook her head and said, “I don’t think I can walk, Where are we?”.
“I think we’re on a boat. We might be out at sea. Maybe somewhere near Prismara Bay?” Maia was unfamiliar with the area, but
she was sure Prismara Bay was the only option if someone wanted to leave the city by sea.
“It was Theo.” Tess looked at Maia and continued breathlessly, “I wanted to apologize to you, so I went to your place. I never
expected that Theo would already be waiting there. I collapsed when he struck me on the head.”
When Maia saw blood stains on Tess’s shirt and noticed how weak she was, she said, “Let’s not waste time talking. We need to
get out of here!”
They did not know what Theo was planning to do to them or where he was taking them. They needed to get off the boat fast!
have a better chance of escaping if you leave on your own.”
“No! I can’t leave you!”
“You’re his target, not me! If you escape now, you can always come rescue me later. Just leave!” Tess used the last of her
strength and gave Maia a shove to urge her to go.
Maia bit her lower lip hard as she finally relented. “Aunt Tess, hang in there. I’ll be back for you!”
She knew that she had no time to waste. As long as she was able to escape, she could get help to come back for Tess.
Tess was r
right in saying that Maia was the prime target. There was a chance Theo would leave
Tess unharmed.
Maia ran with all her might toward the upper deck. When she got there, she saw a lifeboat and quickly tried to release it. Just as
she was about to succeed, she felt a gun placed against the
back of her head.

“Maia, I’ve underestimated you! You managed to escape even when you were bound. Just a few seconds more and you could
have gotten away!”
Theo’s voice came from behind her as he threatened her. “Watch out! My gun might just go off!”
“No, Theo. I’ve underestimated you. I would never have thought that you would be bold enough to abduct me from my own
home. I didn’t know you had it in you!”
He smiled. “Of course. Runs in the family, after all.”
“And here I thought all you could do was gamble. Then again, if you were good at it, you wouldn’t have lost everything, would
you?” Maia sneered. She knew he had intended to kill her the moment he caught her.
“You’re so full of it.” Theo grabbed Maia roughly and dragged her across the deck.
He ordered the men around him to bring a couple of wooden boxes over. His men did so.
“Bring the other woman over!”
Moments later, Tess was also brought to the upper deck.
