Chapter 112 Paying for My Sins
Maia was a little fearful of how frightening Cedric looked. He seemed like a vicious beast, about to
pounce at any moment.
He could strike fear into people’s hearts with the slightest movement. It was even worse when he was
drunk. She couldn’t afford to cross a drunken man.
Surprisingly, he laughed.
She wasn’t sure why, but she was reminded of when he was sixteen years old. Images of when he
protected her in the fire flashed through her mind.
She remembered his promise from back then. It was the most wonderful promise that sadly turned into
an outrageous joke.
All of a sudden, Cedric said lovingly, “You tried to kill your husband, Maia.‘
She frowned and said immediately, “Can you knock it off? I’m going to call Baz and ask him to take you
away right now!”
He didn’t answer her.
“Forget it. Why am I talking to a drunk guy? It’s pointless.”
Then, Maia took her phone out and dialed Baz’s number. A woman’s voice greeted her. “Hello. The
number you have dialed is not reachable…”
She called Baz several times, but it was the same.
Maia swore that the two of them had hatched this plan. She was sure that Baz was ignoring her

on purpose.
Maia was annoyed. ‘Fine. I’ll just leave him on the couch.‘
She turned around and walked toward the bed.
“Maia…”
She stopped in her tracks.
“I shouldn’t have lost my memories.”
She looked at Cedric and found him staring back at her, She wasn’t sure why, but she took a few steps
forward. She ended up standing in front of him again.
“What did you say?” Maia asked confusingly.
“It’s my fault for forgetting you.” He smiled bitterly. “That’s why I’m being punished now.”

Looking at a sorrowful Cedric turned her eyes red.
“You lost your memories protecting me. I don’t blame you for it. However, you do deserve all the
punishment you’re getting now.”
She used to open up her heart to him, but he ignored her. He squandered her love repeatedly until she
was deeply hurt. She wouldn’t stand by and let their relationship die. So, she picked
herself up repeatedly and tried again.
Everyone said that the darkest hour was always before dawn. She fought through it for a long
time, but dawn never came.
She eventually found a sliver of light, but all she could see with it was how badly damaged she
was. He was the one who hurt her.
Maia closed her eyes. She lifted her hand and felt a tear on her cheek. That was when she realized she
was crying.
Maia wiped away her tears and was about to turn around. Then, a red liquid dripped onto the floor and
caught her attention.
“That’s blood…”
Maia snapped out of her sorrow and looked at Cedric. She took off his suit jacket. As expected, his
white shirt was drenched in blood in the shoulder area. His wounds were reopened.
“Your wound is torn, Cedric. Didn’t you feel the pain?”
Cedric smiled bitterly. He pointed at his heart and said, “I feel the pain here.
He looked like a hurt little boy.
“You’re out of your mind!”
Maia quickly took the first aid kit and cut open the shoulder area of his shirt with a pair of scissors. She
would not want him to accuse her of taking advantage of him.
It was a good thing that they were here to shoot a program. There was a set of first–aid kits prepared in
every room.
Maia cleaned and bandaged his wounds. It was probably because of what she went through in
Eldertown. So, she did things quicker this time around.
She noticed the wound he got from saving her as she was tightening the bandage. It was recovering
quite well.
What frightened her more was the burn on his back. Maia had already seen them when they were in
Eldertown. She wanted to ask him about it but decided otherwise.

“Baz isn’t picking up his call. There are cameras in the hallway, too. I guess you’ll have to
sleep on the couch tonight. You’re going back to your room after you sober up! Is that clear?”
Maia was about to get up when Cedric hugged her again.
“Hey! Are you using your drunkenness as an excuse, Cedric? Let me go!”
“You smell good, and you feel soft. You’re my wife.” Cedric wasn’t about to let her go anytime soon.
Instead, he held her tighter.
“How shameless!”
How could he be so much more thick–skinned when he was drunk? Maia wanted to push him away
again but remembered his wounds.
It would be very serious if his wounds tore. The nearest hospital was miles away.
Maia carefully took his hands away from her and slipped out the moment his arms loosened. Then, she
took some blankets as well as pillows for him and let him sleep on the carpet.
Maia cleared up the liquor bottles and read the label—they were from Burgess Winery.
“You sure drank a lot. Remember to buy hundreds of cases of our liquor. You can repay me by
supporting Errol’s business.”
Maia cleaned up the blood and spillage. Then, she cleaned herself up and went to bed. After a while,
Maia turned around in her sleep and was embraced by a strong pair of arms.
