"He won't agree.” "You're that sure?" Bella raised an eyebrow at her daughter, sighing heavily, "You truly are my flesh and blood, as stubborn as me! | thought if | constantly warned you, you wouldn't tread the same path | did. But life has a funny way of messing with our plans." Dorothy knew her mother was thinking about her father again.
She also knew her mother wouldn't sabotage her. But Everett had done so much for her that she trusted him.
"If Everett was the kind of man who breaks his promises easily, he could have just fired me and been with Heather by now." That would have solved everything.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtEverett had a thousand ways, just as Kevin had said, to ignore her, to ignore the problems, to care only about the Lopez Corporation's interests, and to forget about her fate. But he hadn't. Even when she herself had wavered multiple times, he hadn't agreed, instead telling her in his worn-out voice.
He wouldn't have agreed to a divorce.
"Forget it. You won't believe me no matter what | say now." Dorothy looked at her, "So you mean...you're giving us your blessing?" "Of course not!" Bella denied quickly, "I just don't have the energy to argue with you anymore. | remembered what Kenneth said to me when he visited the hospital. He said you've been having a hard time, and whenever | say harsh words, you'd be upset for along time." Dorothy was momentarily silent. She hadn't expected Kenneth to tell her mother all that.
Bella chuckled as if reminiscing something, "I don't easily trust a man. But Kenneth is the first one in years who | feel | can trust a little. He really considers things from your perspective, even if it means offending me." "Mom, Everett does all these things too! Can | arrange a time for him to meet you?" "No need." Bella waved her off, "Meeting would be pointless. Let's not waste time." She didn't believe her daughter had a shot with the high and mighty Lopez family.
The reason she no longer wanted to argue with Dorothy was because she knew the Lopez family would have taken care of breaking them up themselves.
She didn't need to interfere.
And she really did remember Kenneth's words.
Dorothy was the only family she had left in the world. Harsh words would have only hurt her and ruined their relationship. It really wasn't right to do so.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmDorothy wanted to plead for Everett a few more times, but in the end, she held her tongue.
It was not because she had changed her mind, but because she didn't think it was the right time! Maybe after Everett's mother gave her blessing, she could have Everett meet her mother. By then, Bella would have nothing left to say.
After settling with her mother, Dorothy left the hospital.
Everett's car was already waiting at the gate.
She glanced at her phone and realized he hadn't sent any messages! "How long have you been waiting?" "| just got here." Everett's icy expression warmed up to a smile upon seeing Dorothy. He got up and opened the car door for her.
Dorothy paused, "You could have texted me. | would have come down sooner." "It's not urgent. | didn't want to interrupt your time with your mother and make her feel like | was stealing you away."
