Chapter 20: Claire's POV
I hear a car door close in the driveway and figure it's Leonardo. I thought it best if | were to check on
him. He never drank too much but | could've
pushed him over with what happened earlier. | may not be ready to fully forgive him but | cared about him all the same.
I make it to the top of the stairs at the foyer of the front door when I see Leo cin and gently close
the front door. | don't think he wantedto see
he'd arrive. Once he turned around, | gasped and ran down the stairs. Leo's nose was swollen, his eyes faintly bruised and I could the blood on his lip and
shirt. | reach for his face gently in the foyer and
look at him,
“What happened to you?” | ask with teary eyes. He immediately brings his hand over mine on his face, gently leaning into my touch.
“I'm okay. I'm glad you made it hsafe.” He then starts towards the stairs and I quickly follow him to what used to be our bedroom.
1 grab Leo's hand and lead him immediately to the bathroom where I tell him to sit on the rim of the grand tub located in the middle of the room and
begin getting a washcloth for his face.
“Don’t move. It's going to hurt a little bit.” | start

Chapter 20: Claire’s POV
patting the wet cloth on his lip and make my way to
his nose. Leo was never a violent man but something tellshe hit his breaking point tonight. | notice how he
doesn’t wince or even respond to my patting his wounds.

I'm sorry, Claire. | shouldn't have thrown myself on you the way | did earlier.” He bowed his head in shand |
couldn't help but feel hurt by seeing how badly | had hurt my husband.
“It’s okay. Lethelp you.” | pick up his chin and give a gentle smile as | continue dabbing his face.
“I saw Jordan while | was at the bar and I lost it. | shouldn’t have done that.” He says as he looks into
my eyes.
“Jordan did this?” | look in shock. Why would Jordan fight Leo? | grab Leo’s face and force him to
look at me.
“Did Jordan hit you?” | ask seriously - anticipating Leo's response.
“It wasn’t his fault. It was mine. | went to him and | told him to stay away from you. | shoved him.” He looked
defeated. Like he was awaiting my disappointment. As much as | was disappointed, | understood that my actions
today led Leo to believe there was something going on and he wasn’t trying
to lose me.

“Hey, it’s okay. Let's just focus getting you cleaned up.” | finally clean off the blood and decide he needed ice to
soothe the swelling. | grab Leo’s hand and give a light tug.
“Let's
‘s go get sice in the kitchen. It'll help the swelling.” Leo stands and followslike a child waiting to go into
a time-out. The way he felt was evident and | couldn't help but feel responsible. As much as he hurt- | hurt
him and I did it without
even noticing.
We make our way to the kitchen where | ask Leo to sit at the breakfast bar as | bring a pack of frozen peas from
the freezer and sit next to him.
“This might sting a little but it'll help, okay?” | wait until Leo nods to place the pack of peas to his nose. | hear a
slight grunt and my heart sinks. His nose wasn’t broken but it was painful.
“Claire.” | see his looking directly atas he grabs my wrist gently and slowly lowers my hand holding the frozen peas.
“Please, | know I hurt you. | know | haven't been the husband that you deserve and that I've set you aside unfairly but I love you. | have always loved you.
I don’t want a divorce. | want to fix this. | want to fix what I've broken and | want you to stay. Please just giveanother chance.” | look into his eyes and
