Chapter 28 Episode 28

On this second attempt, she managed to elevate her performance slightly, just enough to barely make it

through.

Yet, she still fell significantly short of Elizabeth's performance.

The gap in their performances was significant, prompting a need for a closed-door discussion between the

director and the screenwriter about the next steps.

While Stewart was not deeply involved in these deliberations, he took a moment to encourage Elizabeth,

approaching her with a warm, admiring smile.

“You did a great job.”

Elizabeth's gaze briefly landed on the cola in his hand, her smile faint and a little distracted.

Breaking the brief silence, Stewart earnestly added, “I truly mean it.

It's not merely about the cola.”

Just as he spoke, Elijah drifted into the conversation with a frosty sneer.

“Her acting didn’t seem all that remarkable to me.”

Stewart was keenly aware that Elijah was not just another critic, but the financial backbone of their project.

Stewart harbored a disdain for Sandra’s dependence on such financial backing.

Although he despised Elijah for his susceptibility to charm, Stewart wasn’t about to jeopardize the project over

pride.

He took a deliberate gulp of his cola, choosing tactful silence as his response and consciously avoiding further

engagement with Elijah.

Sandra, meanwhile, strolled up, her eyes suddenly darting to the drink in Stewart's grip as though it was a

revelation.

“Oh, look at that! Ms.

Elizabeth was kind enough to buy Mr.

Lopez a cola,” she declared, an edge of mock surprise in her voice.

She hadn't anticipated that the drink Elizabeth snatched away from Elijah would wind up in the hands of another.

To a casual observer, this might well appear as if she were shamelessly cheating in plain sight of Elijah.

Noticing Elijah’s mood sour further, a hint of amusement flickered across Sandra's features, though she

managed to maintain a poker face.

She teased with a smirk, “If | had realized a mere can of cola could sway you, Mr.

Lopez, I'd have grabbed one for you too, just as Ms.

Elizabeth did.

Elijah, care for one? Perhaps | can have someone fetch it for you.”

Elijah dismissed the offer with a scoff, glancing over at Elizabeth with a sardonic smirk.

“I avoid that sort of rubbish,” he retorted sharply.

“You frequent such refined places, Ms.

Elizabeth.

So much for being picky—you seem fine with whatever comes your way.”

Elijah’s comments were ostensibly about the cola, but the underlying dig was aimed directly at Stewart.

He insinuated that following her recent discussion on divorce, she'd swiftly fallen for a lesser-known celebrity.

How utterly pathetic could she possibly be?

Internally, Elizabeth merely shrugged off his barb with an eye roll.

In terms of acting prowess, Elijah was far superior to Sandra.

His skills were so refined, he could rightfully be dubbed a professional.

His public aloofness towards her was clearly a strategy to avoid rumors of marriage.

It seemed he was protecting Sandra from the scandalous label of being the other woman.

Indeed, Elijah seemed to be going to great lengths to look after his beloved.

Yet, this scenaplayed well into Elizabeth's hands too.

A bit more chatter about her status as a forsaken affluent wife would likely work in her favor.

After all, genuine relationships weren't merely defined by superficial labels.

Moreover, if he intended to continue pretending they were mere acquaintances in public, he had no grounds to

critique Elizabeth.

Determined to leave Stewart out of this, Elizabeth retorted sharply, “Mr.

James, if you find my choices so unbearable, why involve yourself in this audition where Ms.

Sandra and | compete?”

Elijah’s irritation grew as Elizabeth stood up for Stewart, palpably cooling the air around him.

“Compete?” he sneered, dismissing her words as if she had made a laughable comment.
