Chapter 69
Chapter 69
“Miss, here are the things that need your signature,” Anna said as she handed Izzy another stack of papers.
“Thank you,” Izzy said. She took a few ininutes to review the contents of the documents before signing them.
“This should be good. Have you prepared for our Macaut trip already?” she asked.
“Yes, here's our itinerary and... here's the invitation for the public bid opening grand ceremony.”
Izzy took it and lifted an eyebrow. She never thought the opening bid ceremony would be this grand. It even
indicated a dress code. “Alright, since we are flying tomorrow, you may leave carly today to pack up.”
Anna smiled. “Alright.”
Seeing Anna perk up, Izzy smiled. She placed the invitation on Her desk. This time, Anna would be with her, but
this was supposed to be a trip she and Calen were going to take. Luckily, CEO Weiss was smart enough not to
force them into a team together. If she’s right, Calen would still join the event, but they are not going to stay in
the shotel or fly on the splane. CEO Weiss made sure that he stayed out of Izzy's sight.
She pursed her lips and started massaging her head. After what felt like forever, she got up and went to the
couch to open the lunch box Liam had prepared for her.
Izzy opened the lunch box to reveal a simple yet appetizing meal: beef with broccoli over a bed of steamed white
rice. The savory aroma made her realize just how hungry she was. She reached for her phone, snapping a quick
picture of the food before typing out a message to Liam.
[Thanks for the food. It looks great. Don’t wait up fortonight-1 might be hlate. Still have a ton to do.]
She hit send and placed the phone back on the table, reaching for the utensils. She took her first bite, savoring
the tender beef and crisp broccoli. A moment later, her phone buzzed. She picked it up, expecting a routine
acknowledgment, but instead found a reply that made her frown.
[I'll see you for dinner then.]

Izzy frowned as she stared at the kissing emoji after his text. What does he mean by that? Was he trying to send
her a kiss? Izzy set the phone down with a sigh, tapping her finger on the screen absentmindedly. Why was she
overthinking a text message? She muttered under her breath,“Why do | even tell him these things?” She rolled
her eyes and focused back on her meal.
After she finished her meal, she returned to the tasks she needed to complete before her Macau trip the next
day.
“Miss...” Anna interrupted her thoughts.
“Yes?” |zzy asked.
“Someone-someone has been trying to get in to see you,” Anna said as she stepped closer to Izzy's desk.
Izzy glanced up from her work. “Who is it?”
“She’s claiming to be your aunt. Security stopped her at the entrance,” Anna explained.
Izzy's expression hardened as realization dawned. “Amalia,” she muttered under her breath. She closed the file
she was reviewing and stood. “Bring her to the boardroom. Record everything and have security on standby to
call the police if needed.”
Anna hesitated for a moment. “She’s causing a scene downstairs, she added, her brow furrowed.

Izzy nodded curtly. “I figured as much. Just do as | said.”

Anna gave a short nod and left the room. Izzy took a deep breath, steadying herself before sitting back down to
organize her desk. A few moments later, Anna returned.
“She’s in the boardroom now,” Anna said, standing by the doorway.
Izzy rose, adjusted her blazer, and headed for the boardroom without another word. Her heels clicked against the
floor as she walked briskly down the hallway. She knew exactly why Amalia was here and she couldn't wait to
find out what gwas she planning to do in front of Izzy today!
When she reached the door, she paused for a moment, gripping the handle tightly before pushing it open. Inside,
Amalia was pacing near the long conference table, her arms gesturing wildly as she muttered to herself. She
turned sharply when Izzy entered.
Izzy stepped in, closing the door behind her. She glanced at the small camera in the corner, ensuring it was
positioned correctly to record. Then she sat in a nearby chair, crossed her legs, and looked directly at Amalia.
“Well?” Izzy asked, a smile appearing on her face. “What do you want?”
Amalia’s eyes widened. “Is that how you greet the woman who raised you?” she asked, stepping closer to the
table. Izzy snorted, leaning back in her chair. “The woman who raisedusing my parents’ money? Don't flatter
yourself.”
Amalia’s expression shifted immediately, her jaw tightening before she forced a deep breath. She walked closer
to Izzy and clasped her hands together. “Izzy...that’s not my point. I'm just... I'm a little anxious. That's all.” Then
she sat in the chair next to Izzy.
However, Izzy's face remained impassive, her gaze steady as she watched Amalia fidget. When she didn’t
respond, Amalia reached out to gently take Izzy's hand.
“You've been staying away for so long,” Amalia said. “When are you coming back to the house? You look so
much skinnier. Are you eating well?”
Izzy pulled her hand back slowly, folding it in her lap. She didn’t say a word.
Amalia’s shoulders slumped. Almost immediately, her lips began to tremble. Tears welled in her eyes as she
pressed a hand to her forehead. “I understand,” she said, her voice started breaking. “If you've decided to cut
ties with us, | understand. | know I've made mistakes-so many mistakes. But, Izzy...”

“I can’t stop blaming myself,” she added. “Everything that’s happened... it's all my fault. | tried my best, but |
failed you. | failed your parents.”
Amalia sniffled, wiping her eyes with a trembling hand. She looked down at the table, shaking her head. “If |
could go back and change things, | would. | swear | would. | just wanted to make sure you were taken care of. |
thought | was doing the right thing...”
Izzy tilted her head slightly, her eyes narrowing. She didn’t move or speak as she let the silence fill the room.
When she
louder. didn’t answer, Amalia’s sobs grew
Amalia peeked up at her, her tears streaking her face. “Please, Izzy. If you can’t forgive me, at least don’t hate
me. I've done everything for you, for this family. You must understand that, right?”
However, Izzy only responded with a smile. “Are you done?”
The question cut through the room like a knife. Amalia’s sobs faltered. She blinked rapidly, unsure how to
respond. “Because if you're finished,” 1zzy continued, “I have work to do. Or did you actually have something
important to say?”

Amalia’s lips parted as if to speak, but no words cout of her mouth.
“Or did you really think this little crying act would still fool me? Izzy said, a hint of a smirk forming. “I know you
look down on me, but even you can’t believe I'm stupid enough to fall for it after everything you've done.
Right?”
