Chapter 36
Pheobes POV.
The rain hit hard against the windows rattling the latches with their ferocious anger. The thunder cracked loudly
sending a bright, blue strike of lightning flashing out side blinking through the closed drapings.
| paced the length of my father’s townhouse drawing room in absolute anger and helplessness. Two things that |
hated to feel. | couldn't begin to fathom how | had landed myself in such a situation after all my years of hard
work and effort to keep things under my control and run the course that | willed it to.
Another cra ck of lightening clashed loud enough forto feel it reverberate through my bones. The harsh
weather outside mimicked my inner feelings to the T.
Who the hell did Dante think he was? He could not just throwout of his life on a whim and 1 would see to it
that he isn’t successful. | had only left his htemporarily to give him a sense of false victory but | would be
back, digging myself firmly in to his life until | extracted as much of his wealth as | had intended on doing.
If any one was to be blamed for this mess it was Sophia. That bit ch thought that she could out smartby
telling Dante the truth about who had saved him when we were younger. As if that mattered to any one but her.
She was growing too bold for her place, too c unning like a bird whose wings were growing too big and in need of
a good cl*pping.
| should have ended her when | had the chance but Sophia proved to be tougher than I thought like a c ockroach
that refused to be killed by even the harshest of chemicals.
Dante really thought that he could tossaside for her but he forgets that it was | who made him remove
Sophia from his life with great ease and | could do it again just as easily. | just needed to figure out a way to get
him where | wanted him with leverage so good that he has no choice but to give in to my demands.
Felix shifted in the settee that he had been lounging in sipping on a glass of scotch neat like he had no care in
the world. He, too, had failed to carry out a single simple task correctly and for that reason Sophia walks
healthily at present and not lay drowned and lifeless at the bottom of that da mn lake.
His return had caughtoff guard with how untimely it was but it only placed a lot more pressure onto see
my plans through. | thought | had plenty of tto do what | needed to but with Felix out of prison and out and
about again, it changed a lot of things. The leisure to take things slowly. and at an easy pace no longer existed.
“You've walked a trail in to that carpet, Phoebe. Come, sit byand enjoy a drink to relax.” Felix called over his
glass causingto pause in my path and glance at how calm he seemed to be sipping on his drink while | was

“How can you be so calm, Felix? Do you not see the gravity of the situation?! If | cannot figure out a way to get
back in to Dante Crawford's life then out entire plans together are impossible.” | snapped at him and he finally
sat up straight understanding just how upset | was by all of this.

“I believe that you will find a way to fix it all.” He responded carefully but it had only madefurious. Must | do
all?
He handed out the last sip of his drink over tobut | looked at it like it was poison because, at present, it kind
of was. The pregnancy test revealed what | suspected this morning but | had not told Felix yet.
“I can’t. I'm pregnant.” | muttered and continued my pacing thinking about how complicated this was all
becoming.
“What? You are- Pheobe, do not joke around. Are you really pregnant?!” Felix jumped up from the settee and
crept up on me.
His hands gripped myaems excitedly before he crushedto his chest on a hug. | patted his chest. trying to
settle him down but his glee knew no bounds.
“This is incredible. We've always spoke about starting a family of our own.” His hands cupped either side of my
face before he pressed his I*ps to mine in a brief k*ss
| shrugged out of his hold entirely. My inner feelings and his were currently not on the spage and it was only
serving to fuel my anger.
“Are you not happy that we are going to be having a baby?” Felix asked, confused by my reaction. It was
annoying stimes how hard it was for him to understand me.
“It isn’t that. | am beyond happy but there is a lot to set in place before | can embrace things and relax. We need
money, a lot of it. Money that we do not have. Having a baby is a huge cost. It only drivesharder to get back
on to Dante's life.” Finally, at long last, Felix began to understand why | was so worked up.
He nodded slowly. “Our attempt at taking out his ex wife was not successful. Now she’s becswhat of
torn in our plans. His gruff voice was music to my ears as he said what | wanted to hear.
“Exactly. I'm surprised there has been no talk of an investigation about the attack.” | pursed my I*ps but then
shrugged the thought off.
“Well, there better not be.” Felix grunted, running a hand nervously through his hair. “if | get imprisoned again, |
don’t think I'll be given the liberty of release again.”
| shook my head. “Never mind that now. Our primary concern is figuring out how | can weave my way back in to
Dante’s life in n a way that he cannot kickout.” It felt like | was saying the sthing over and over again
and getting no where.
Before Dante and Sophia traced their steps back to each other, | needed to do sthing. The both of them
were already acting a bit strange and Dante’s willingness to kickto the curve toldall that | needed to
know.
“I know exactly what you need to do.” Felix looked atat the stmy gaze snapped to his. His eyes
danced with evil and | knew that he was on to sthing good. “You need a way to get to Dante that he can’t
refuse and has no other option but to keep you around. The opportunity is perfect.” He rambled on and |
narrowed my eyes at him.

“Just get on with it. What is the plan?!” | demanded to know not caring for the run around.
70%
Felix threwlook like he could not believe that | hadn't figured this out yet. “Tell him that you are pregnant but
let him believe that this child is his. He would have no other option but to care for you and cover the upkeep of
your lifestyle and it gives you tforce his hand at marriage then we're set.” Felix concluded and | could feel
my face split in to two at the grin that over took my face.
“That is a genius idea, Felix! | can’t believe that | hadn't thought of it sooner. Dante may not be ast favourable to
we spoke about it the more fool proof this plan was proving to be.
Dante may be ruthless in his ways but | knew him well enough to know that he would never turn away his own
blood. It was why | had to make sure that Sophia didn’t see a fruitful pregnancy. Dante would have never left her
had he known that she was actually carrying his child.

“I only need a few months. Dante and | will get married and before the baby is born | will demand a divorce
which he will be happy to give me. Then | will seek to take half of every thing he owns.” The more | spoke about
this plan the greater relief | began to feel. It was bordering on to euphoria at this point.
“You should go to him tomorrow morning. First thing in the morning. Play the part of the sick. pregnant woman to
get his sympathy. He suggested and | nodded already ahead of him. | knew just how | was going to execute this
and dare any one cin my way.
The very next morning. | had awoken and set out to carry out my task. | purposely didn’t apply any make up to
givethat morning sickness look which hadn't kicked in yet. | hailed a cab which was sthing | hated doing
and it was why | couldn't wait to get back in to Dante’s life so | could enjoy the wealth and power without feeling
like a poor peasant.
| shook my head focussing on the positives as | scrolled through my phone but what | found circulating the media
this morning was enough to stir my anger.
The Vanderbilt Ball was two days ago and Dante had attended as he did every year but this the was
photographed with none other than Sophia. That bi tch was more cu n ning and conniving than | had ever
expected her to be. Their b*dy language was stiff and it showed sdiscord between. them which | could live
with but all of that didn’t matter because soon enough what ever Sophia thought she had with Dante would
cto a dead end.
The car pulled up to Dante’s house and | spotted his car still in his front yard. | got up to the front door and
knocked on the door like a da mn visitor. Stay calm, Phoebe. The last thing | needed right now was to lose my
temper and ruin the plan.
| found Dante in his study and he was less than pleased to see me. Not that | expected a warm welcor
flowers at my feet but he was visible displeased by the sight of me.
This was it. | needed to give the most convincing act of my life. | sniffled when | saw him, kept my head low like |
was in shambles with out him, professed my love for him over and over again then, when he was about to berate
me, | blurted out the news watching the rug get pulled from beneath his feet as he processed all of it.
| could feel the victory already mount within me.
