Chapter 1656
Sherry nodded.
“Don’t worry. It doesn’t matter whether I get married now or later on, but one thing I can say for sure is that I’m not going to be coming back here,” Carl suddenly added.
Sherry shot a look at him.
Carl smiled charmingly at her and seemed to be waiting for her to say something.
Sherry was made slightly uncomfortable by the way he was looking at her and quipped, “It doesn’t matter to me whether you come back or not, so why are you telling me this
anyway?”
Besides, he was able to easily intimidate Madam Sager and the others with just a little bit of posturing, thus there was nothing she needed to worry about.
Carl’s eyes darkened ever so slightly, but he quickly collected himself and smiled nonchalantly again.
“I just wanted to tell you that, no reason.” As he said this, he gently grazed Sherry’s cheeks with the tips of his finger.
Sherry was upset by this. “Carl, what’s your problem?”

Sherry was speechless. All she did was roll her eyes in response.
Then, she went towards the garden, and Carl immediately followed her.

It was a very large garden. At one glance, one could immediately notice that it was very. well taken care of. There was a vast variety of flowers and trees, and the bushes
were delicately trimmed.
Sherry barely had time to delight in the tranquility of the garden before the butler showed up to inform them that the banquet had started and that they should head inside.
With that, they went into the banquet hall.
It was a classic banquet.
Sherry sat between Lisa and Carl, and seated at the same table with them were Madam Sager, Ron, and Anne.
They were still rather malevolent toward Sherry but knew better than to directly express their attitude with Carl and Lisa at the table. Still, they would make subtle jabs at her
from time to time and make remarks about how she lacked womanly grace.
Sherry barely paid attention to their remarks as she turned her mind to the food.
At one point, she felt the urge to go to use the toilet.
“Aunt Lisa, I’m going to the toilet,” she told Lisa.
“I’ll go with you,” Lisa said prepared to rise from her seat.
Sherry hurriedly stopped her, “No, it’s alright. I can go by myself.”
Lisa insisted on going with her.
That was when Carl interjected. He rose from his seat and came behind Sherry. “I was just about to go to the toilet too. I’ll go with her instead.”
Lisa sat back down and issued a command, “Alright, make sure you stay with her.”
“I got it.” Carl nodded and took Sherry’s hand.
Seeing as they were in front of a gathering of relatives and friends of the Sagers, Sherry knew better than to fling his hand away. She went with the flow and let herself be led
away.

Carl did not enter the men’s toilet but leaned against the wall next to the women’s toilet instead and motioned like an usher. “Go on, I’ll wait for you here.”
Sherry asked suspiciously, “I thought you wanted to go to the toilet.”
“I had a mild stomachache just now, but now I’m fine.”
Sherry shot a skeptical look at him, then she left it at that and went into the women’s toilet.
After she finished her business, she nudged the door open and went to the sink to wash her hands. That was when she stumbled into Ada who happened to be using the toilet
as well.
She was Ron’s niece and would also frequently visit the Sagers. Madam Sager was rather fond of her.
Sherry had heard some rumors from Lisa that Madam Sager intended to pair Ada with Carl. She recalled meeting Ada several times in the past though most of their
encounters were at Carl’s office.
She could tell that Ada had a thing for Carl.
As soon as they made eye contact, Ada scowled and glared at Sherry, completely unprovoked.
Sherry ignored her entirely and only swept a passing glance at her before walking toward the sink.
