Chapter 1008
Elijah seemed confused. "Vicky, what's wrong?"
She snapped out of it. "It's fine."
Elijah wanted to say something, but soon noticed the wound on her lips and the marks on her neck.
Vicky noticed his gaze and instinctively covered her neck with her hand.
They were both adults, and Elijah immediately knew what those marks meant.
Since he and Vicky were not actually dating, he did not question what happened the night before and simply
cleared his throat, "Ahem... Vicky, why don't I get you a scarf?"
Vicky did not want others to see the marks on her either, so she nodded. "Thank you."
"You're welcome."

As they turned a corner, Missus Harrisons ran into them and exclaimed in surprise, "Breakfast is prepared. Why
haven't you come downstairs yet?"
"We need to go back and get something. We'll be down in a moment."
"Hurry up, then. Don't keep our guests waiting downstairs for too long."
"Okay."
Missus Harrisons was about to leave when she caught sight of the wounds on Vicky's neck and lips, causing her to
freeze in her tracks. "Vicky, what happened to you..." Missus Harrisons seemed to realize something and a look of
joy appeared on her face. "Oh my, it seems the Harrison family is about to have a new child!"
Vicky and Elijah were both stunned.
Elijah was about to explain, but Missus Harrisons patted him on the shoulder. "I have something to attend to. You
two remember to come downstairs as soon as you can."
With that said, Missus Harrisons walked away happily. Vicky watched her disappearing figure, feeling a heavy cloud
of gloom shrouding her heart.
Vicky found a scarf and touched up her makeup before going downstairs with Elijah to have breakfast.
The Harrisons' household was livelier than usual today.
It was Old Madam Harrisons' birthday celebration the day before, and some of the guests who traveled from afar
found it inconvenient to return home. Therefore, the Harrisons had prepared guest rooms for them to stay in
overnight.
At that moment, the guests who stayed over from the previous night were sitting at the dining table, engaged in
conversation.
Vicky and Elijah approached them, exchanging greetings with numerous guests.

The guests laughed and said, "It's normal for young people to sleep in. We're not hungry."
Someone with keen eyes noticed Vicky was wearing lipstick and the swollen lips she struggled to hide. They teased,
"It won't be long before the Harrisons family welcomes a new member. Old Madam Harrison, you'll get to hold your
greatgrandchild soon."
Old Madam Harrison waved her hand toward Vicky and said, "Vicky, come and sit next to Grandma."
Vicky complied and walked over.
Old Madam Harrison was especially fond of Vicky and always made sure that Vicky sat beside her during family
gatherings.
As soon as Vicky sat down next to Old Madam Harrison, the elderly woman held her hand and smiled. "Vicky, work
hard with Elijah and bring our Harrisons family a great-grandchild. Boy or girl doesn't matter. Grandma doesn’t
have a preference."
The wealthier and older the family was, the more they favored male descendants over females. Old Madam
Harrisons' words made Vicky feel both moved and guilty at the same time.
