Ethan’s face fell and he hung up. The fact that someone else heard that side of Alice filled Ethan with the urge to hit
someone.
Ethan turned his attention to Alice, who was staring at him. Her eyes were still glistening, perhaps because she was
suddenly woken up. One look at her eyes was enough to fill Ethan with desire. And her voice…
Still confused from waking up, she asked, “What are you doing?”
She didn’t sound as seductive as just now, but she still sounded soft. Her grandmother came from Southriver, and
Alice spent a big portion of her childhood with her grandmother, so she got some of her accent. Most of the time,
she would keep it hidden, but now that she had just awoken, her accent came out naturally.
The sound of her voice made Ethan’s desire flare even more, and he looked at her plump lips. After they got
married, he went straight to work, only coming back today. This was their nuptial night, so to speak, and his kissing
his wife was par for the course.
He went straight for the kiss, but when he leaned over, Alice frowned. “Something smells rancid. Smells like a

Ethan snapped out of it, finally remembering that he only came to wipe off the scar on Alice’s face, but he failed.
Through the trail of the scent, Alice noticed the bottle of elixir that Ethan didn’t have time to get rid of. “What’s that
you’re holding? What does that do?”
Alice was a smart woman. She might be groggy moments after she woke up, but now she had sobered up and her
brain was functioning normally. She remembered that when the phone call woke her up, she felt Ethan rubbing her
face. It was why she told him to go lighter. “You were going to use that to get rid of my scar,” she replied, no longer
sounding soft. She said it as a statement and not a question.
Ethan pursed his lips but said nothing. That was the truth. Things would be simpler if the scar was gotten rid of, but
he failed. That made things very complicated.
“But you failed, didn’t you?” Alice frowned. She knew they only got married because of Caroline. They had signed
an agreement that they would get divorced in six months and then she would leave. She wouldn’t step out of line,
disturb him, or pry. We had a deal, so why did he try to find out my secrets? And in my sleep too.
Alice had no idea what drug Ethan used, but her master told her that only a Gregorias would know how to remove a
disguise that was put on using the Gregorias Family’s disguising technique. It couldn’t be removed by just any drug.
As a member of the Gregorias Family, it was a rule that the disguising technique was never to be given away easily.
That rule was stricter when it came to the ways of taking off that disguise. No matter where or when, no member
of the family was allowed to tell anyone how to remove the disguise.
“You think I’m ugly, don’t you?” Alice didn’t know why Ethan did this. She thought he wouldn’t be fazed by the scar,
since they weren’t a real couple anyway. Moreover, the marriage would only last six months. After that, she would
be just another stranger to him.
Ethan froze, but he didn’t answer. He had no experience in love, but some part of his mind told him this question
was difficult to answer. It seemed like whatever he said would be wrong. I did come to get rid of her scar, and I
can’t deny that. What’s worse, I failed. Everything’s wrong at the roots. There’s no way I can salvage this.
Despite his lack of experience in love, Ethan had a brilliant mind and knew he had to escape this situation. He
covered Alice’s eyes and slowly closed them up. “It’s nothing. Go to sleep.”
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmAlice was flabbergasted. Does he think I’m a baby? Not even Caroline would let this slide just like that. Out of shock,
Alice blinked. Ethan felt her eyelashes brushing against his hand, tickling him. The sensation traveled from his hand
to his heart, and he pushed down on her eyes slightly.
Even though she couldn’t see anything, Alice didn’t forget about her question. “If you think my scar is unsightly, I
can always stay away from you whenever you show up.”
“I don’t think it’s ugly,” he said. It wasn’t a lie. He didn’t think it was ugly, but he did think it was fake.
Alice pouted. “Then why did you try to wash it off? And in the dead of the night too.”
Ethan heaved a sigh. I knew it. No matter what my answer is, it will still be wrong. However, he wondered why he
couldn’t wash it off. “I can’t answer this with Caroline around. Let’s take this to the master bedroom,” he whispered,
looking at the sleeping Caroline. There was a hint of coaxing in his voice.
“It’s alright. You don’t have to explain anything. It’s late, so you should go to sleep. Close the door on your way out,”
Alice declined. There’s no need for him to explain, and in the master bedroom too. She turned her back on Ethan
and held Caroline in her arms, going back to sleep. Not even Alice noticed it, but she didn’t have much of a guard
up around Ethan. She was always relaxed whenever he was around.
Ethan looked at them quietly. An indescribable feeling filled his heart, and in the end, he went back to the master
bedroom alone.
