Chapter 66

Cordy’s heart skipped a beat.

She would be lying if she said she was not emotional.

Even so, she composed herself and asked quietly, “But you’d do that for anyone, won’t you?”

As in, he would sacrifice himself readily for all his women!

“Just you,” John declared solemnly.

“Are you saying that I’m special?” Cordy asked.

John raised a brow, clearly sensing that it was a loaded question.

Before he could answer, however, she changed the subject since it was his private life.

And she was in no position to ask.

“Why did you suddenly show up at the production plant?” she asked.

“Walter told me that you were going. I was worried you’d get hurt, so I went for a look.” John replied.

“And I made it just in time.”

Otherwise…

John did not want to imagine how terrible he would feel if it was Cordy laying in this bed instead. His

gaze turned cool right then.

“My father put them up to this,” Cordy admitted. “He never wanted me in charge of Starstream Group,

and he gave me as much trouble as he could to oust me.”

“Do you need my help?”

“I told you because I don’t want you to interfere,” Cordy said earnestly.

As John narrowed his eyes, Cordy sharply picked up on his intentions and her gaze turned cold as

well.

“I’ll definitely get payback for you! Those who must be punished will not be spared!

She had had it with the Sachs-even if they had wounded her so grievously in the past, she had never

thought to seek vengeance because she was a Sachs too.

They would have been fine if they stayed within each other’s boundaries and not meddled with each

other’s business.

But her compromise clearly did not make them restrain themselves.

Instead, they were getting worse.

And she had no reason to be kind toward people who did not know what was good for them. “Fine,”

John said.

He certainly respected her decision and would tolerate her as long as it was all within his control.

Cordy’s phone suddenly started to ring just then.

She checked the caller ID, then headed to the balcony to answer it. “Vince.”

“Ms. Sachs? I’ve already given a statement. The rioting workers and Gene Larkin-the one who tried to

hit you-were all detained. The police are asking if you’ll be settling this out of court.”

“No, and make it very clear to them,” Cordy said bluntly. “We’re taking this to court.”

“Yes, Ms. Sachs.”

Once Cordy hung up, she could not help clutching at her stomach, which was inevitably hurting

because she had not eaten for a day.

She took a deep breath before entering the ward again and sat beside John’s bed.

“You should sleep,” Cordy told him.

“Are you going to leave when I do?” he asked.

Cordy pursed her lips-she was certainly planning to.

She needed to eat, and there was a mess at the plant to resolve.

“I’m staying with you.” She ultimately relented.

At the very least, she should be staying with him for the day.

The answer seemed to satisfy John, and he closed his eyes, sleeping comfortably.

Cordy’s phone rang again just then-she quickly turned on her silent mode, worried that she would wake

John.

Still, she hung up the instant she saw that it was from Simon Sachs.

She naturally knew that Simon must have received word that she would not be settling out of court, and

he must want to resolve the matter with her in private.

However, she turned off her phone right then-she was not about to let him have what he wanted!

“Ms. Sachs.” Randy suddenly approached her, greeting her softly and respectfully.

“Yes?”

“Please, come eat,” he said.

Cordy did a double take, so Randy explained, “Mr. Levine had me prepare it for you.”

Cordy could not help turning toward John right then, but he was still fast asleep.

He noticed that her stomach was hurting? But how?

She did not even let it show…

Once again, she was hit with an unusual feeling.

But in the end, they were very different people, and she could not hold blind faith in anyone ever again.

Even if she felt moved, even sentimental, she could hardly reciprocate his feelings.
