Chapter 229
Yasmine and Morgan were in conversation when Chuck and Lucy approached. Their faces were slightly flushed.
With a knowing smile, Yasmine asked, "What's going on with you two?"
Chuck didn't hold back. He took Lucy's hand and said, "Ms. Sanchez, Lucy and | are together now."
"Together? So soon?" Yasmine teased. They had been out for barely half an hour, how did they end up together
so quickly? Yasmine looked at Lucy with concern. She was worried Lucy might get hurt, considering how innocent
she was. Although she had interacted with Chuck before, she didn't know him well enough.
Lucy shyly walked over to Yasmine and politely picked up the bowl of soup, getting ready to have it when Chuck
stopped her. "It's cold. I'll make you another bowl," he said.
Chuck took the bowl of soup away immediately. Lucy glanced at Yasmine and gave an embarrassed smile, "Just a
moment ago..."
Half an hour ago, Lucy found her path blocked by Chuck. "Why are you afraid of this?" Chuck asked.
Lucy shook her head firmly and said, "If I like you and you don't likeback, that would be so pitiful. To be safe,
| have to keep my distance."
As soon as she finished speaking, Chuck laughed. "Dummy." He placed his hand on Lucy's head. "Why don't we
give it a shot together?" Surprisingly, Lucy agreed without thinking.
Listening to her happily recount her recent experiences, Yasmine felt genuinely happy for her.

Yvette was crying out in pain at the hospital, with Selena and Xavier by her bedside. The officers who originally

away. Yvette clutched Xavier's hand, "Xavier, it hurts so much!"
"Yvette, the doctors said you're alright," Xavier said, a bit puzzled. He had asked in the doctor's office three
times to make sure nothing was missed, but the thorough examination had shown nothing unusual. Even the
doctor couldn't figure out what was causing Yvette's pain, and questioning her wasn't helping.
Selena chimed in supportively, "You've
never been through childbirth, you wouldn't know! I've experienced it. It's common to feel discomfort when
pregnant, it's all normal. Of course! Especially at such a crucial time, Yvette definitely can't go to jail. The
conditions are so harsh there, Xavier, aren't a worried at all? She's carrying
ur child too!"
Xavier acted like he didn't recognize his mother anymore. "So you're pushing Helen to

Selena, feeling a bit embarrassed, said, "Xavier, don't put it so bluntly. The family has already paid a heavy price

do you remember what you said about her? Didn't you also say that she should learn slessons?" "Mom!
Don't forget, Helen is also your child," Xavier objected.
"I know, but don't forget, I'm doing all of this for you," Selena replied with a stern face. She couldn't understand
why Xavier insisted on having Yvette captured.

"Mom, don't blXavier, It's all my fault for being too timid to admit my mistakes, which led to Yoselin getting
taken away. It's only right for Xavier to be upset with me. Also, Helen is truly innocent, and she must have been
miserable in the psychiatric hospital these past few days. It's all on me," Yvette said, bursting into tears.
Xavier, seeing her crying so pitifully, felt his heart soften for a moment. There she lay on the stark white hospital

complexion pallid and her hands protectively cradling her stomach, yet she was still apologizing to him with
deep remorse. He immediately sat by her bedside, his voice softening, "Yvette, don't cry anymore. | could never
hate you-it's my fault." Yvette, hearing his gentle words, immediately threw herself into his arms, hugging him
tightly to grasp the last bit of warmth. She was scared, terrified that after being sent to prison, she'd be marked
as guilty and feared whether Xavier would still like her. Just then, a commotion was heard from the entrance of
the ward. Xavier helped her up as she hurriedly wiped away her
tears.
Jack and Melissa walked in with grim expressions. Melissa pushed Xavier aside, exclaiming, "Yvette, my poor
daughter! You're pregnant, and your husband is rushing to throw you into prison." She gave Xavier a sharp glare,
while Jack, with a face like thunder, turned to Selena and said, "Mrs. Flynn, would you care to explain what's
going on here? Why did my daughter suddenly experience stomach pains and end up in the hospital? And what's
with the police officers at the door?"

Xavier noticed Selena's awkward expression and took over, saying, "The police cto arrest someone,
claiming they're involved in inciting a crime. This is a serious charge."
Yvette clutched Melissa's hand tightly, "Mom, it really wasn't me! | didn't incite anyone, | swear!"
Melissa looked at her daughter with a heavy heart, "Xavier, she's your wife and she's carrying your child. Can't
you protect her properly?"
"Mom, the police showed up at our front door to arrest someone. | want to protect her," Xavier said, his tone a
bit urgent. Yvette tugged at Melissa's sleeve, speaking with a wounded tone, "Mom, don't blhim. Xavier
treatsreally well."
Selena chimed in enthusiastically, "Don't worry, Melissa. Now that Yvette is married to Xavier, she's like a
daughter to me. Besides, she's expecting, so of course, I'll take good care of her."
Jack and Melissa exchanged a worried look, finding it hard to believe. "What should we do now?" Melissa still felt
protective of her daughter, not wanting her to endure the hardship of prison.
Xavier assured, "Don't worry, Dad and Mom. I'll do everything in my power to get Yvette out. But before that, she
needs to/ stay in the hospital for observation."
Selena looked at Xavier approvingly. This should have been done a long tago.
Inside the psychiatric hospital, ever since Helen's failed suicide attempt, she had becthe focus of intense
observation. The doctors were extra cautious when prescribing her sleeping pills, ensuring they were secured to
prevent anyone from attempting to steal them to commit suicide again. Helen sat expressionless in the
cafeteria, eating her meal as the news about Irene and Yonas played on TV. "Crescent Isle is still in the
development phase, but we know that the White Group and the Russell family will be collaborating on this
project..."
Her gums itched with frustration, yet she was surrounded by nurses and felt trapped, unable to lash out at the
White Group and the Russell family. Irene was truly formidable; she never hesitated to utilize someone to their
fullest, and discarded them mercilessly when they were no longer of use.
