Melvin never expected the bombshell that Jocelyn would walk into a bridal boutique the moment she returned.
He had restrained himself from seeking her out for so long, only to be blindsided by such a surprise.
After two years, he still took everything for granted.
Jocelyn wondered if he ever got over his mental problem.
Before Jocelyn could utter a word, Castiel strolled in from outside and directly addressed her, “Have you finished trying on the
dress? The kid's crying.”
All eyes instantly turned toward Castiel.
Caught off guard, Jocelyn quickly responded, “Just a sec.”
She hurried into the changing room, escaping the suffocating tension that felt like a funeral pyre outside.
Castiel stood calmly, waiting for Jocelyn.
Melvin was now thoroughly confused. He glanced at Harrison, who shared his bewilderment, then back at this stranger.
“Who are you?” Melvin asked.
Castiel lazily lifted his eyes to meet Melvin's, pointed to himself and asked, “Me?”
“What's your relationship with Jocelyn?” Melvin pressed further.
Harrison too was eager to know.
Castiel showed a hint of disdain, as if Melvin wasn't worth his time.
At that moment, Ursula walked in.
She was taken aback to find three men inside. She quickly sidled up to Harrison, took his hand and whispered, “I was just in the
restroom. What's going on?”
Harrison glanced at Melvin and Castiel, unsure of what to explain.
The big question was Castiel's earlier mention of a child, combined with Jocelyn's reaction. What exactly was her relationship with
this man?
Weren't they just friends?
Melvin, noticing Ursula holding Harrison's hand, his brow furrowed.
So, who was Jocelyn marrying?
This man?
Melvins eyes returned to Castiel.
“Jocelyn, you ready?” Castiel called out, never casting a glance at Melvin.
“Almost,” cJocelyn's reply.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtCastiel checked the time, “The nanny said our son is crying at home. He must be missing you.”
“Oh. Right away.”
“Son?” Ursula frowned at Harrison.
He was just as clueless.
Jocelyn, now changed, felt their piercing stares and knew she had to make a quick exit.
She apologized to Ursula and Harrison, “Sorry, | have to head hnow. About the bridesmaid dress, | can cback another day
to try it on, or maybe you could deliver it to my place? I've got to run.”
Jocelyn was desperate to flee.
Castiel caught her wrist, “No rush, mind your steps.”
Taking a deep breath, Jocelyn allowed Castiel to lead her out of the bridal boutique.
“What in the world just happened?” Ursula was lost, unaware of what she'd missed.
Harrison shook his head, “No clue.”
Their eyes turned to Melvin, who was probably the most eager to unravel the mystery.
Melvins eyes darkened with anger. He had initially thought Jocelyn was marrying Harrison, but the revelation of another stranger
man was the real bombshell.
He stormed out, but by then, Jocelyn was already in the car, merging into the traffic.
Inside the car, Jocelyn took deep breaths.
Castiel glanced over, “That all you got?”
“You have no idea how suffocating that was,” Jocelyn said, rolling down the window to let the chilly breeze sharpen her senses.
Castiel chuckled, “If that guy who rushed in had a knife, Harrison would have been a goner.”
Jocelyn held her forehead, “Melvin's a loon. After two years, who knows what Layla's done to him.”
“What now?” Castiel inquired, “He won't let this go. And lettell you, my business isn't huge, and it can't take his vendetta.”
Jocelyn glared at him, “We're supposed to be husband and wife, can't you act a bit more considerate to me?”
“Sure, we're 'spouses' and we even have a kid. But | also have a responsibility to my employees and my business. They all rely on
“So what you're saying is, you're afraid I'll drag you down.”
“If I were really scared, | wouldn't have stood up for you just now,” he reassured Jocelyn. “Don't overthink it. We are 'married’, after
all. If he dares to bother you, we can sue him.”
“Besides, unless he wants to destroy his own business. A big-shot jeweler caught meddling in a married woman's life, playing the
homewrecker? If the media gets a hold of that, he'll be skinned alive,” Castiel said with confidence.
Jocelyn’s head buzzed. She hadn't expected Melvin to find her so quickly.
She had hoped he would have given up by now. But the fear she had felt was real.
If he could find out she was in the bridal shop so quickly, then he could dig up everything about Castiel in no time.
“Don't worry. He won't do anything rash,” Castiel tried to soothe her. “Let's stop by the market and pick up sfish and shrimp
on our way home.”
“Okay.”
After shopping, they returned to their villa together.
As they entered, the loud cries of a child filled the air.
Jocelyn rushed to scoop up the wailing little baby from the play mat, cooing, “Oh, my sweetheart, why the tears? Did you miss us
that much?”
The child clung to Jocelyn at the sight of her, his cries softening.
“Sir, Jocelyn...” the nanny cout with a bottle, “He was hungry.”
Jocelyn, cradling the baby, took the bottle and checked the temperature. Then she settled on the floor. “Euston, tfor eating.”
The baby’s big, watery eyes looked around, reaching for the bottle and greedily gulping down the milk.
“He was really hungry,” Jocelyn observed, her gaze filled with maternal love.
Castiel sat across from her and told the nanny, “Start preparing dinner.”
"Sure thing, sir," the nanny gripped the grocery bags and headed for the kitchen.
Castiel watched as Jocelyn gently fed his son, "We really should consider hiring a postpartum nurse."
"Yeah," Jocelyn agreed, "Lila is overwhelmed."
"I think having your mom chelp out would be way more reliable than any nurse."
Jocelyn shot him a look, "You better keep it together, Castiel, and quit stirring the pot."
"You're the mother here. Having the grandma step in to help would be perfect." Castiel said with a grin that practically begged for
a smack.
"Oh, really? And why don’t you have your mom cover?" Jocelyn shot back.
Castiel zipped his lips, "Forget what | said."
Jocelyn couldn't be bothered with Castiel anymore. Once little Euston finished his milk, she passed the baby over to him.
Castiel took him and began patting the little one’s back to burp him.
Jocelyn sat on the floor, watching Castiel cradle his son. It was really a picture-perfect moment.
Wasn't this just what a hwas supposed to look like?
She took away the bottle to wash it and noticed her phone was bombarded with unread messages, all from Ursula.
Stepping out of the living room, she dialed Ursula back.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmThe call was picked up immediately.
"What on earth have you been up to these past couple of years? Friends, huh? And now there's a baby involved. Spill the beans,
Jocelyn."
Ursula was like a viewer who had skipped to the final episode of a series, where the ending seemed to have nothing to do
with the rest of the story. She was dying to know what had transpired in the meantime.
Jocelyn cleared her throat, "It's a long story."
"How long can it be?" Ursula pressed, "Tell me, what's the deal with you and this Castiel guy?"
"Technically, we're married."
"What?" Ursula almost cursed, but remembered Harrison's repeated reminders to watch her language. She was struggling to hold it
back.
Jocelyn knew Ursula would react like this and said, "Don't make a mountain out of a molehill."
"And this kid?" Ursula asked.
"He's Castiel's son."
Ursula caught the phrasing, "Not yours?"
"No."
Ursula finally breathed a sigh of relief, "You scaredthere. | thought you'd had a child with another man."
Jocelyn was nonchalant, "Even if that were true, it would be perfectly natural."
"Then Melvin would either off himself or cafter you," Ursula exhaled, "You have no idea how terrifying he looked after you left."
Jocelyn fiddled with her feet, "He doesn’t have any right to meddle in my life."
"I get the feeling he's the type to destroy what he can't have. His obsession over you is just too strong," Ursula worried for her, "I
can tell, he's never really let you go."
