The night was quiet. The wind rustled through the branches outside the window, causing the heavy curtains to billow. The weather in April was not too cold. The medicinal scent filled the air as the wind blew into the ward.
Jadie woke up but did not want to face Zach. So, she turned her head to gaze at the billowing curtains. "You don't want me anymore, so why are you still at the hospital? Just go back. | don't need you to take care of me." Zach picked up a medicine from the bedside table. The thick, black liquid inside emitted an unpleasant odor. Upon hearing what Jadie said, he answered, "Okay." Then, he put the medicine back down.
He stood up and checked his wristwatch. "It's 12:12 a.m. now. I'll give you ten minutes to calm down. Think it over, and I'll come back in." "Zach!" Jadie called out to him urgently.
Zach stopped and asked, "Are you calm now?" Jadie bit her lip and nodded, "Yes." Zach sat down by the bedside and tucked her in. "Drink it before it gets cold. I'll take you back after you've finished the intravenous drip. You don't have to rush to school tomorrow. I've already arranged for you to have the day off." Jadie tightly clasped Zach's hand with both of hers. Her face pale, and she pleaded, "Zach, can we just forget what happened earlier? I'm still your girlfriend. Let's not break up, okay? Even if you don't like me now, you might like me in the future. | know you're into girls like Madelyn. | can change for you and become the girl you're into. I'll do anything as long as we don't break up." Having feelings for someone could make a person feel vulnerable. They had gone through so much together since childhood until now. Jadie secretly resolved that she would become his wife in the future, and this was something that would never change.
That was why her voice was both pleading and restrained.
"Jadie, your life has more than just this one choice. What if you meet someone even better than me in the three years of university ahead?" Tears welled up in Jadie's eyes as she shook her head, "No, there will never be anyone better than you." Zach let out a deep sigh, "Nothing is absolute in life. Jadie, can we make a promise? If you don't find anyone you like when you graduate from university, and I'm not married or have no children, we'll get married, okay?" Jadie hesitated, "What if you change your mind?" "I would never lie to you." Seeing no reaction from her, Zach continued, "l want to give you a chance to think it through. Marriage is a lifelong commitment, and | may not be as good as you imagine. Jadie, you know | have important matters to do at Azure Corporation.” Jadie's expression suddenly changed as she remembered why Randall had died. Zach's actions had all been for her. She had accidentally fallen into the pool at the banquet and almost... She nearly drowned, and it was all because of Randall. Later, Zach avenged her by killing Randall. His actions aligned with his goals at Azure Corporation. Zach carried many secrets, and Jadie had never known what they were.
"I-l know, but can you promise me? Please don't be with anyone until I've fallen for someone else, okay? If the time frame is three years, I'm willing to wait these three years and then marry you." A mysterious smile played on Zach's lips. "Okay." "You can't lie to me." "Yes, | won't." Zach might have given her all the patience he had for a lifetime.
