Jacinta shivered in fear at that thought. “Fortunately, I didn’t leave for real, or I’ll be leading Xavier right
to the clue. You should take care of this, then. Remember to erase all traces after that.”
“Don’t worry, Mom. I know what to do. By the way, you said Winnie got back. Did she realize something
was off?”
“No.” Jacinta thought about it and added, “I was packing when she came back, so I was caught by
surprise. However, I’ve made up an excuse, and she bought it readily. I don’t think she suspects me.”
“Okay, I’ll handle the rest. Mom, you must make sure Winnie doesn’t discover anything. After all, Xavier
only listens to her. If she also starts to suspect you, our plans will be in vain.”
“I know. Stuart, I don’t care what you do to Xavier, but you can’t hurt Winnie. She might not be related
to me by blood, but to me, she’s my granddaughter.”
Winnie happened to overhear Jacinta’s last sentence when she stepped out of the bathroom.
She had been thinking about Jacinta when she was taking a shower.
Someone must’ve bullied Granny when I wasn’t around. Otherwise, why would she suddenly want to
return to her hometown alone?
Thus, she quickly took a shower and came out to hear Jacinta talking to someone on the phone.
She asked, “Granny, who are you talking to? Why did you mention my name? Was it the person who
called when I arrived earlier?”
Jacinta didn’t want Winnie to think she was acting suspicious, so she didn’t close the door when she
made the call.

She had no idea Winnie would finish showering in just a few minutes. After all, Winnie would usually
spend half an hour in the shower.
However, she quickly came up with an excuse. “Yes. It’s Abel from my hometown. You know, the one
who guards the door of the shoe factory.”
“Abel?” Winnie remembered who that was. If she wasn’t mistaken, Abel always had romantic feelings
for Jacinta. “Granny, did you pack up to head back because of Abel? Did he ask you to go back?”
That was actually true. As Winnie had that thought, Jacinta played along. “You can put it that way. I
didn’t even have anyone to talk to when you weren’t around. Abel called me a few times, so I chatted
with him. He knew I wasn’t happy with my grandson-in-law and told me that you have your own lives
and that we shouldn’t disturb you. As he offered to keep me company, I thought it was a good idea and
made up my mind. When he called again a while ago, I told him you refused to let me leave. He got
upset, so I chided him for a bit. How could he say that? You’re my granddaughter, and he’s nothing
compared to you. Anyway, I’ve decided to stay. No one can kick me out!”
Winnie was amused. Granny’s decision was pretty hasty. If she wanted to spend the rest of her life with
Abel, she would’ve done that ages ago. I can’t believe she came up with that excuse to not disturb my
life.
Sighing, Winnie said, “Granny, don’t let Abel’s words change your mind! My home is always your home.
As long as you’re willing, I’ll take you with me even if I settle elsewhere.”
…
After dinner, Winnie had a good rest.
She was woken up by her phone ringing the next morning.
Squinting her eyes, she took her phone to discover it was Lucas. At once, she blew her top.
“Lucas Marsh! I hope this is urgent. Otherwise, I’ll hunt you down and beat you up! Do you know what
time it is? It’s not even eight o’clock yet! I dreamed that I just fell asleep, but you woke me up! I woke
up twice—once in my dream, and once in reality! I’m really sleepy!”
Lucas sounded rattled on the other end of the line as he pleaded, “Your Majesty, Ms. Garland, I’m really
sorry! But please prepare to hear what I’m about to tell you. After my sister discovered what happened
to Christopher, she didn’t eat or sleep for the past twenty-four hours. Today, she finally left her room.
However, she’s in a bad condition. Christopher’s death came as a terrible blow to her. All she wants
now is to find his body. She’s insisting on going to Manchernius herself.”
Hearing that, Winnie was wide awake. “Stop her, then. Don’t you know how dangerous Manchernius
is? How can you let her go there?”
“I know!” Lucas answered. “I’ve hidden her passport and ID card. Without these, she cannot go
anywhere. I managed to stop her from going to Manchernius, but I can’t stop her from finding you.”
“What?” Winnie sat up. “Where is she going to find me? Does she know my current address?”
“She might head to your company, Garland Group.”
They were still talking on the phone when Lisanne’s call arrived.
Winnie immediately said, “She’s calling me. I need to go now.”

On the other end of the line, Lisanne’s hoarse voice rang out. “No. I’m starving, so I’m currently eating.
Where are you? I’ll go to you after I finish my food.” She sounded like she had not had a drop of water
for a long time.
“No need. I’ll come to you.” Lisanne’s voice was weak, so Winnie told her to stay put. “Send me your
location, and I’ll come to you now.”
“Okay. I’ll wait for you here. I need to talk to you.”
“Okay!” After the call ended, Winnie soon received Lisanne’s location.
She quickly washed up and left in her car without eating breakfast.
…
It took Winnie half an hour to arrive at her destination.
When she arrived, Lisanne was munching on her pasta hungrily without caring about her image.
Afraid that she would eat too much, Winnie told her, “Eat slowly. Did you finish the empty plates? Why
are you eating so much in one go?”
Lisanne slurped on her soup. “I need to eat to gain energy! Winnie, tell me. Who do you think took
Christopher’s body away? Could it be Harold Horton? How do I find him? I need to get Christopher
back. You must have a way to send me there, right?”
Winnie frowned. “Lisanne, I’m not sure about that, so I won’t be able to provide an answer. However,
things might not go your way even if you were to head there in person. If Harold is still alive, he might
already be in Chanaea to look for me.”
