Chapter 815

The thought of Douglas sent Whitney into affliction. Still, a wry smile appeared on her face, and she replied softly,

"Miss Nicole, it's too complicated between Douglas and me. I..."

Nicole lowered her eyes upon hearing that. Whitney had been with her through thick and thin for so many years, so

she knew Whitney's temperament well. Nonetheless, she wanted to ease her burden. "Whitney, there are things

that, even if you spend your whole life trying to repay, it still won't be enough. So, don't shove yourself into a blind

alley."

Whitney's eyes became moist at her comforting words. It had been such a long time since she had someone to

share things with, especially without fear, that her eyes turned red-rimmed when she heard those words from

Nicole.

Whitney forced a smile on her face, sniffled, and said in a hoarse voice, "I will resolve the matter with Douglas as

soon as possible. You don't have to help me regardless of what happens."

As Nicole could sense something was off from Whitney's words, she lowered her voice and warned Whitney

seriously, "Don't you dare do anything stupid!"

Whitney merely lowered her head as her nails bit fiercely into her palm. She felt a slight tingling pain, which brought

her back to her senses. "Thank you, Miss Nicole." She hung up the phone right after that without a hint of hesitation

for fear that she would unleash her true feelings.

Now that the Campbell Family had become an empty shell, the shareholders would become furious since she could

not repay them. All that was left for her to do was to wait patiently at home to be arrested.

Nicole could not help but feel conflicted when the call was cut off. Whitney had been abroad for a while, and during

that period, she became entangled with Ella's affairs and had no time. Then, she had to deal with Madam Gould's

incident. While she still had no clear picture of what happened, something definitely went wrong with Whitney.

Nicole pursed her lips tightly, and she looked a little unhappy. She knew Whitney well enough to know that she was

unlikely to be able to persuade Whitney to rethink her decision. It also didn't help that she was overwhelmed by her

own affairs. Thus, she had no time to help Whitney with her problems.

Besides, Whitney was right about one thing—she could never get involved with others' relationship matters. Nicole

clenched her phone tightly at the thought. Whatever she couldn't empathize with before, she finally understood

now, given the situation between herself and Colton. There were simply too many things that she could not be in

control of, no matter how badly she wished she could.

She sighed softly before masking her disappointment with an aloof expression.

She was still somewhat absent-minded when she arrived home and did not even respond to Zachary calling out to

her. The moment he saw her looking as if she was deep in thought, he frowned slightly and involuntarily raised his

voice, "Nicole."

her. The moment he saw her looking as if she was deep in thought, he frowned slightly and involuntarily raised his

She only snapped back to her senses and realized that she had been utterly distracted earlier. She blinked and

answered bashfully, "Sorry, I spaced out. What's the matter?"

He smiled at her gently, walked over, and said, "I saw you were lost in thought when you returned. So, I wanted to

ask if anything happened."

Nicole shook her head; she didn't want to burden Zachary with matters without proof because those thoughts could

just turn out to be fantasies. She tugged her lips into a stiff smile as she replied to him in a soft voice, "Nah. I just

went to see William. He told me something, but I can only recall now."

He did not touch upon the subject when he noticed how evasive she was acting. So, he walked up to Nicole and

placed his hand on her shoulder. "If you feel like sharing anything with me, I am here, and I will help you," he

comforted. She knew he was sincere, but as the threads of conspiracy became as tangled as a ball of yarn, even

she herself could not figure out what was transpiring, let alone confide her worries to others.
