Chapter 162

“That dude in the white suit, he’s twenty–six. Not a bad figure, but his face? Meh. He might look good in

a mask, but those tiny eyes of his are hideous“”

“The one in the blue suit, not a good catch. His family favors boys over girls. He has five sisters, any

girl who marries into that family would be under pressure to have a son.”

“Did you see the plump, short guy? He’s been divorced lour times!”

Stella was well–versed in the lives of these rich kids. She often worked with them, so even with masks

on, she could tell who’s who.

We’re lucked away in a corner, chirping excitedly about the men in the room, while waiting for Zora to

show up.

After the ball began, people came to invite Stella and me to dance. We half–heartedly obliged, then

made excuses to sit back down, refusing to get up for anyone else

Suddenly, a commotion arose in the crowd. Alicia quickly got up to see. “Rena, I bet the VIP has

arrived.”

This felt more like a queen choosing her consort than finding a business partner!

The crowd blocked my view I couldn’t see the queen, so I casually sipped my drink, enjoying the

tranquility amidst the noise.

Alicia was more curious, she disappeared into the crowd to get a glimpse of Zora.

She returned after a while, looking disappointed. “She’s covered up well, I could barely see her.”

“Why so curious? You’re not a guy,” I teased, “Are you planning to use your charm to boost the

company’s performance?”

“Ugh, do I look like that kind of person?” Alicia denied immediately.

I laughed, scanning the crowd. A woman appeared, shining like a star.

She wore a black feather mask, her eyes the only visible feature.

Taking a closer look, she was oozing money. Even the diamond hairpin in her hair was pricey.

Let alone the glittering necklace on her chest, the pearl earrings swinging on her ears, the luxurious

bracelet, and the three rings on her hand, I felt like I was looking at a gold mine.

Was this Zora? Alicia and I exchanged a look, both amazed by her extravagance.

It wasn’t that we couldn’t afford the jewelry, but dressing like you’re at a jewelry show? We’d never tried

anything like that.

“Miss Zora, may I have this dance?” A man asked enthusiastically

He wasn’t the only one; at least four or five men were extending their hands.

Zora glanced around and finally chose the most handsome man.

“She sure knows how to pick ‘em,” Alicia sighed, “She picked the best one at first glance!”

I knew she had recognized who the man dancing with Zora was.

Under the lights, people were dancing gracefully, like butterflies in full bloom. It was beautiful yet

somewhat unreal. Suddenly, a familiar figure crossed. the crowd. I didn’t see his outfit clearly, but I was

sure it was him.

Was he here too? Was he here for Zora like the others?

The Whitmore family’s power was undeniable. They didn’t need to rely on Zora like the others.

He wasn’t the type to bow down for business, he preferred to attract people with his power and

benefits.

If he wasn’t here for Zora, then why was he here?

I was stunned until Alicia broke my train of thought. “Ugh, this is so boring. I’d rather be working

overtime at the office!

“Let’s go to the bar and have a drink, no need for overtime.” I grabbed Alicia’s hand and headed

towards the exit.

“Sounds good!”

We left halfway through, took the elevator to the parking lot, and prepared to drive to the bar in Alicia’s

car.

As soon as we got in, Neil’s car drove out from beside us.

He drove slowly and through the window, I could vaguely see his face.

He didn’t notice me and Alicia in the car, and his car disappeared from the parking lot.

Alicia rolled down the window, peeked out, and hesitantly asked me, “Have you been in touch with Neil

these past two years?”

“No, there’s no reason for us to keep in touch.” I said flatly.

“You may not know, but in the last two years, people have been practically wearing down the doorstep

of his house. Even though everyone knows he’s not a good man, there’s still a ton of people hoping to

marry their daughters off to him”

Alicia shook her head. “They just want to take advantage of the Whitmore family’s influence.”

I laughed, “Isn’t that normal? When he and I got married, both our parents had ulterior motives”

Alicia chatted with me while driving. “You’re right, Barbara’s boyfriend’s family is in a similar situation to

hers. They’re discussing marriage, I think it’s

great.”

Much better than that Norman Frost.

Before we knew it, we arrived at a bar. It was packed.

We got a private room upstairs and chatted while drinking.

Alicia called Barbara, and in less than half an hour, Barbara arrived with her boyfriend.

“Renal” Barbara hugged me excitedly, and gave me a warm kiss on the cheek, “We haven’t seen each

other for two years, you heartless woman!”

“We video chat all the time, it hasn’t been two years!” I laughed and looked at the man next to Barbara,

“Is this your boyfriend? Aren’t you going to introduce him?”

“Come, let me introduce you. This is Silas, a 33–year–old geezer. Barbara was more animated than

before, her eyes sparkling. It was clear she was happy. Silas seemed quite sophisticated, the more you

looked at him, the more appealing he became. His steady gaze complemented Barbara perfectly.

He greeted politely. “Nice to meet you, Ms. Finch.”

“Nice to meet you too.” I quickly replied.

The room instantly became livelier with the addition of two people.

Alicia originally planned to call Stella, but considering she had two kids, I stopped her.

Halfway through our drinks, I left the room to use the restroom.

On my way back, I suddenly saw a figure running up the stairs in a panic.

A few men with steel pipes were chasing him, they were clearly thugs..

When I got a good look at the guy being chased, my jaw dropped. Wasn’t that Oscar?!

“Oscar!”

I quickly grabbed Oscar’s hand as he approached. Before the crowd could catch up, I dragged him

back into our private room.

When Alicia and the others saw Oscar, they were stunned.

The sound of commotion echoed from outside as people seemed to be searching room by room.

“Why are they after you?” I asked Oscar.

Oscar shook his head with a bewildered look, “I have no clue. They just popped up out of nowhere and

started attacking me. They even blocked the exit, so I had no choice but to run upstairs.”
