Upon entering Sanford’s apartment, Maggie switched on the lights. As she surveyed the empty space,
a wave of loneliness washed over her unexpectedly.

“Have you arrived?”
But as soon as she hit send, Maggie swiftly withdrew the message.
It seemed suspicious to inquire about his whereabouts, as if she were checking up on him.
After all, they were not in a serious relationship. She should patiently await his attention and avoid
prying into his movements.
Maggie felt a tightness in her chest, and just as she was about to step into the shower, her phone
began to ring.
It was Sanford calling.
Her heart skipped a beat, and she cleared her throat before answering the call.
“Sanford.”
“What message did you send earlier? Why did you withdraw it?” Sanford asked gently.

“Oh, I just wanted to know if you had arrived,” Maggie hastily replied, afraid that he might grow
impatient.
“Yes, I have. I’m currently at the hotel, and I’m leaving to discuss the cooperation,” Sanford responded.
Maggie nodded obediently, though he couldn’t see her.
There was a brief silence on the phone, during which their shallow breaths became audible.
Suddenly, both of them found themselves at a Loss for words.
Maggie tightened her grip on the phone. “Well, take care of yourself. Don’t overexert or drink too
much.”
