Imperial Tech's computer science department has always been top-notch, whereas the University of Maple Grove is renowned for its medical school. So, at the annual intercollegiate computer competition, Imperial Tech almost always clinches the top spot, with Maple Grove typically finishing second.
But this year...
Mr. Jurado couldn't help but steal a glance at Flora. Maybe her presence would shake things up. He had a gut feeling that with Flora on the team, they might just take hthe gold! Mr. Jurado drew an early number, third in line, so it wasn't long before the University of Maple Grove's team took the stage. Brianna, Ivan, Maddox, and the others settled in front of their computers. Below each computer were tablets with styluses for writing their answers. Their responses would be projected for the audience to see.

"Are you sure?" Flora raised an eyebrow at Brianna.
"You know your own level, right?" Brianna was getting impatient. Jules had just praised her, and she wanted to shine, not be dragged down by Flora. After all, they were teammates now, and Flora's poor performance would reflect badly on her too.
"Fine." Flora stopped talking, hooked her foot around the chair leg, and slouched down, looking utterly uninterested.
Brianna thought she was speaking quietly but forgot she was still mic'd up. Their conversation was clearly heard by everyone.
"Brianna actually told Flora not to answer. How bad must she be?" The crowd buzzed with disbelief. But then again, Flora was just a freshman in the medical department. It was indeed a tall order to expect her to handle competition-level problems.
In the judges' seats, Aisha listened and couldn't help but smirk. Soon... Flora was going to embarrass herself.
The competition officially began! The computers, previously displaying a blue screen, now showed a full set of questions that could be navigated with the mouse. The question sets on the screens of Brianna, Maddox, Ivan, and Flora were all identical.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏm"I'll take the first five questions. Maddox, you handle six to ten. Chester, you take eleven to fifteen, and YoYo, you tackle the last five. Skip anything you can't do and focus on what you can!" Ivan rattled off instructions before diving into the questions.
Normally, each team consisted of five members, but with Flora's limited knowledge, they were effectively a person down, putting them at a disadvantage. They had to pick up the pace!
Ivan quickly knocked out questions one to three, spent three minutes on the fourth without any clue, and decisively moved on. The fifth m he only question was tough, he o managed the first sub-question. After finishing, he didn't waste tand scrolled through the remaining questions, marking those he couldn't solve with a question mark. Ivan skipped those with question marks, aiming to answer the ones he could as quickly as possible.
"That Ivan is indeed promising, quite impressive," remarked the judges, nodding in approval as they watched his answers appear on the big screen. Clear-headed and logical, a promising candidate indeed. "That Brianna isn't bad either, logical and meticulous in her approach."
"The University of Maple Grove's team members are quite impressive, except for that judge laughed ha..." a female helplessly. She didn't even know what words to use to describe the situation. Aisha blinked, "Looking at it this way... Flora might just be the dead weight for the University of Maple Grove." X
