689 Unforeseen calamity

While almost everyone needed someone to help them make up their minds, the Dullahans who went to check the clan leader’s shack returned carrying a lot of food.

“It is as the slave trader said. We found a lot of food.” One of the Dullahans announced. When he noticed Labh fainted on the ground, and his mother was about to faint at any second, he became quiet.

The Dullahan was out of the loop and didn’t want to make a mistake. He didn’t want to be the next one on the ground because of the food he carried.

Fortunately for Vincent, the announcement made him appear more credible.

If Vincent spoke the truth about the food in the clan leader’s shack, it also meant Vincent’s request could also be true. Awa’s words about their future in Lusterfall city could also be true as well.

“Awa, my good daughter, are you saying we need to leave this village and go live with the slave... I mean, the humans?” Amie asked.

“Yes, mother. Let’s go get our stuff.” Awa said before asking Zero to help her.

“Master. Orders?”

“Help Awa, her family, and anyone who Awa tells you to help.” Vincent ordered.

.....

“Order. Obey.”

“Thank you, Vincent. I have some seeds in my private box for Zero. I can give them to it.” Awa looked at Zero and continued, “This is my thanks for helping me stand on my feet.”

“Zero. Eat. Zero. Grow.” Zero responded in a slightly happier tone after hearing Awa mention seeds. After Zero used its vines and spare seeds, it became smaller and smaller.

The moment the Dullahans saw Awa, Zero, Amie, and Lamin leave, they began to hesitate in their decision. They didn’t know if it was right to break the tradition of their clan and have someone who wasn’t a Dullahan lead them.

Vincent summoned a hide and placed it on the ground. He sat on the hide and summoned food for himself and for Plow. Both were preparing for what could be heading in their direction.

“Daddy. I want to bring my wooden sword.” One of the children told their parents. The parent looked at Vincent eating warm food again.

When the parents recalled watching their children eating happily, they chose to place their fate in Vincent’s hands with the intention of revenge if they were to get betrayed.

The two pregnant women and their husbands shortly followed the child’s parents. The next generation of Dullahans and the next generation to be born chose to trust Vincent.

One after the other, the Dullahans trying to think about what to decide, finally chose to trust Vincent while promising revenge if Vincent betrayed them.

A while later, Kazumi returned to Vincent. With her return, bad news followed.

[This is bad, Vincent. I could not see ants because of the trees. I also couldn’t see what the monster was, but one this for is certain. The monster is heading this way.]

*Munch* “Heading this way? Then it wasn’t thunder?”

“Plow definitely heard thunder.” *Pho*

[More accurately, Plow heard trees breaking and falling. Something powerful or large is breaking trees in a linear path. And as I said, it is heading this way.]

*Munch* “How long until its arrival?”

[Based on how it is moving and stopping in random intervals. I estimate five to six minutes max. It could be less than three minutes if what is approaching stops less frequently.]

*Munch* “I will eat this quickly and tell the Dullahans to hurry.”

[It would be better to store all the shacks and leave. Regrettably, it will take a long time because of your current intent control.]

[Ohh. And another thing, the bear we killed was named Orso. It means the bear we killed was the same Bear the Dullahans met.]

[But what if they met with another similar bear and also named it Orso?]

*Munch, Gulp* After quickly eating the last bite, Vincent stood up. On his face was a concerned expression.

Vincent didn’t have enough power, both physically and mentally left in him to fight another being like the Orso he killed.

“Plow is done eating too. Plow wants to help. Plow can hear ants very very close to us.” *Pho*

Vincent stored the hide and the plates on it. He took a deep breath and shouted, “Time is up! Come now! We need to leave right now! That is an order!”

However, no one appeared to have the intention of leaving at this moment. The Dullahans were still in their shacks because they weren’t given enough time to pack their things.

[This is bad. We need to evacuate everyone post haste.]

“Plow. Kazumi. Go and find where the pregnant women are. I will take them out of the village first.” Vincent ordered.

*Pho!* “Plow will find big belly females.”

[I will go to the other side then.]

Plow went running to the left side while Kazumi quickly left to the opposite side Plow went.

Vincent looked at Labh. He was unconscious on the ground. His mother was on her knees a few meters away from him. She was murmuring something while staring at her crippled son as if she was in a daze.

Vincent shrugged his shoulders and hurried toward the log wall. “I hope this isn’t a mistake.” He said while touching two logs and storing them.

“Great. The log wall didn’t collapse, and the missing logs aren’t that noticeable since this area is at the back of the village entrance.”

Now, all Vincent needed was for Plow and Kazumi to lead him to the pregnant women. Running would be bad for both their body and their baby’s body in their current weak state. Vincent wanted to avoid a miscarriage if possible.

Vincent used Overheat and summoned fabrics to cover his hot gauntlets. He rushed to the closest shack and jumped on the roof.

“Vincent Vincent. Plow brought big belly woman.” *Pho* Plow said after locating Vincent.

[Vincent, I found the other pregnant woman. She is four shacks away from this one.]

“Good work.”

Vincent jumped down and approached the husband of the pregnant woman. He extended his arm and touched the bedsheet being used as a large bag hanging on the man’s back.

Vincent went to the pregnant woman. “I need to carry you outside right now.” He said before swiftly carrying her in his arms while being careful at the same time.

“What?!” The pregnant woman’s husband questioned.

“It is an emergency. Follow me.” Vincent briefly explained. He turned around and ran while trying his best to absorb the shock of his every step, similar to the time when he carried Shana’s mother.

“Wait for me! I am coming!” The man shouted while the bag on his back was dematerializing and his wife was being taken.

Vincent swiftly passed through the opening he made in the log wall and ran until reaching the first unchopped tree. He placed the pregnant woman on her feet and told her to wait for the others.

“What is happening?” The pregnant woman asked.

“Something big is approaching the village. I need to evacuate everyone.”

“Something big?...”

“Can you inform the others for me? Also, you better hide because my little fox heard a lot of small footsteps. The enemy might surround the village, so be on your guard.” Vincent told her before dashing away.

Vincent passed the pregnant woman’s husband and reentered the village.

Vincent noticed the second pregnant woman staying near Plow. Plow wagged her tails and said, “Plow got the big belly female here.” *Pho*

“Good job, Plow. Can you go to Awa now? Can you also tell her to lead her people from the back? The position as the new clan chieftain is now hers. ”

Plow nodded. “Plow will go to Awa Awa and Zero Zero now.” *Pho*

“What is happening?” The husband of the pregnant woman asked while carrying five spears on his back and a small bag.

Vincent swiftly lifted the pregnant woman and answered, “The life of this village is over. ” He turned around and continued, “Escaping safely is our number one priority right now.”

“Escaping is...” The man tried to say before Vincent ran away with his pregnant wife.

After Vincent took the second pregnant woman outside and made sure she was fine with a quick glance, he rushed inside the village.

Vincent soon saw Awa with a couple of Dullahans gathered not too far from the training area. They were waiting for Vincent’s next orders.

“I gathered twenty Dullahans and my parents. The others are almost done.” Awa gently nodded once and said with determination, “I will lead my people in this dangerous time. As their new clan chieftain. I want to save everyone.”

Vincent shook his head and his face revealed an angered frown. “We are too late, so don’t blame yourself, Awa. Sometimes, we can not save everyone.”

“Too late?”

Vincent nodded. He pointed at the closed log gate and counted, “Three. Two. One.”

*BOOM!* The log gate was suddenly destroyed.

Large splinters shot randomly, causing devastating damage nearby. Unfortunately, a few nearby shacks were destroyed, and anyone inside passed away instantly.

Instead of a log gate, a large cloud of dust and fine splinters fell on the ground like snow. Whatever monster was behind the cloud of dust, it was approaching the village without changing its course.

The Dullahan village was being attacked by a being powerful enough to break the large log wall with one attack. What monster was approaching? The chances of the weak Dullahans defeating it were slim to none.

“a... A... Aw... Awa! Snap out of it.” Vincent repeated multiple times until Awa stopped being shocked.
