Evadne’s long lashes flickered, and goosebumps sprouted on her skin.
“How did you know I wore size 36 shoes?”
Thaddeus kept his poker face. “They seemed small. I took a guess.”
Evadne with her feet uncomfortably tucked in her slippers, retorted coldly. “With men, it’s always either
the hands or the eyes that are up to no good.” Thaddeus knew he wasn’t being truthful. He knew
Evadne’s shoe size because he had carefully inspected all her stuff left behind at Windermere Estate.
So, he knew she h oarded snacks at home like a little hamster, with chocolate taking up the most
space.
Her favorite perfume was ‘fille de bel’ from er ten. He had smelled it before but thought that its spi cy,
chilly scent didn’t suit her. Then he realized he was wrong. That thorny. proud, and beautiful scent was
made for her.
He knew she wore size 36 shoes. Those little white shoes still neatly placed on the shoe rack, as if she
could return at any moment.
That day, she had sadly said that he never really understood her.
So, he wanted to try understanding her again in that way.
They barely spoke during the two-hour car ride.
The Ferrari pulled into Windermere Estate, stopping in front of the main gate.
Thaddeus unbuckled his seat belt first before extending his hand towards Evadne.
Knowing his tricks, Evadne quickly blocked him with her arm and said coldly, “I can do it myself.”
But, before she could act. Thaddeus had already unbuckled her seat belt and said, “No need to thank
me.”
She was taken aback. How did he move so fast? She didn’t even notice!
She had heard that during his military academy days, he could a**emble a handgun in just eight
seconds. His hand speed was astonishing.
Fooling her was child’s play.
Thaddeus and Evadne entered the front door of the Abernathy family, and word immediately spread
among the ser vants.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇt“Oh my Go d! Am I seeing things? Did Mr. Thaddeus and Mrs. Abernathy come back?!”
“She’s really here! Oh my, she’s so beautiful! How could Mr. Thaddeus divorce her?!”
“What should we call her? Mrs. Abernathy or Ms. Ilana? I’m a bit confused.”
“Let’s just call her Ms. Ilana. If we call her Mrs. Abernathy and Ms. Acacia finds out, we’re in big
trouble!”
“You’re right. Ms. Acacia is just a green-eyed monster, not as gentle as Ms. Ilana.”
Those words reached Thaddeus’ ears. His gaze darkened slightly as he glanced at Evadne next to
him.
He heard it. She must have heard it too, but Evadne seemed to be pretending not to hear. Her
indifferent expression made him uncomfortable.
“Where’s my stuff?”
“It’s still in your room, in the original place.”
“You knew I was coming to pick them up today, but you didn’t prepare in advance. Have you gotten
lazy?” Evadne frowned, complaining.
“Those are all things you value, so I didn’t dare move them.” Thaddeus said, looking at her.
Perhaps men are naturally masochistic.
When Evadne used to be obedient to him, he didn’t care. She was then like a rose with thorns. Her
words were sharp, and each sentence stung his heart, yet he wanted to know
her more.
Evadne didn’t want to make too much eye contact with him. She avoided his gaze and asked, “So what
now? Do I go up and get it or will you send someone to pack it up for
me?”
Just then, his phone rang.
Thaddeus remembered he had an important conference call. He apologized to her, “I need to take a
call; I’ll be back soon.”
“Go ahead.”
After Thaddeus hurriedly left, Evadne finally exhaled, her nerves relaxing.
The trip was awkward enough.
When she was his wife, she tried every means to create opportunities to be alone with him, but that
cold man always gave her the cold shoulder. Then, he personally drove to pick her up, prepared high
heels for her, buckled her seat belt. He was considerate and attentive like a newlywed husband.
But she only felt strange and uncomfortable, as if a bunch of ants were crawling up her ankle.
The late tenderness was like an expired can of food-no sweetness, only a sour taste.
Evadne took out her phone and called Jason, “Jason, I’m at Windermere Estate. Can you come pick
me up now?”
“What?!” Jason exclaimed in surprise, “How did you end up there?!”
“Ah, it’s a long story. Just come over first.”
After hanging up, Evadne headed straight upstairs.
She didn’t want to stay there for long. She planned to pack her clothes first, so she could leave as soon
as Jason arrived.
Her old room was not too far from Marilla Abernathy’s room. She heard that Marilla had taken a leave
from school and was staying at home. So she planned to visit her.
Just as she reached Marilla’s door, she heard Glynnis Abernathy’s shrill voice from inside.

Chapter 119
“You sl ut! You little sl ut! What exactly did you do with Mr. Jareth at Grandpa’s birthday party? Speak!”
“I didn’t do anything. Sis, I really didn’t do anything.” Marilla’s crying voice was heartbreaking.
“You’re lying!” Glynnis was even more furious, she was convinced her sister was lying. “How could
nothing have happened between you two after you drank that stuff? If nothing happened, how do you
explain the hi ckey on his neck?!”
“I don’t know! I really can’t remember. Ah!”
Bang!
That was followed by the sound of a vase shattering.
Evadne stared in anger with her hands clenched. She kicked the door open with a bang, startling the
furious Glynnis.
“It’s you?!” Glynnis barely had time to react when something flew towards her face and hit it! It was a
slipper!
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏm“Ah!” A second later, another slipper followed, hitting her face as well!
Glynnis was hit so hard that her nose turned red. She saw stars and even had a shoe print on her
forehead, which looked absolutely ridiculous.
She covered her forehead, pointing at Evadne’s face. She was so angry that she didn’t even know
what to curse.
“You always call others sl uts! Your words are so unpleasant. Didn’t you wash your mouth after using
the restroom?” Evadne crossed her arms over her chest, her head tilted to the side with a charming
smile that was unnerving.
“Sister-in-law.” Marilla’s petite body shrank in the corner, trembling.
Upon seeing Evadne, her lips quivered with excitement, tears streaming down her face.
“Evadne! You lu natic!”
Glynnis was gritting her teeth in anger, her face numb and painful from the blows. The damage from
the slippers was even worse than a slap. She said, “Don’t think you’re so great just because you’re the
daughter of the Ashbourne family; I’m also the daughter of the Abernathy family and I am not any
weaker than you! You hit me today. I won’t let you off the h ook!”
“You’d better walk the talk, otherwise, I might have no reason to hit you.”
Evadne didn’t care about her at all. Her eyes full of cold mockery. “All you know is bullying your own
little sister at home, you’re really capable.”
Glynnis was a bit slow to respond. It took her a few seconds to react, then she charged at her in anger.
“You dare to insult me?! I’ll fight you to the end!”
Evadne just looked at the irrational, roaring Glynnis and shook her head in disgust.
She really didn’t want to lay a hand on her. Such a person was not worth it. Touching her might even
get rabies.
Just as Glynnis’s hand was about to touch Evadne, a strong, distinct hand grabbed her wrist.
“Ouch, it hurts!” Glynnis felt a sharp pain, bending her waist.
Evadne felt a strong masculine presence behind her. She turned around and was surprised.
It was Thaddeus who was looking at her and their eyes made contact.
Evadne thought she might be seeing things wrong. She actually saw concern in his beautiful eyes.
Stop doubting, she must have seen it wrong.
Rather believe in ghosts than in men.
“Did she hurt you?” Thaddeus lowered his head to look at her, his voice filled with unprecedented
concern.
