Chapter 155 I’m Sorry
Josephine reached out, intending to take her notebook back, but Lewis pulled his arm away. and
waved the book around before resting it on his shoulder and out of her reach. Her hand paused in the
air, and she chewed on her lip as she stared directly at him.
“Who do you want to go to the tulip field with? And go on a hot air balloon ride with?”
Her pupils quivered, and she shook her head. She had never once thought about who she would do
these things with; she had merely written them down out of fear that they would fade into oblivion. The
prospect of losing all her memories terrified her, for she was afraid that she wouldn’t remember even
her smallest desires. Those wishes, which others could easily fulfill, would then transform into lingering
regrets in the void where her memories had
once resided.
Lewis‘ eyes grew colder and colder as he gazed intently at her appearance. “Talk. Who were you
thinking of doing these things with?” he said in a low voice after grabbing her chin. The force behind his
hold wasn’t strong and could even be considered gentle, but the intense air he emanated made her
unable to catch her breath.
Josephine moved her lips, and after a long pause, she finally spoke. Her voice was soft and gentle,
resembling the faint mewl of a kitten, with a slight nasal quality. The two words she uttered, “No one,”
crawled right into his heart.
Lewis chuckled wryly as he gently brushed his thumb against her chin. “It seems I’ve been a great
inconvenience to you. How could I have not known that your heart had already flown so far away?”
She reached out to hold his hand, but her fingers grasped nothing as he swiftly withdrew it. Flipping
through her notebook once again, he skimmed over what was written inside and then looked at her.
She subconsciously stood up from the couch when she noticed his gaze.
A ripping sound was heard as he tore her notebook in half before her eyes. She stood there stunned,
and her arms were frozen as she watched him tear her notebook apart. With a flick of his arms, he

place like snow.
“And it looks like I’ll have to keep inconveniencing you,” he stated flatly, as if he had casually torn apart
something inconsequential.
Josephine’s eyes turned misty as she watched the torn pieces flutter in the air. Some landed on her
hair and shoulders, as though they were consoling her. Lewis turned and went upstairs after he finished
speaking. The draft from his movement scattered some of the pieces further.
She stood silently in the living room and stared at the torn notebook in a daze. It was a long while
before she squatted down and started to gather them together. Like the scattered scraps of paper, her
insignificant wishes lay shattered and scattered, unable to be pieced back

together. She got on her hands and knees and picked up the pieces that fell under the coffee
table and couch.
From upstairs, Lewis observed Josephine’s actions with a cold gaze with his arms crossed. She
meticulously picked up the scattered pieces, as if they were precious treasures. Unbeknownst to him,
what he had callously ripped apart were things that had taken her a long time to think. of and write
down. He remained in the dark about the possibility that tomorrow might erase her memories of all
these things.
She went to the utility closet with the torn pieces in her arms and placed them in a small box. She
remained there for so long that she had forgotten why she was even there in the first place. She turned
to leave and noticed Lewis standing outside the doorway without knowing how long he had been there.
He was still dressed in that shimmery gray dress shirt, except the collar had been unbuttoned and
opened. One could see his collarbone and Adam’s apple when he tilted his head back. She stared at
him for a few seconds before she remembered why she had been looking for him.
“Did you
leave the company?” she signed. She initially thought of asking if he had been kicked off the board but
asking him that outright would be offensive.
His gaze bore into her, and a few moments elapsed before he finally responded. “If I were to say yes,
would you prepare yourself to embark on your bucket list?”
Josephine was taken aback, and she quickly shook her head and signed, “Have you truly left?”
“Yes.”
She didn’t know what to say in response. She was silent for the longest time before signing,” I’m sorry.”
“You’re sorry?”
She nodded. “This is all my fault. I’m sorry.”
“What do you plan to do about it?”
She fell silent once more, contemplating her decision. After a while, she gathered the courage to sign,
“I will find a job.”
A smile tugged at the corners of Lewis‘ mouth as he asked, “A job? What for?”
“I’ll earn money so that you won’t go hungry.”
His lips formed a thin line as he gazed intensely at her. There was a prolonged silence, leaving her
wondering what thoughts were swirling in his mind. After a moment, he reached out and gently
caressed her cheek. “Wow, aren’t you capable? Then how about you help me pay back the hundreds
of billions I owe the company too?”
Josephine stiffened in shock and suddenly recalled Conrad mentioning that Lewis would go to jail.
Could it be because he owed the company that much money?

“What’s wrong? Got cold feet?” Lewis closed the distance between them. “There’s no use even if you
are. This is a burden that we share as husband and wife. If you want to divorce me so that you can
fulfill your silly little dreams, you’ll need to fork up half of the debt first. Am I clear?”
She struggled to comprehend the magnitude of hundreds of billions, but she understood that it was an
astronomical amount, far beyond her means to repay in her lifetime. It also meant that she couldn’t
divorce him in this lifetime. Then, she tightly held his hand, looking at him with reassurance and
determination, conveying her unwavering commitment to stand by his
side.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmLewis was speechless. “Go and wash up,” he said after a long time.
Josephine knew he was in a bad mood due to his dismissal. It was only natural for someone to feel
upset after experiencing such a significant fall from a high position. She understood that his emotional
state was currently volatile and made a conscious effort not to provoke him further. Instead, she
resolved to comply with his wishes and follow his lead.
Hence, she went upstairs and took a shower, scrubbing herself thoroughly many times. When she
came out, he unexpectedly handed her clothes, which she quickly took from him. Unfolding it, it
appeared to be a strange white garter belt that looked like a swimsuit but had pantyhose attached. She
had several of this type and flushed at the thought of this.
“Put it on.”
She glanced at him. He was already seated on the couch, leisurely lighting a cigarette, his deep eyes
locked on her. She surreptitiously took a deep breath and reminded herself that he had suffered a big
blow and was in a bad mood. She mentally repeated this to herself thrice before entering the bathroom
with the clothes he had given her. She had changed into them when she reemerged.
Josephine felt embarrassed and awkward, not knowing which parts of herself she should cover with her
hands. Lewis sat motionless on the couch as he swept his gaze over her.
She walked up and stood before him on her own accord. “I’ve changed into it,” she signed
with a red face.
Lewis patted his lap. He didn’t need to say anything for her to understand what he meant. She sat
sideways on his lap. He tilted his chin up with his finger, and his lips curved meaningfully, making her
heart clench. His gaze was full of disgust and scorn.
“Were you just as compliant when you were with Seth?”
Josephine’s face paled slightly at his question, and a flicker of panic crossed her features, thinking,
“Could it be…Did Seth reveal the footage to him?” Nervously, she clenched her fingers, avoiding his
gaze. The air around her seemed to grow colder, and a shiver ran down her spine.
He turned her face to him. “Answer me.”
