Chapter 37 BLAIRE I went straight to the restroom. I feel like I’m about to have an anxiety attack. I tried to act strong in front of Sebastian, but the truth is, I’m shattered inside. I had been trying to convince myself for quite some tnow that what happened was inevitable. But I wasn’t prepared for the pain that comes along with it. I’m so stu pid for letting myself believe that there’s a chance for us. My tears continued to flow along my cheeks as I looked at myself in the mirror, looking so pathetic and desperate. I can’t recognize the woman that I’m looking at right now. I used to be brave and courageous. But I’m not aware that love can make you endure every pain possible. How long will I let myself suffer like this? I let out a loud sigh as I fixed myself. Just when I was washing my hands, someone unexpectedly came inside the restroom. She’s the last person I want to see right now. It gave her a brief glare before turning off the faucet. I grabbed a tissue to dry my hands. before I headed towards the door. But before I could even take a few more steps, she blocked me. “You have to let him go, Blaire. He’s not yours to begin with. Give him back to me, Catherine said without blinking “He’s not a thing that I can just give back to you, Catherine. He’s my husband. Our marriage is legally binding. I can’t do that just because you askedto!” I’m fuming mad. She had the audacity to ask me that, as if our marriage didn’t mean anything. “Leaving him was the biggest mistake I ever made. I thought I was doing him a favor by sparing him from my misery, but I was wrong. G od gaveanother chance at life so I could set things right,” she confessed. “But you’re sick again, aren’t you? Maybe it’s Go d’s way of telling you that leaving was the right choice, and you’re destined to die anyway.” My words struck a nerve, and the next thing I knew, her hand landed sharply on my cheek. “If you’re wishing for my death, it’s not going to happen. I will overcthis, just like I did before. And I’m going
through this with Sebastian by my side.” “Good luck with that. ‘Cause I have no plans of giving up without putting up a good fight. You’ll be his mistress as long as I am here,” I told her. “You want a fight?” she said as she squinted her eyes at me. “I’ll give you one,” she said. I frowned, my eyes narrowing as I observed her every move with growing concern. Without warning, she seized the piece of the restroom counter that rested in front of the mirror. My eyes widened in shock as she hurled it at the mirror, shattering it into 1/4 Chapter 37

Confusion grippedas I tried to make sense of her actions; it seemed like she had completely lost her grip on reality. She smirked, a disturbing glint in her eyes, as she picked up one of the broken pieces of glass. “I’m not done yet,” she declared before slashing her arm with the jagged edge. “Catherine, stop it!” I yelled, to intervene before she could inflict further harm on herself. I grasped her hand, the one holding the sharp glass, desperately attempting to prevent her from causing more injury. “So predictable, Blaire,” she whispered, placing the broken glass in my hand before launching into a piercing scream. “Help! Someone help me, please!” she cried out, her voice echoing through the chaos she had created. The commotion escalated as Catherine’s cries for help echoed through the restroom. Panicked footsteps approached, and soon enough, concerned onlookers rushed into the scene. “What’s happening here?” a concerned woman asked, surveying the shattered mirror and the

“I didn’t do anything,” I replied in gritted teeth. “Are you tellingthat she did that to herself?” He said it as if what I’m implying is absurd. “That’s exactly what I’m telling you,” I responded coldly. I wasn’t exactly trying to convince him because, judging by his reaction, he’s already taking Catherine’s side. “Stop lying, Blaire. I’m not mad at you for doing this to me. You don’t have to lie,” Catherine interjected. Sebastian’s disbelief hung in the air, his gaze shifting between us as if torn between conflicting truths. My attempt to convey that Catherine had orchestrated the entire scene seemed to fall on deaf ears. “Sebastian, I would never do this to myself. She’s trying to manipulate you,” she insisted. Catherine, feigning vulnerability, chimed in. “Sebastian, I know we’ve had our differences, but I never expected her to becviolent. You should have seen the hatred in her eyes.” Sebastian’s expression hardened-a mix of disappointment and anger. The weight of the situation pressed down on me, and the truth was obscured by Catherine’s cun ning performance. “Quit lying!” I shouted as I walked towards her to force the truth out of her. “No, please! Don’t hurt me!” She screamed as if I were attacking her. “Blaire, that’s enough!” Sebastian grabbed my hand and pulledaway from Catherine.
