Chapter 2109 No Peace of Mind
Nonetheless, Ian didn't release his hold on the man's collar.
The man's knee was in pain. He had wanted to double over to hold onto his injured knee, but with Ian holding him
by the collar, he found himself in an awkward position. He wasn't sure what he was supposed to do.
Meanwhile, the younger man who had popped out of his unit earlier scoffed in contempt as he snapped, "How
disgraceful for a grown man like you to mistreat a young lady that way!" It looked like he wasn't someone who
followed up on the latest entertainment gossip, for he didn't recognize Ian and the man who had caused a ruckus
earlier today.
After holding onto him for a while, Ian decidedly hurled him aside and turned to assess Cindy frantically. "Are you
okay? Did he hurt you?"
Cindy shook her head in response. The man had clutched her wrist a little too hard just now and caused it to tingle
in pain, but she was unscathed otherwise. In truth, she could tell that the man had no intention of hurting her; he
only wanted to see Ian and Aurora desperately, and in a fit of anxious rage, he ended up putting too much force

Ian caressed her face gently and muttered, "Are you still going to work? Why don't you just stay at home and rest?"
She glanced at her watch and saw that she could still make it to work in time. "I have to go. Do you think you can
handle things here? I have to get going now."
He sighed in resignation and answered, "Fine, go on. I'll take care of things here."
Cindy shot the man a brief look and saw that he was still cupping his knee. She had admittedly packed quite some
strength into that kick, and she had a feeling that if she had gone on with her initial plan to kick him in the crotch,
he might've very well lost his family jewels.
Presently, she hailed a passing taxi to take her to the company. Along the way, she scrolled through her phone and
waited to see if there was any more news that followed up on the man's ruckus earlier today. Now that Ian had
ventured out of the apartment, the man would undoubtedly badger him to talk things out instead of letting him go
back home.
If that came to pass, surely the online tabloids would have a field day.
I guess the audience will be getting bonus gossip. Lucky them, she thought dryly.
Cindy sighed a little despondently. As things were, it would take some time before she could finally have a quiet and
peaceful life with Ian. After all, it seemed as if drama was intent on sticking to them.
She arrived at the company right on the dot, only to see that most of her colleagues were at their desks sketching
and scribbling. She could tell that they were pretty devoted to their work since none of them even noticed that she
had returned.
She had to admit that there was something attractive about her peers' dedication to their work. In fact, she
preferred them like this compared to the times when they had gossiped about her behind her back.
Cindy was somewhat unsettled as she sat at her desk; she rolled up her sleeve to check the skin on her wrist and
realized that it was still red. She wasn't in the mood for sketching either, so she perused her documents as she
leaned into her seat. However, as the words jumbled up before her eyes, Cindy came to realize that she couldn't
focus on reading at all.
She wanted so badly to text Ian and ask him if everything was alright, but she was worried that he might still have
his hands full while dealing with the aftermath of the commotion just now, so she decided to sit and wait for news to
come to her.

while everyone seemed engrossed in their sketches and drafts, Cindy sat at her desk scanning some documents,
and she looked as if she was the most at ease among her peers.
Serena was surprised by the sight of this, so she walked up to Cindy's desk and assessed her. When she saw how
serious Cindy looked while reading the documents, she did not say a word and merely eyed her for a long moment
before turning to walk away.
For the rest of the day, Cindy felt listless even though she hardly did any real work at all. There were times when
she had to force herself to get some actual work done, but inspiration never graced her with its fickle presence.
She thought it was meaningless to do work without inspiration, so she spent her time trying to readjust her
momentum and sort out her feelings.
After glancing through yet another document, she pulled out her phone and tried to search for news on Ian that
might have popped up during the last few hours.
When she scrolled through the online news platforms and saw nothing, she wondered if the incident had been
covered up or if it had yet to blow up. Since she was feeling uneasy about it, she texted Aurora and asked how
things were going at home.
Aurora's reply was quick, and all she told Cindy was that everything was fine and there was nothing to worry about.
Cindy thought that she wouldn't be reassured until she went home to take a look at things for herself, though
Aurora's text did comfort her for a moment and gave her some peace of mind.
