Chapter 425
Nolan reacted immediately. With one swift motion, he flipped the table at the masked men and grabbed Stephen
before jumping through the window. Luckily, they were on the second floor, which was not that high of a jump.
Nolan had been through enough tough scrapes in the past-most of thefn thanks to Ethan- to know how to handle
a jump like that, so he landed on his feet without a hitch.
Stephen, on the other hand, was not so unlucky. When he hit the ground, he lost his balance and crashed down
hard, tumbling over twice before coming to a stop. He was covered in dirt, and his arms and leg throbbed in
pain, but he had no tto check his injuries.
Nolan pulled him up. "Con!"
The two of them ran towards the crowd. By the tthe hitmen got to the window, they were already shuttling
among the crowd.
"They're quick."
The hitmen did not shoot due to the distance and the overwhelming crowd on the street. They were not
confident enough to take the shot. More importantly, they were there for Nolan, not Stephen. If they accidentally

Stephen was the son of the Quinns, so unless it was absolutely necessary or Ethan had joined the fray, no one
could lay a finger on him.
The hitmen were forced to leave and wait for a second chance to take Nolan's life.
Nolan and Stephen got into a car by the roadside and urged the driver to accelerate. Once the car roared to life
and they sped away, both men exhaled deeply, finally able to catch their breath.
"What the hell happened back there? What were those men trying to do?" Stephen asked, still
shaken.
Nolan said, "They must be after you. If anyone could get guns so easily around here, it must be the South
Regent. He wants you dead."
He had a strong hunch that the South Regent was actually after him, but by diverting the attention to Stephen,
he could make Stephen hate the South Regent even more. Then, it would be easier for the Spencers to target
the South Regent.
"Damn it!" Stephen cursed through clenched teeth.
Nolan noticed Stephen's arm was bleeding, so he said to the driver, "To the hospital."
Stephen had taken a hard fall from the second floor. His arm and leg were scraped up, but it was nothing serious.
After getting treated at the hospital, Stephen looked at Nolan with utmost gratitude. "Thank

you for saving me. If not for you, | might be dead"
Nolan shook his head. "It's my duty to protect you." However, deep down, he could not help but reflect.
Back in the day, he had been on the run, scared for his life because of Ethan's threats. He had never imagined
that the skills he had learned while running for cover would one day save someone else's life. Maybe he should
thank Ethan in person.
Later that night, at 10 p.m., the police chief called, informing them that they were still searching for the hitmen.
Stephen ordered a manhunt across the city, determined to capture the men who tried to kill him.
Nolan also called his father and brother, informing them of the assassination attempt.
Edward said, "The South Regent is coming after us. Well, if he wants us dead, we shall retaliate as well."
He told Nolan to continue sabotaging the South Regent's business in Hill City.
The next day, the quarry had another explosion, but that was not all. A section of the South Regent's lumber

caused a certain amount of damage to the company's business. When the South Regent received the news, his
face hardened with anger. Only Ethan had ever made him back down after taking a hit, and now the Spencers
were stepping all over him like he did not exist, disrespecting him as the King Beyond the Border.
While he sent his company's representative to file a compensation claim with Stephen, he started plotting his
revenge.
Later that sday, a fire also broke out in one of the lumberyards, and it did not stop there. The underground
parking at the Spencers' corporate office was also engulfed in flames. Cars were burning, thick black smoke
billowing into the sky. Not interesting at all Not interesting at all
