Chapter 409
Chapter 409
The South Regent said with a smile, "Perfect timing. Lord Rivers, why don't you try these two lovely ladies’
cooking? They're the best cooks we have."
Ethan glanced at the two ladies. Although they were quite beautiful, he was unaffected. After tasting the dishes,
he found that they tasted decent.
"How is it?" the South Regent asked with anticipation.
Ethan replied, "Their outfits and cooking skills have room for improvement, but it's not bad overall."
The South Regent turned to the two and said, "Hurry up and thank Lord Rivers for his comments."
"Thank you," said the two ladies at the stime.
The South Regent was in a good mood, so he opened a bottle of wine. He poured Ethan a glass and then poured
one for himself as well. Although his main goal was not achieved, it was still not considered a failure:
Meanwhile, Stephen had returned to Hill City. He had had enough of enduring Rachel's coldness at home.
Moreover, although they had been married for several days, she would not even let him touch her hand: Once
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtGeorge was sent to prison, he quickly went to Hill City.
Stephen skipped his meal and summoned a large group to discuss ways to tackle the issues in Hill City.
"Everyone, the reason | called you here is simple. Hill City is facing sproblems, so | need everyone's help to
cup with solutions.
Stephen continued, "First, there's the issue of selecting a new mayor."
Ever since Julius's death, Hill City had not elected a new mayor. Stephen was cautious and did not dare to make
a hasty choice as he had been deceived by mayors too many times.
Everyone in the meeting room fell into deep thought. If it were in the past, they would all have wanted to be
mayor. However, everyone was aware of how Julius died. Moreover, many things were happening in Riveria, and
issues had emerged in many cities ever since they started dealing with North Hill City.
Whoever becthe mayor now would have to clean up the mess, so nobody wanted to take up the role. Since
nobody uttered a word, Stephen frowned as he exclaimed, "Say something!"
Everyone jolted a bit and then exchanged uneasy glances. At this point, what could anyone say? Propose to take
up the role of mayor themselves? Absolutely not. Suggest someone else? That would not work either. No one
here bore grudges against each other. However, seeing the look on Ethan's face, they knew they had to say
something.
The deputy mayor, Joseph Hanson's eye gleamed as he thought of an idea. "None of us are qualified enough to
becthe mayor, but we can bring in a mayor or deputy mayor from

other cities to be our mayor."
Everyone's eyes lit up and they quickly agreed, "That's a good idea."
"Not bad." Stephen then asked, "Who would be a suitable candidate?" Should he send over someone from North
Hill City, Seaside City, Aqua City, or Celestial City? That would not work as the personnel there were in no
position to be shifted. They could only bring someone over from the more developed cities. Such individuals
would already be experienced in working in thriving environments.
Joseph suggested, "Breeze City's deputy mayor should be a good candidate. He has been the deputy mayor for
twenty years and has rich experience in management. Now's a good tto promote him to mayor."
Stephen asked with his eyes narrowed, "Do you have any other suggestions?"
Joseph shook his head. "I don't know much about others."
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmStephen replied, "Fine then. I'll look into him."
After being deceived so many times, Stephen would no longer immediately trust what others said. He had to
make sure of things himself.
"The second issue is..." Stephen began to continue.
"Wait a minute," Joseph quickly interrupted. "The matters you want to discuss are crucial for Hill City, so wouldn't
it be better to wait until the new mayor is here before we dive into them?
11
Stephen thought for a moment before nodding in agreement. If they discussed everything
now, the new mayor would cin without a base understanding of things, which would not benefit Hill City.
"That's all for today's meeting then."
