Chapter 25 "I didn't threaten you with it," Karen sniffed. “I was just scared. I didn't want to give birth out of wedlock and watch our daughter grow up without the stability of a family." "You know what, let's just end this conversation. It won't-" Kris was still speaking when a soft, sweet, tiny voice cut him off.

"Daddy, why are you fighting with Mommy?" Kris turned to find his daughter standing in the doorway, realizing they'd forgotten to close the door. He immediately went to her and dropped to his knees, feeling his chest swell with love as he cupped her small face in his hands.

"No, sweetie. Mommy and Daddy aren't fighting. We're just talking." "Tal...king?" "Yes," Kris nodded with a smile, kissing her on the forehead.

His baby. His Tessa. His little bundle of joy. She was the best thing that had happened to him in the three years. There was no one he cared more about than her.

She was the reason why he couldn't call what happened between him and Karen three years ago a mistake. That mistake had given him this little girl whom he adored more than anything else.

"Why aren't you in bed, sweetie?" he asked softly, despite frowning a bit.

past She was barely two and a half years old, and he didn't like that she'd been left to wander off on her own. He made a mental note to speak to the nanny later.

"I couldn't sleep. Daddy didn't sing to me," Tessa replied, sounding so sad.

"I'm sorry, sweetie. Daddy had something to do, but no worries. I'll go sing to you right now." "Yay!" Chuckling, Kris cradled her against his chest as he stood up. He was about to walk out when Karen complained, "You and I aren't done talking, Kris. You can't just leave." "Not now, Karen." Kris shot her a glare, not believing she still wanted to argue in front of their daughter. He walked out and took his daughter to the room next door, tucking her into her toddler bed. Sitting beside her, he sang lullabies until she finally fell asleep.

Once she was asleep, he let out a sigh, dreading going back to his room. Karen's nagging would just irritate him more.

Instead, he found himself thinking about the masked woman at the masquerade gala.

The next day, Kris's best friends, Henry and Alden, cto see him in his office. He had just told them about his suspicions regarding the masked woman.

"Wait. You think that the owner of TT Fashion is your ex-wife?" Henry asked, gawking at him.

+25 BONUS Chapter 25 Kris gritted his teeth, not liking how his friends were looking at him as if he'd grown a pair of horns on his forehead.

"Kris, it's been three years," Alden pointed out. "Do you really think Thalassa is still moping over your family? She has probably moved on and gotten married or something." you and Kris felt his fists clench tightly at the thought of Alden's last point being true. He refused to think about why the thought bothered him so much.

"Remember I had my suspicions about TT Fashion?" Kris said.

"Yes," Alden said. “You suspected that the owner of the company was specifically targeting the downfall of your mother's company. So that's why you suspect that it's Thalassa behind it?" "Just look at the nof the company, Alden," Kris said, feeling frustrated. "T.T. Those are Thalassa's Initials." Alden shrugged. "It could also be a coincidence. There are a lot of people in the world with TT as their initials,” Kris's nostrils flared, feeling like his friend was being purposely dense just to annoy him.

"Kris, it's been three years, and you're married with a daughter. I can't believe you're still so hung up on that woman," Henry said. "You always think that every woman is her. Remember when you were so sure that a woman you saw passing at the club was her? You embarrassed yourself chasing after her, only to realize that it wasn't even her." Kris shut his eyes tightly at the embarrassing memory but set his mouth into a stubborn line. "This tit's different. If it's not her, then why did she refuse to say her nto anyone?" Henry let out a sound of frustration. "Oh please, Kris. I've seen pictures and videos of this TT from the gala party. How can you even think that that sophisticated woman is the sas your lowlife ex-wife?" Before he could even think, Kris shot to his feet and hissed while glaring down at his friend, "This is the last tyou're going to speak that way about Thalassa. Is that clear?" Both Henry and Alden were stunned by his reaction.

"So you're now defending that woman?" Henry said, not liking the tone Kris had spoken to him with. Kris froze as he realized Henry was right. What was wrong with him? He sank back into his swivel chair, Thankfully, the awkwardness didn't last long before a knock sounded on the door, and someone entered.

It was his secretary, a beautiful, bright, young woman named Millie.

"Sir, I just received a reply from the receptionist at TT Fashion. The CEO has agreed to a meeting with your mother. The problem is, she says it has to be this afternoon," Millie explained.

For sreason, Kris felt his heart beating furiously. "It's okay. Send back a reply that we'll be there." He knew his mother wasn't going to be happy that the CEO had scheduled the meeting on such short notice, and he felt guilty because he hadn't had his mother in mind when asking his secretary to book the appointment. All he'd been thinking about was finally seeing the face of the masked woman.

+25 BONUS Chapter 25 The eagerness was not lost on Alden, who had been studying his friend carefully. He knew that even though Kris would not admit it, being without Thalassa all these years had truly affected him.

He sighed and asked, "What makes you so sure that it's her? What if it's a different person?" Kris shrugged, recalling the masked woman. Yes, there were differences; her walk had been more refined, and her dressing had been completely different, but she still reminded him so much of Thalassa.

It was in her eyes, the way her lips moved when she talked, and the way she threw her head back slightly whenever she laughed or chuckled.

Or maybe his friends were right. He was just going crazy.

But either way, this afternoon, he was finally going to see the face of the masked woman.
