Chapter 229
The moment Larissa got home, she removed the ring from her finger and carefully placed it inside her
jewelry box. Even though it was supposed to be a prop, based on Kevan’s character, a large diamond
like this probably cost a lot. She didn’t dare wear it out, fearing that wearing it in public might risk
damaging it or attracting unwanted attention from others with ill intentions.
In the WhatsApp group chat, her colleagues were all talking about the meteor shower tonight. It
seemed that the National Weather Service had forecasted this, hence many people had gone up to
Starry Mountain a day in advance just to wait for those few seconds in which the meteor shower could
be seen.
I’m currently at the peak of Starry Mountain, and it’s absolutely packed,” one of Larissa’s assistants
messaged, accompanied by a picture capturing the current scene. The photo showed a dense crowd
swarming the mountain’s summit.
Those who can get here are lucky enough. Many people are stranded on the mountainside. They can’t
come up or go back down. I don’t even know when I’ll be able to make my way down either. The police
have come to disperse the crowds. @Larissa, I’ll just apply for a leave in advance. If you don’t see me

Larissa replied, “Sure. Take care.”
Larissa’s leave application was rather sudden, not to mention the fact that Xavier had taken her phone
away, so she had not been around for two whole days in the group chat. Now that her text. message
had finally been sent, the group chat burst into a flurry of activity.
“The missing person has been found“”
“Ms. Seymour, you’re back!”
Larissa sent a cute emoji and said, “I went back to my hometown two days ago. It’s pretty rural, so
there’s no signal.”
“Ms. Seymour, have you seen tonight’s meteor shower?”
“Yeah, I did.” And it was at an excellent spot–she could not say that, of course, or else she would risk
exposing her relationship with Kevan.
“Did you make a wish?”
Larissa was way past the age of believing in such unrealistic superstitions. But when she saw the
shooting stars, a notion flashed briefly through her mind, “It would be wonderful if time could stop at this
moment.”
Last night was just like a scene from a magical fairytale, with a princely gentleman by her side. But
deep down, she knew that this enchanting moment was never truly hers to keep.
Once the contract was up, all the magic would disappear, and she would be Cinderella once again.
When she thought of that, she was inexplicably sad.
“Nope,” Larissa texted back.
“Aww…”
expressed everyone in the group chat, showing their mathy toward her situation

“It’s okay, Ms. Seymour! I made a wish!” her assistant said, “My wish is for Ms. Seymour to meet her
Mr. Right as soon as possible!”
Kevan appeared in Larissa’s mind’s, and a smile appeared on her face. However, her smile was
bittersweet.
“Thanks.”
Everyone began cheering for her, but Larissa no longer had the mood to engage in any playful

Larissa never had trouble adjusting to a new bed or sleeping in unfamiliar surroundings, but she
actually lost sleep tonight due to Kevan’s absence.
Her brain was filled with all sorts of distracting thoughts.
What was he doing now?
Did he get drunk?
Would he be okay?
That kept going until midnight. Larissa could no longer resist and got up from the bed.
The living room was still dark. She knocked lightly on the master bedroom door, but there was no
response, as expected
She could not help but worry.
When she returned to her room, she texted Kevan. “Are you coming back tonight?”
He never responded though.
Past 5 am, Larissa finally felt sleepy enough to drift off.
The alarm rang exactly at 8 am Struggling to get up, Larissa freshened herself as she yawned, then
walked over to the entrance hall, her eyes barely open.
When she passed by the sofa, she smelled the strong scent of alcohol–this was not there last night.
