717 Let them practice on their foe
The wall made out of wind blocked a lot of the ice shards. However, the wind walls could only protect the casters and a few of those standing behind the protective wind.
The soldiers gulped and became afraid. They held their shields with a firm grip and hoped today would not be their last day.
“Stay strong.” Said one of the royal soldiers standing in front of them.
One after the other, the royal soldiers swung their swords to slash the ice shards. They swung their shields to parry while regaining their balance and swinging their sword again.
A lot of the soldiers, most of who were not experienced with the dangers of the outside, saw their life flash before their eyes. But the moment their ears heard the royal soldiers doing everything in their power to protect their lives, the soldiers started to admire the power a royal soldier holds.
The soldiers became hopeful, and their legs shook less from fear. Their hands held their shield firmer, and their hearts raced more from excitement than fear.
A thing the royal mages and the royal soldiers didn’t account for happened. The four snow wolves attacking them didn’t stop. Their large bodies tore a lot of wounds, yet the barrage of ice shards did not stop. Instead, their control increased.
“What the hell is happening?” Questioned one of the royal mages.
“I feel the same! I have to move my wind wall because the projectiles are trying to go over the protective wind.” Another complained.
.....
“Stop blabbering and focus! Many will die if you lose your focus and the chant gets interrupted.” The leading royal mage ordered.
The royal soldiers were getting tired. Every passing second felt like a minute.
However, it was not because of the repeating constant barrage of ice shards but because the ice shards were altering their direction halfway. The longer the assault continued, the more prone to make a mistake became.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtOne of the royal soldiers stepped on his foot by mistake and had to block an ice shard with his shield. The first projectile was blocked. The second made him lose his balance. The third caused him to step on his foot again, causing him to fall.
The protection the ten people provided was over the moment one of them failed. Numerous ice shards from the newly breached path moved with ice manipulation to kill the soldiers and those they tried to protect with their bodies.
One soldier saw an ice shard heading in his direction. He raised his shield but knew his strength was not enough to block the impact completely.
His life flashed before his eyes for the second time. He gulped and hoped his family could be cared for by the people he saved with his body.
A figure appeared in front of him in the blink of an eye. A mysterious golden trial followed the figure’s head. White long hair, a pair of fluffy ears, and a fluffy tail caught his attention.
In front of him was the woman he had to protect. Her body moved quickly, and sometimes, she looked blurry.
Lupa moved forward as her arms swung swiftly. She moved, swung her claws around, and did not stop.
The soldiers looked at Lupa with awe. They couldn’t believe how she was displaying the same or even more power than the royal soldiers.
Whenever her arms moved and became blurry, fragments of ice fell to the ground a moment later. The woman in front of them was protecting them while displaying incredible power.
The sound of ice being shredded to pieces caught the attention of the four royal soldiers defending against the assault of ice shards. The royal soldier on the ground forgot he needed to get up. He was too shocked to think.
The four royal soldiers peeked behind them. Their movement slowed the moment they saw Lupa swinging her claw and rending the ice apart as if she was cutting dried mud.
The royal soldiers couldn’t comprehend how even if they were strong and their perception stat wasn’t low, they were seeing Lupa’s arms become blurry as they moved for the next approaching ice shard.
The royal soldiers lost their momentum because of the incredible view behind them. They could not block and parry the ice shards properly, causing more and more ice shards to go past them.
Regardless of the numerous projectiles passing them, the woman destroying any piece of ice quicked her pace instead of slowing down. Her body became more blurry, and her movement became faster.
It took a couple of swift steps to reach the defensive wall of four royal soldiers. When each soldier took a good glance at Lupa, they became intimidated.
Her calm, cold, and expressionless gaze were intimidating. Eye predator wolf-like eyes shone golden as if a predator was passing.
To them, Lupa wasn’t a helpless woman they needed to protect anymore. Instead, Lupa was like a predator who needed to be let loose to protect them.
Lupa stopped walking swiftly anymore. She dashed forward while her arms moved faster than before. The more she moved forward, the more she became the target of the ice shards. As if the snow wolves became weary of her presence.
The five royal soldiers remained on guard, but not a single fragment of ice reached their location. They were genuinely speechless and didn’t know what they should do.
“Huh?” One of the royal mages questioned when he saw Lupa moving past them. The woman in front of his view was destroying the ice shards as if they were nothing to her.
“What are you doing?” The royal mage questioned Lupa’s actions. However, he couldn’t condemn her action.
They weren’t prepared to take a lot of magic beasts simultaneously. It was worse as they knew teamwork. Lupa was the sole person keeping them stay strong and without suffering a casualty.
“Hunting my prey.” Lupa coldly responded.
“Ambush!” Shouted a woman from behind them.
The royal mages and the royal soldiers became worried. They started to curse their luck as the magic beasts in front of them were giving them enough trouble. They couldn’t fight against another enemy in such a critical situation.
*Boom!* The location of the snow wolves was suddenly covered in a cloud of snow. The ice shard projectiles stopped being shot because of this mysterious attack.
The royal mages and the royal soldiers became confused, yet they saw Lupa running without stopping. The ten looked behind. They noticed two of the women they were tasked to protect were missing. One was running toward the wolves while the other disappeared.
A gust of wind dispersed the cloud of snow. In between four large snow wolves was a frail-looking hooded woman being bitten viciously.
However, instead of hearing her screaming from indescribable pain, they heard the sound of teeth trying to break a rock. The more of her clothes were being ripped apart, the more they could recognize her. It was Ester, and her skin was shining mysteriously.
Lupa jumped high up in the air. The snow in front of her froze solid, and multiple icicles extended from the ground.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmInstead of flinching, Lupa contorted her body and vaulted over the ice. She was soon met with a strange snow wolf. Half of its head was made of ice.
“Royal mages. Cast Wind Arrows! Royal soldiers. Save them!” The leading royal mage ordered. One woman was about to die, and the other was jumping to her death. The situation had gotten out of control.
*Step. Step.* “Can you leave the fight to them?” Asked a woman from behind them.
The leading royal mage turned around. He saw Lilith, Iris, and Jun Ye Rim looking at him. The soldiers behind them were observing the fight and the reaction of their current commanding officer.
“What do you mean leave it to them? We are here to protect...”
“They do not need your protection for now.” Lilith interrupted. “They are going to participate in the judgment by combat. This is a great field to practice.”
“Have you gone insane? How can they take out five great snow wolves with so much coordination?” The royal mage looked at Ester and continued, “Are your glasses bad? How can you not see that redheaded woman getting mauled to death?”
Lilith smirked. “How about this? My two sisters will buy you and your men enough time to formulate a plan and assist them.” She suggested.
*Tsk* The leading royal mage clicked his tongue when his authority was being challenged by the person he was asked to protect.
He looked at the royal soldiers and ordered, “Separate two of the great snow wolves and fight them. At least the women who want to play with their lives will have two fewer opponents.”
The royal soldiers looked at each other and nodded. Two of them saw Lupa slash the head of the wolf and fragments of ice flying in the air as they headed to her location.
The remaining three royal soldiers rushed to Ester. The more they witnessed what was happening, the more they couldn’t believe how she could stay standing without a single drop of blood in sight.
“Mages. Channel your mana into your best wind spell. Try to make it powerful enough to control the spell while inflicting a critical wound.”
The four royal mages nodded. They quickly began channeling as much mana as they could handle for their next spell. However, it was going to take time.
The royal mage looked at the soldiers. He gently shook his head and tried to think of a way they could be useful in this situation.
Four wolves viciously bit endlessly one single woman. The woman being bitten suddenly smirked.
