282 Nowhere to run
The two sides clashed, and the situation turned worse for the old soldier’s side. The assassins appeared to be stronger and more experienced when it came to fighting in the night. Only the armor was keeping the soldiers alive for now as they did their best.
“RUN! This monster will kill us all!”
“Protect the Viscount from the shadows, my ass! I never signed to fight a monster!”
Two assassins ran out from the destroyed wall. They were shouting with a wavering voice and running for their lives. The two of the ten remaining assassins gave up and chose to live for another day.
Their shouting caught the attention of those in front of the gate. Everyone’s gaze went over to the commotion, and the following appearing figure shocked them.
A man darting much faster than the two assassins quickly reached them. The man, with a soul-piercing shining gaze and steam following him as if burning, extended the index finger from each hand and shanked the assassin’s backs.
“Shatter!” He exclaimed when he used the refined version of Force Shock with all the mana, his gauntlets collected automatically.
*Crack* Whatever happened inside the assassins’ bodies could only be estimated by the loud sound of bones cracking and shattering. The two assassins slammed lifelessly on the ground and didn’t move.
“Haha. That’s our teacher for you. You assassins have no chance to beat him.” Lenn cheerfully said. His words inflicted doubt in the assassin’s judgment while the old soldiers could confirm an ally appeared.
.....
“My father Koss the Taskmaster would be proud to see his last student become this strong. Our teacher is unstoppable, haha.” Renn later added.
Previously, the old soldiers talked with the twins about Koss and Kass. However, their chat didn’t last long after one of the old soldiers spotted multiple black people running towards them.
The old soldiers rejoiced that the man giving dangerous vibes was on their side. The situation changed again, and it became a good one now.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtThe assassins realized the man who made their colleagues run for their lives wasn’t one to attack recklessly. One assassin raised his hand, and the others nodded.
The assassin rushed to attack Vincent while the others decided to flee. However, a pair of golden dots appeared, falling from the night sky. Blood gushed out like a fountain, and one of the fleeing assassins fell helplessly on the ground.
The pair of shining dots was Lupa’s Primal Insight’s predator-like eyes. The assassins froze for a second when Lupa stopped hiding her bloodlust.
“Fuck! Another monster!” One of the assassins exclaimed.
Lupa donned a pair of shining golden bloodshot eyes. Tears made out of blood slid on her cheeks from overusing Primal Insight to run faster than horses. Additionally, the blood of their colleague splattered on her white clothes. Lupa looked like a feral half-transformed werewolf.
Lupa was seeing red, and her eyesight was horrible. However, she used the enhanced senses to move unhindered.
Lupa moved and reacted faster than the eleven assassins. She swung her claws with accuracy and killed one assassin after another. No one could stop Lupa. Not the wind nor the gravity resistance.
Vincent grabbed the assassin charging at him by the neck, and watched Lupa make blood rain. “My cute little wolf girl is out for blood today.” He said to the assassin in a menacing tone.
[Too late... the assassin already killed himself with poison.]
Vincent stopped looking at the disturbing yet majestic sight and turned his gaze on the assassin. “Looks like you had a lot to hide.” He dropped the corpse uncaringly as if Vincent was used to death.
Vincent bolted towards Lupa and said, “Ambush.”
Lupa raised a smile and killed the eighth assassin. However, when Vincent’s presence put her worrying heart at rest, Primal Insight stopped working, and her senses returned to normal.
[Protect Lupa! She can’t fight anymore!]
“I know. No one will touch my girls!” Vincent summoned the last sword in his soul storage and threw it at the assassin closest to Lupa, killing him almost instantly.
The remaining two assassins turned around, but it was too late to dodge or counterattack. A pair of hands covered their sight, and their heads shortly slammed violently against the ground.
Vincent ran over to Lupa and caught her before she fell. He quickly checked her condition, but fortunately, it was a non-serious condition.
“Vincent! We arrived!” Loudly shouted Ester on a horse leading two other horses with a rope. Iris, Olive, and Lian didn’t know how to ride and lead a horse.
Vincent looked around, and he couldn’t see any more enemies. He closed his eyes and stopped using Overheat.
*One hour later*
Many things happened in one hour. First, a few dozens of soldiers and a Vice Captain arrived. They saw a sight that might happen once every decade or more.
It made the soldiers more surprised when they saw old battered soldiers in front of a noble’s property. There were old soldiers of different ages, and some even looked like they were about to retire.
The old soldiers were having their wounds treated by Iris and a pair of twins. To them was an unusual gray hobgoblin, but the twins and the old soldiers protected Iris. Ester checked on Iris from time to time as she had to hide Sakura from the new arrivals.
The soldiers were surprised the more they asked. Their eyes could see traces of a large fight or a small-scale war. Something big must have taken place in front of the noble property at first. But where are the corpses? They asked.
However, the answer soon welcomed their sight.
The soldiers were looking at the main course, but the cherry on top entered their sight when they moved their heads by a few degrees. A small portion of the long stone wall was broken by force, and a pile of assassin corpses covered the hole.
“What the hell happened here?”
“Did we miss a civil war?”
“I heard something big happened in the South high-class district, but this is not big... this is massive!”
The soldiers stopped for a few brief seconds. Then they approached the old soldiers and started doing their job to understand what exactly happened.
The soldiers took the details from everyone they could find outside. They soon understood the situation they stumbled upon.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmThe Vice-Captain sent a few messengers, and it didn’t take long for a few soldiers who previously followed Duke Biro Hawkins to arrive. They discussed something with the Vice Captain before they sent him and the soldiers away.
The friendly soldiers sponsored by the Hawkin, Gryphonheart, Graymoon, Reddawn, and Sunrise families protected the property in the old loyal soldier’s stead. A few also brought a cart and took the assassin’s corpses.
Leonis thanked the old soldiers for what they did. He even apologized after he hadn’t contacted them for ten years. However, the old soldiers stopped Leonis from apologizing and revealed how they had an idea it was to protect them from the strange things happening to the Lionheart family.
The old soldiers were sorry for trusting his ‘Everything is all okay’ with a smile. The old soldiers didn’t know the Lionheart family was suffering this much. They had the same thoughts as other people.
‘The Lionhearts are unlucky with their business lately.’ It was an implanted thought schemed by the Blackhearts.
Thus, the only soldiers remaining loyal to the Lionhearts were those present here. They were the only ones who wanted to repay the favor they couldn’t repay for ten years straight. Their loyalty knew no bounds.
Leonis asked for the final favor. It was to go to his mansion and tell the butler a code to give them five Nine-Headed Hydra Flowers from his garden and bring them here.
However, the old soldiers said it was nothing compared to how he saved them from a bad situation, and it wasn’t going to count as a favor. The old soldiers decided who would go before bowing respectfully and leaving.
The twins went home while the half-sisters stayed.
Eliara, Fliara, Maid Xu, and Sofy prepared three empty rooms to be used. One bedroom for the half-sisters and Sofy, one for the three little girls, Olive, and Lian and the last for Vincent and his girls.
Two other bedrooms were being used. In Lilith’s bedroom were Teresa, Leonis, and Lilith Lionheart. The old maid also wanted to stay in the bedroom.
Teresa Lionheart was on Lilith’s bed. Iris tried her best with the herbs she had at hand. Iris first tended Teresa’s condition, but her lost blood and exhaustion were her current afflictions.
The old maid was another story. She lost a lot of blood. Iris gave her a few herbs that could relieve the pain and ordered her to eat something before she fainted.
However, she hardheadedly wanted to remain with her lady and took out a small beef jerky to chew on. No one could move her out of the room without force. She even refused Leonis’s order. Her loyalty to Teresa knew no bounds.
Iris later went to Viscount Demel Blackheart’s bedroom. Lupa was sleeping on the softest bed she ever felt and slept with a smile.
Iris opened the deep sleeping Lupa’s eyes. She lifted a concoction of water-diluted pain relief made for the maid and dropped a few droplets on her eyes. Iris hoped it could be enough to help.
Ester, Sakura, Plow, the three little girls, and the two little demigoblin kids were waiting in the smaller guest hall. The kids were playing with Plow while Ester and Sakura chatted.
On the other hand, Vincent spent an hour storing what he used in the two fights and anything the soldiers or assassins left on the ground.
