"Damn! | thought you were dead!" Adler yelled, feeling a jolt of panic until Jenna smacked him on the back of the
head. "Dead? Look again! She's not dead!" she chided. "Not dead?" Adler pointed at Sophie's face. "Sophie,
what's up with your face?"
Sophie wiped her face with the sleeve of her white dress, and the greenish-gray makeup that had been covering
her face started to coff. "It's just makeup," she explained.
"You scared the life out of me! | really thought you were..." Adler stopped himself from finishing the sentence.
Odie, seeing Sophie like this, initially had a grin forming on his face, but it quickly vanished. He gave Sophie a
gentle smack on the forehead and said, "Not dead and yet you couldn't wake up earlier? Did you need everyone
to mourn you first?" Sophie nearly stumbled back into the coffin from Odie's playful slap. She replied, "Joseph's
people are probably outside. If they find out I'm alive, James could be in danger."

Jenna was puzzled. "James? What's James got to do with all this?"
"Let's discuss it later. | need to wash my face first." Sophie said, as Elodie and Jenna helped her out of the coffin.
She glanced around and asked, "Where's Colby?"
"Out cold," Griffin chimed in. "I only used about eighty percent of my strength; he might have a tough time
waking up today."
"Ask your dear husband. He stormed into the Burke estate, got into a shootout for over ten minutes, and nearly
didn't make it out alive." As he spoke, Odie tossed a blood-stained ring into Sophie's hands.
Sophie frowned. "Why'd you hit him?"
Seeing the ring, Sophie immediately pieced everything together. Joseph must've used the ring to provoke Colby.
"I'll go check on him," she said, rushing upstairs without even stopping for shoes.
Odie thought about calling after her, but seeing her stumbling up the stairs, he held back his words of concern.

When Sophie opened the door, she found Colby lying on the bed. Approaching him, she couldn't help but smile
at his unconscious form. Such a fool.
Looking at the ring in her hand, Sophie recalled the events of the previous night. Just a day ago, at the Burke
estate-thunder crashed and the storm raged outside.
"I'm sorry, just can't do it," James said as he approached Sophie. "Colby's already gathering his men for you. |

James raised the knife in his hand, the blade passing close to Sophie but stabbing into the bed next to her.
Sophie didn't flinch. James frowned, "Why didn't you dodge?"

Sophie looked at James, "I know you remember your past life."
"So, | owe you my life," James said flatly. "I'm giving it back to you now. From here on, we owe each other
nothing."
With that, James pulled out the knife
