Zane's voice was deep and magnetic. After speaking, he turned and headed towards the door, a slight smile
playing at his lips.
Elysia was still sitting on the counter, staring after him in a daze. He had just said not to rush, that he would
slowly ask her for something later.
She had no idea what he wanted, but just hearing his words gave her an unusual feeling. She thought, ‘Oh well,
when that day comes, I'll naturally find out what he wants.
Having figured it out, Elysia propped her hands on the counter and leaned forward, about to jump down when
she paused, suddenly remembering something.
She thought, Who exactly putup here in the first place?’ Her mind conjured up an image of Zane’s
handsface, still smiling.
She pursed her lips, internally grumbling, ‘He putup here and just left? He should at least putback down
the way he liftedup.”
When she stepped out of the kitchen, Zane was sprawled on the sofa, a book in one hand, legs crossed languidly.
He exuded a kind of scholarly rogue charm that Elysia hadn't seen before. She leaned against the doorway,
carefully examining his striking profile.
Suddenly, Zane spoke up, “Enjoying the view?”
“Not enough,” Elysia blurted out instinctively. The moment the words left her mouth, she felt a tinge of regret.
“No, | mean...”
Zane glanced up at her with a smile. “If it's not enough, why not ccloser and take a longer look?”
Elysia had a strong suspicion that he was teasing her. Her cheeks flushed red, and she pouted, walking over to
him huffily. She said, “As if! Someone lefton the kitchen counter and didn’t bother to bringdown. And
here you are hiding and reading a book.”
She said this as she plopped herself onto the sofa, arms crossed and still looking obviously annoyed.

puffed-up
cheeks.
When she didn’t respond, he leaned in closer to Elysia, his voice dropping to a low murmur. “How about we go
back and rehearse it?”
They were so close now that Elysia could catch a faint whiff of the minty scent from him, her heart beating faster
and faster. She pushed him away, flustered. “Who wants to rehearse with you?”
“You,” Zane replied smoothly.
Her heart gave a tremble. She thought, ‘Zane, you rascal; how can you still have the mood to banter at a time
like this?’ She stood up, intent on escaping this flirtatious situation.
But no sooner had she risen than Zane caught her wrist. “Where are you going?”
“Home,” Elysia replied.
“I'll take you.” Zane stood up as well, but she ignored him and headed straight for the door. The evening breeze
cooled her flushed face, calming her racing heart.

She walked to the Maybach, opened the back door, and was about to get in when Zane’s voice called out. “Sit in
the front.”
“No way,” she retorted, climbing into the back seat. As she reached to shut the door, Zane’s hand blocked it. She
couldn't pull it closed and eventually crossed her arms over her chest, staring ahead defiantly.
Zane asked again, “You really don’t want to?”
“Nope,” Elysia answered stubbornly. She expected that Zane would give up, but instead, in the next instant, he
lifted her out of the car.
She glared at him, trying to break free with her movements, but Zane’s grip didn’t loosen in the slightest.
He opened the passenger door and placed her inside. Leaning in close with a captivating smile, he murmured in
a low, enticing voice, “Only you can sit in my co-pilot scat.”
After saying that, he closed the door, walked around to the driver's side, and got in. Glancing at Elysia with her
flushed face, Zane’s lips curved into a soft smile. He thought, ‘Elysia gets embarrassed so easily!
Zane leaned in closer, making Elysia freeze on the spot. “W-What are you trying to do?” she stammered.
Seeing her all tense and flustered, Zane couldn’t help but tease her a bit more. He moved in even closer. “What
do you think?”
Their eyes locked, and they could practically feel each other’s breath. Elysia’s heart raced. Then, Zane raised his
hand and pulled the seatbelt from behind her.
“What did you think | was going to do? Elysia, what goes on in that little head of yours?” he chuckled as he
buckled her in. Elysia stared straight ahead, feeling utterly embarrassed. That had been so mortifying.
Zane then said, “Elysia, you're moving in tomorrow. No more running back and forth.”
She froze, thinking, Tomorrow? Does that mean we'll be seeing each other every day?‘ She shook her head. ‘No
way, once | find a new place, I'm moving out. Then | won't have to deal with this troublemaker anymore.”*
“What are you thinking about?” Zane asked, noticing her shaking her head.
She replied, “Zane, once | find a new place, I'm moving out.”
“A house is only comfortable if you really like it. Take your time, no rush.” He paused before adding softly,
“Actually, I'd prefer if you stayed for good.”
Elysia didn’t respond. She thought, ‘How am | supposed to answer this? Agreeing or outright rejecting both seem
wrong. As the car drove through the bustling streets, neither of them spoke, and a comfortable silence settled
between them.
Meanwhile, at Arcanum House. Moonlight spilled into the yard, blending with the dim lights. Phoebe sat on the
steps, staring at the tree in the yard.
She wondered, ‘When will Elysia cback?‘ She missed Elysia a lot and wanted to see her.
But more than that, she was bored out of her mind. Thinking about the woman locked in the storage room, her
eyes lit up with an idea. She thought, ‘Maybe | should drag her out for a fight to kill stime?”
Thinking that her idea was pretty good, Phoebe got up and walked towards the storage room. When Zoe saw her,
her head away, clearly not wanting to engage.

“What are you doing?” Zoe asked, surprised.
“I'm really bored right now. Coutside and let's have a fight,” Phoebe replied.
Zoe frowned, “Are you trying to getkilled?”
Phoebe was puzzled. “What do you mean? | just want a fight, not to kill you.”
Zoe's face fell dark. She remembered Elysia’s words and the pill she was given that would cause her to bleed out
from her orifices if she exerted herself too much or used any force.
Seeing Zoe's silence, Phoebe pouted, “Lame. Are you afraid you'll lose to me?
“I don’t pick on the weak. | don’t want people saying | win unfairly. Never mind, let's not fight. Just cout and

a,
Zoe's eyes widened a bit, puzzled at Phoebe’s sudden change. She wondered, ‘Talk with her?”
Without waiting for a response, Phoebe walked out and sat on the steps by the storage room door.
Turning her head to check behind her, she saw that Zoe hadn't followed. Phoebe didn’t get upset and started
talking on her own, “Zoe, do you have any family?”
