Chapter 912

Going back to her family's hwas out of the question. Lena would rather move her luggage back to Aaron's

place and stay with him.

Though Mrs. Lane could pressure her, she couldn't do the swith Aaron. In the end, she had no choice but to

relent, though her frustration was evident, Grinding her teeth, she snapped, "You're both so stubborn!"

As she left the room, Mrs. Lane gave Lena a pointed glare, clearly displeased that she hadn't sided with her or

tried to convince Aaron otherwise.

"Lena," Mrs. Lane said sternly, "from today until your little uncle fully recovers, you're responsible for taking care

of him. This includes changing his bandages, accompanying him to check-ups, and handling all of his daily

needs-everything from meals to mobility." Mrs. Lane's commanding tone reminded Lena of why she'd often

likened her mother to a tyrant. At least to her, Mrs. Lane had always been domineering and overbearing.

Lena had clashed with her mother many times over the years, particularly during her rebellious teenage phase.

Their fights were so intense that, at her lowest point, Lena had almost done something drastic just to make Mrs.

Lane regret it. It was Aaron who had pulled her back from the brink-he had saved her life, literally.

"Alright, | get it, Ms. Ace," Lena replied with exaggerated obedience, her tone dripping with sarcasm. "I promise

to give my utmost care and attention to my esteemed uncle, twenty-four-seven.'

"Don't givethat attitude," Mrs. Lane scolded. "If anything happens to him again, how will your conscience

handle it?"

From her words, one might think Aaron's injury had been Lena's fault. Knowing there was no reasoning with her

mother, Lena simply nodded and remained silent.

Even so, as Mrs. Lane left, she made sure to issue one last warning. "Don't think you can slack off. I'll be making

surprise visits to check on you."

After seeing her mother out, Lena slumped against the door, staring at the ceiling. The sheer exhaustion made

her feel like she was suffocating. She began to wonder once again if she was truly her mother's biological child.

Maybe | should get sof her hair and do a DNA test someday.

"What are you thinking about?" Aaron asked, walking over.

His arm was injured, but his legs were perfectly fine. Lena couldn't help but feel grateful that his injury wasn't

worse. If he couldn't walk, she'd have to take care of him around the clock.

"I'm wondering if | should get a DNA test with your sister. I'm starting to think I'm not her

biological child," Lena said. Then she paused before adding silently in her heart, If anyone needs a test, it's

probably you and Mrs. Lane. The way she dotes on you, it's like she's caring for a son, not a younger brother.

The thought made her chuckle internally.

"What nonsense are you thinking?" Aaron asked, trying to comfort her. "Your mom has always been like this. She

just cares abouta bit too much."

Lena let out a scoff. "Sure, because in her eyes, I'm nothing compared to you."

Her self-deprecating tone made Aaron feel a pang of guilt. He knew her frustration stemmed from how much

Mrs. Lane doted on him.

"I'm thirsty. Can you geta glass of water?" Aaron said, attempting to change the subject.

Lena nodded and went to fetch water for him. As she handed it over, she realized he hadn't eaten anything. She

decided to cook snoodles for him. Though the result wasn't as refined as the meal Aaron had prepared for

her the night before, it was still edible. "I'm not much of a cook, so you'll have to make do with this."

"As long as there's food, I'm happy. Besides, it's not bad," Aaron replied, his words making Lena laugh.

What kind of compliment is that?

"You should go upstairs and rest for a while. There's nothing to worry about here," Aaron said casually. He'd gone

upstairs earlier and noticed that all of Lena's belongings had been taken back to her family's home.

Lena sighed. Resting upstairs wasn't an option-her things were no longer here. She hesitated, then made a call

to Keira.

"Can you doa favor?" Lena asked over the phone. "Go to my place and bring the suitcase near the living

room to Aaron's place.

"What's going on?" Keira asked, intrigued.

Lena explained the situation and sighed. "I left secretly last night, so | can't just go and grab it myself. When you

bring it over, just say | had left it at your place before."

She even had a cover story ready.

"Alright," Keira replied, amused. "You know, fate seems determined to tie you and Aaron together."

"Shut up," Lena muttered, her tone half-annoyed, half-embarrassed.
