First Love 121

Chapter 121

+25 BORRUS

Angela was surprised when she saw how distressed Fiona looked on the video call. After all, the latter had

worked in the PR department for many years and had seen her fair share of crises. Angela wondered what could

be causing such turmoil.

“Don't mind her,” Dexter interjected in a deep tone. "It's just a minor issue that will resolve on its own soon

enough. They're making a big deal out of nothing."

But Angela couldn't help feeling helpless, especially after seeing how calm Dexter was acting.

“She must really be desperate if she's begging you to cback. Maybe it's something only you can handle.

Besides, you don't have much to do here anyways, so why not put everyone's mind at ease by going back?"

As soon as she finished speaking, Dexter lifted his head slowly to meet her gaze. His eyes were like the bottom

of the ocean-dark, mysterious, and intimidating.

"Do you wantto leave that badly?” His question caught her off guard.

Angela reached for a cherry on the coffee table, ready to eat it. But when she heard him, she froze. His

statement implied there was ssort of unspoken connection between them. She avoided his penetrating gaze

and instead grabbed two or three cherries before sitting on the couch. As she ate, she spoke up, "I have no

control over where you decide to go."

Dexter left later that night. He'd initially planned on taking his bodyguard, Rocky Cobb, back with him. However,

after considering it, he ultimately had Rocky stay behind to look after Angela.

"Mrs. Bamford, didn't you notice that Mr. Bamford's behavior has been rather peculiar in the past few days?"

Rocky felt frustrated that she didn't seem to understand the situation. When Dexter left, Angela didn't even offer

to see him off.

Angela smiled. “Thank you for gettingthese fruits, Mr. Cobb. | enjoy them very much." She held up a peach

in her hands. “Dexter is an important man, and I'm sure every move he makes has a deeper meaning, but that

doesn't concern me."

Rocky was taken aback. He tried to analyze Angela's smile but couldn't find anything amiss from her expression.

The next day, the competition went smoothly for everyone now that they had let go of their mental burdens.

They all agreed to have a celebratory gathering that night.

Inside the private club, everyone had warm, flushed complexions. "Cheers!"

They knew their results were already decided. It was just a matter of receiving their awards and returning home

victorious.

"We're now internationally recognized award winners! Once we get back, I'm going to show off to everyone in

division two."

"Absolutely! They used to look down on us, but now we're the most distinguished group here. Even if they'd

chere, they wouldn't have won anything.”

“Angela, did Mr. Snowden mention he would treat us to a meal once we return? | think I've been gaining weight

recently."

Many voices reached Angela's ears as everyone talked over one another, but she remained silent and buried her

head in her drink.

Memories from a few months ago flooded back to her. She'd been faced with the toughest decision of her life

and had been unsure if taking that step would lead her into darkness or toward a new beginning.

But thankfully, the universe hadn't abandoned her; she'd been able to rediscover the joys of life again.

As they made their way down the congested street, vehicles jostled for space until they finally arrived at their

hotel, exhausted and leaning on each other for support in the cramped car.

"Aren't we already at the hotel? Why are we moving again?" Alan asked, noticing something was amiss. He

glanced at his watch and saw that it was already 10:30 pm.

The driver seemed determined to navigate through the endless darkness in the seven-

seater van.

“Stop!” Alan yelled. “Where are you taking us?”
