Little Tyrant Doesn't Want to Meet with a Bad End

An underground passageway lit by buzzing mana lights was guarded by two rows of soldiers who were armed to the teeth. They vigilantly scanned their surroundings, keeping an eye out for potential enemies.
A heavily-protected carriage carrying a elegantly-dressed black-haired man was currently traveling through this underground passageway.
It was out of safety concerns that Roel was not traveling on the surface but through this underground passageway, which was a direct path from the Moonsoul Tower to the distant mountain valley. What particularly stood out was how his entourage was many times bigger than before despite his powers having been restored.
As much as he valued his safety, this was over the top!
However, he couldn’t speak against it since he knew where they were coming from. The last time he came close to death, the Mother Goddess went on a rampage and nearly destroyed the Moonsoul Tower, an artifact that had existed since Sia’s era. That incident told everyone just how important Roel was to the Mother Goddess.
Should anything happen to him, the consequences would be dire.
This realization prompted the races that resided in the Moonsoul Tower to action. Even Origin Level 1 Race Sovereigns had swallowed their pride to serve as his guards. This was the first time that Roel had enjoyed such privileged treatment.
However, Roel didn’t let it bother him. He was too curious about the Six Calamities, especially the last one, whom he had yet to meet.
Glacier Creator. Sire Darkness. Tempest Caller. Shrouding Fog. Flooding Death. Light Devourer.
These were the names that the ancient civilizations had come up with for the Six Calamities, and to this day, he had met five of them.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtLight Devourer was the only Calamity whom he hadn’t met before, and the one whom he was the most curious about. Thus, he decided to ask Adola about it.
“A God’s Envoy that resembles light? Ah! You must be talking about Lord Aurora. It had been outside the Moonsoul Tower just recently.”
“Outside the Moonsoul Tower?”
Roel was perplexed upon hearing Adola’s words. He had been so idle that he frequented the sky garden and often spent his time looking at the scenery outside the window, but not once did he spot anything that looked like it could be Light Devourer.
A frown formed on his face.
“Lord Roel, Lord Aurora has indeed been outside the Moonsoul Tower, but it is not an existence that most people are able to see,” Adola patiently explained.
Roel spent a moment in thought before finally widening his eyes in realization.
“It is invisible? Ah, I see!”
The name, Light Devourer, suggested that the Calamity’s authority was related to light, and human sight happened to work through the transmission of light. In light of this, it shouldn’t be too hard for Light Devourer to erase itself from the sight of others.
He asked Adola about the details of Light Devourer’s ability, but she wasn’t sure about the details. It turned out that only the chief of the High Elves, Micher, and a few others were privy to that information. He wasn’t too disappointed, since he knew that he could directly ask the Mother Goddess about it.
After several hours of travel, they finally arrived at the mountain valley where Shrouding Fog resided.
The visibility in the mountain valley was low, as night had already fallen.
Adola led Roel farther into the mountain range till they arrived before a well-hidden, enormous cavern. They ventured into the dark cavern, and it didn’t take them long to stumble upon a huge fissure with a stone bridge constructed over it.
Adola and a few other high elves led Roel onto the stone bridge, where he looked down and saw fog lingering inside the fissure. However, the fog seemed to lack activity in comparison to the Shrouding Fog he had previously met.
“Is the fog unconscious?”
“Yes, Lord Silver Fog is currently still in slumber. In accordance with the Mother Goddess’ order, we have yet to awaken it,” one of the high elves answered with a formal bow.
Roel responded with a nod.
He figured that the Six Calamities were kept in a dormant state in order to prevent the Savior from discovering their location. This could be seen from the decision to hide Shrouding Fog in this dark cavern. The Mother Goddess was likely reserving them for a decisive moment in the war.
“How do you awaken the God’s Envoys? Is the process dangerous for you?”
“The authority to awaken the God’s Envoys lies with the divine scepter in the Moonsoul Tower. The six God’s Envoys are stationed at different places to avoid enemy detection, and some of these places are inaccessible to us. We are reliant on the scepter to awaken them.”
“I see.” Roel nodded.
Roel glanced at the boundless abyss beneath him before closing his eyes and focusing on the Crown’s Stones inside of him. Moments later, he heaved a sigh.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏm“I guess that’s only to be expected…”
“Lord Roel?”
“No, it’s nothing.”
It was impossible to obtain the Crown’s Stones without defeating the Six Calamities, but Roel couldn’t resist trying to absorb it when he saw that Shrouding Fog was in a dormant state. Unfortunately, the outcome wasn’t positive.
It was hard not to feel moved when he knew that there was a potentially powerful spell waiting just under his feet. To quell his selfish desires, he could only propose leaving promptly.
Thus, he and his huge entourage set off once more to return to the Moonsoul Tower.
…
After witnessing the biggest trump card of the Mother Goddess’ faction, Roel decided to take a look at the scepter mentioned by the high elves upon returning to the Moonsoul Tower.
The scepter held the power to awaken the dormant Six Calamities at once, thus it was regarded as one of the most confidential artifacts in the Moonsoul Tower. It was located in the High Elves’ quarters and was tightly guarded around the clock.
Of course, this didn’t pose an issue to Roel, as he was granted absolute freedom in the Moonsoul Tower. Micher had no choice but to bring Roel to it despite his utmost reluctance.
An ethereal scepter that looked as if it was manifested out of moonlight was placed above a beautiful six-colored pedestal. It looked like an exquisite piece of art.
Roel was awed.
Before he could utter a word of compliment for the scepter, a familiar yet foreign voice echoed in his ears.
“You have done well. We’ll begin two days from now.”
